Last november I decided to capture this idea I had since last year wandering through my mind and soul. These are some of the pics I took. Since I found out about biomimicry everything changed...

Oak, the #Natural Art of magic trees. Did you know oak trees were sacred? Maybe you did know they were protected by Zeus/Jupiter/Tinia once when you studied it or read a book explaining #Greeks mythologies. But were you aware about a special product hidden under the leaves hanging as fruits from their branches? When I pruned a couple of branches last winter I found out how compact and heavy these trees are but I was really surprised today to witness what it really looks #Art beyond the beauty already represented by #Nature daily. To describe this magic sticky purple-red artifact that transform from green to red exploding like popcorns into what seems really #Natural Art it isn t easy to find the words. In the big picture I took I dared to recognize a #Venice carnival mask, with its long "nose". It reminds me of a pomegranate I saw in autumn left with dry fruit hanging some years ago. The tree looked just like a Christmas one without pine leaves, but still decorated with round balls as we use to do in modern times, in December... Well, it seems many things, feelings and traditions,we think to be commercial, have come from our observation of Nature. Actually even religion, coming from Politheism has taken a lot from Nature as ignored for a long time, and this magic spell from the oak seems to me having influenced others in other times ... it's just a trait a color I can't distinguish precisely for the moment. Purple-red popcorns over an oak tree? Has this happened because it was a very hot and dry summer (+42 celsius/107 and more farenheit) or because it rained after a long dry 3 months period or this happens always? Or is this just a mad oak?! I will never forget about it. I believe we shall all be aware of this beauty (nature hides inside the treasure chest of #patience as it has a strong attractive power to generate #Wonder and #NewMythology between us and who will come after.

Make your discovery everyday - It has been a dry summer in Mediterranean north Emisphere. Most plants managed to survive these months quite well even if without water their yield have been, naturally and consequentially reduced. While walking in the wild I have found this plant offering fruits to various insects (pollinators) as big and small butterflies, various flies and bees. The scabiosa, scabiosa "columbaria" for its colour, or "dove pincushion" (english for latin columba, italian colomba) as it sticks to the materials with which we dress until beginning of XXI century. There are 11 genera and 290 species (source seedaholic.com) as indeed plants change as they grow on different kinds of soils. Scabious or scabiosa flowers get this title from scabēre, latin for to scratch as this plant was used to treat wounds, snaked bites, and also the sores caused by the Bubonic Plague. ("The root was officially prescribed during 17 century by Nicholas Culpepper as an ointment" in these situations; source seedaholic.com) Exploring #Nature everyday is an amazing opportunity we have as in this journey we might make encounters of anykind and understand the journey in many ways as with a research made later as I did, continues ... The flower is originally of Mediterranean areas, Western Asia and North Africa. Regarding my Scabiosa it was growing naturally, maybe brought from some bird from the coast(?) and on clayish soil. How to recognize if the squirrel loves your trees? Check if you see in the “low grip” areas of the trunk, the sign of the claws, a triple one. You will learn the squirrel was there.

It was last winter when I wrote a post. But as the time passed I was really tired to play Tom Sawyer part here. So between staring in awe at the effect on my garden of good rains, sun, and fertilization with humus from the personal compost box, and doing so much stuff off this field, I have been also testing new seeds, and again, it was so much fun. I have collected many shots of these adventures and harvested many seeds to be planted or ate during these days. (dry fruit is one of the greatest vitamins choice for our daily intake). Pics will never give the same feeling of doing this for real, of touching different shapes, of feeling the sound of insects or the sun caressing the skin, or the struggles with Nature hopefully too little to be remembered, but here you are some pics I hope you will enjoy and taste slowly breathing in all the shades they have to offer, just take for example, this sun flower in exam. Look at all the shades of yellow it offers, you will surely see something I can’t see and I’d love to know what it is if you can explain, whatever it is. Have you ever planted a sunflower seed? Maybe all these seeds are the offspring of a star like our Sun, and they can’t lie in the ground forever, so they raise toward the sky looking for their father rays of light. Sun flower indeed turns toward the Stars looking for an eye contact with their parents. In all this chaos of Love insects of any kind, bees especially, “refill with kisses” so more seeds more love can shine tomorrow.   See you soon again.

I've been to a local market a couple days ago, a market taking place once a week. My curiosity stop me and I ended up buying something I did not plan to, in a place I did not know. The farmer at the stand gave me its flyer which on the back side had a quote from something called "the mad farmer manifesto". (Many people already know about it I guess) Today after a quick search I found out this guy is Wendell Berry and the poem is part of a bigger one. The portion translated in italian in the photo goes like this: "(...) Give your approval to all you cannot understand. Praise ignorance, for what man has not encountered (in italian this is translated differently with "understood" which is much better) he has not destroyed. Ask the questions that have no answers. Invest in the millennium. Plant sequoias. Say that your main crop is the forest that you did not plant, that you will not live to harvest. (...) Put your faith in the two inches of humus that will build under the trees every thousand years (...)". Well, I feel just like a mad farmer then, but since years, and I never knew him. At the same time I don't really feel this way of thinking as mad at all. Living it naturally by observing, asking questions, being curious, planting and growing plants, waiting for a good moon or sun bathing everyday I can... This is the book of wonders we shall explore and be capable to live with, at least as long, you reader, ...as long you wanna be called human. Elders can listen to crickets through our ears and mouth while clouds play between my eyes & the stars, I wish you were here with me, my friends. Bats own the night by speed: a natural need, a silent dance of the infinite opportunities.

I will get back soon with plenty of experiences Nature has gifted us during last months.

Time to spread our creativity. Tomorrow is an important day! Bees, just a few, the ones that have the special assignment to write on a list of paper which flowers are open and which one have the best pollen, bringing these info back to the nest ... or keeping that for themselves (lazy italian honey bees!) ..., have started flying around. I am going to plant "my" seeds! I have instead started digging the garden beds and choosing position of the plants. The fighter pilots flying above, in these days so much on alert, must have been thinking, this guy is planting IED... nah, I'm here to spread love and life which means no bombs. No, i am not on drugs. No need for that. But in life everyone has his/her own pusher. Mine is Seedaholic and myself (since i learnt how to collect seeds or grow for example planta from branches ...). This company from Ireland has a wonderful website online; when they ship you see how much care they take in what they do. You should check it out. They even have barley ... it seems bees love its flowers. It's gonna be on another "experiment" next year, I guess. So tomorrow dear people and bees, yes because since I am going to plant some succulent flowers plants out there, they might be reading this blog too: it will be a good day, tomorrow. Bees, people, birds, all of us, it's time to start believing in future. Take this risk: it's really human. Unless one of those fighter jets doesn't decide having fun in the garden is suspiciously too human. Peace. Stay human my friends.
