mdzs canon divergence au where when the jins start spreading rumors about wei wuxian after the sunshot campaign to make people scared of him and pressure him to hand them the amulet, nie huaisang starts spreading even more rumors in response but they're all stupid stuff, so interactions between cultivators and non-cultivators become stuff like:

random cultivator: wei wuxian is a heretic who uses demonic cultivation to eat little children!

non-cultivator: you mean the guy who tried to pretend flirt with an old lady so she would give him a discount but immediately folded once he realized the second lan jade was upset about it? the guy who can't stop annoying his own sect leader on purpose and then complains when he's given more work? the guy who starts pretending to be a three-year-old every time his shijie is around? the guy who jumped into a river to escape a dog smaller than my hand? that guy?

I have seen a few fics where Shen Jiu!Shen Qingqiu gets pollened into having kitty ears which gets him thoroughly embarrassed for a bit but I have yet to see one where it gets him straight up exposed

So he gets pollened and the other perk lord expect something like this:

Meanwhile Shen Qingqiu actually:

Shen Qingqiu still keeps up his usual act, which has the other perk lords quite confused. Sick? Ok. He got pollened. But wdym scared? Scared of what?? And all the time???

Meanwhile Shen Qingqiu has no idea his new body parts are betraying him like that. His mask is perfect after all, nothing has changed. Except the damn ears refuse to participate in the performance.

The only moment in any of the MDZS canons when we get a mention of what Nie Mingjue was like pre-sect leadership and sabercurse is in Fatal Journey of all places, where Nie Huaisang comments that Nie Mingjue turned moody and angry while he never used to be before. And we see Nie Mingjue and Nie Huaisang playing together. And they look happy. And this seems fundamental to a reading of Nie Mingjue and the Nie brothers and yet it’s only in a movie which can barely be considered canon even for CQL. In other places we just do not know what Nie Mingjue was like and therefore we do not know what Nie Huaisang (and Lan Xichen) has in his mind about him.

So the thing is, over a year ago I was part of the SVSSS Big Bang, for which I had the absolute pleasure to work with @willowwispflame and skirm-the-terrible (check out their artwork for the same fic!! It's GORGEOUS). And then, me being me, I went "ok it's posted on AO3, we are all done", and completely forgot to post it on here.
