Pls talk about how people mischaracterize tobio in the fandom cause I agree 100% and would like to hear your thoughts
very evil of you to make me talk abt my hyperfixations... hq manga spoilers ahead because I'm super deeply annoying
well to put it short, the fandom is filled with ableists and also a bunch of weirdos :P
gonna shot something down first, "coding" is no where similar as a "headcanon". coding goes hand to hand with canon. that being said, tobio is autistic coded, he has all the traits, you can say they're autistic canonically.
what does that have to do with the fandom and their interpretations, mĂĄx? you'd ask and well... the fandom goes out of its way to either completely erase that from existence and build a different personality for him, go into harrassment sprees towards people who point out said coding or directing hate on him for those traits.
tobio is a caring, selfless character. tobio since moment 0 has been the one to carefully lead hinata into becoming his stronger one, because he knew hinata was the one they were spoken about by their beloved one (his grandfather).
tobio was scarred by the death of that figure who taught him and looked after him so much, later on what happened on that match in middle school just boosted said trauma... they are a complete beautifully written character and he's showcased to be as any human... he's responsive to said trauma which leads to his breakdown before his recrowning...
oh the tobio recrowning...
tobio is nice, caring, realistic and easy to approach and love. what does the fandom do about that? not give two flying shits and make him a cold asshole that has never felt a single thing... and you know? there's a lot there abt how people percieve autistic people too...
also the fact that a lot of people hate him because he's traumatized and they respond to that like an actual traumatized person would like if you hate tobio you should actively seek therapy
and please don't get me started on how people "like" tobio only because he's part of a "ship" because I will commit an atrocity
I'll admit I would love Kagehina to become canon.
As it stands, though, I completely agree with you and personally find the friendship between Tobio and Shoyo, and the team as a whole, to be a fantastic example if character development. It's clear to me that Tobio has issues, though I hadn't identified them as autism. It's also clear he's consciously working to overcome his flaws and be a better player, person and friend.
In short, (sorry, Shoyo) Tobio is adorable.
