all violence against all women everywhere is deplorable to the very essence of life. some have found ways to alchemize the pain that comes from it and i hope one day more will do the same because it will take all of us to eliminate the patriarchy and everything that is derived from it.

i'm inclined to think that the reason black american women are straight forward when dating men relates to the amount of physical and sexual degradation we have overcome for centuries. our pain has become a steppingstone for our confidence and because of that, i think we have demolished the threshold of patriarchal standards that places women under docile, meek, and "respectable" guidelines. since we've been through every degradation possible, it only makes sense for us to rise from the pain and now choose our own destiny and make confident choices about who we choose to have in our world.

we keep creating our own freedom even though we have been in captivity (slavery wise, society wise, mental and physical). a lot of us have broken out from under the spell that says there is only one way to be feminine, that says we need to wait for a man to give us freedom, and that says we must be on our best behavior so that a man can choose us.
