“I work too much. I have no life. And the one thing that’s come out of that? Is that the people that I love the most…they’re the ones that I work with.”

Evan Cross, is a wealthy visionary inventor who lives in Vancouver, and, is the founder and CEO of Cross Photonics alongside his old friend and partner, Angelika Finch after four attempts at starting their own business. Meeting Brooke a short time after this, the two later got married living a fairly happy life together until on September 15, 2006, when Evan and Brooke were returning home from a vacation on an island, Evan decided to drive through and check out an industrial district on the way home. There, Evan's cellphone picked up magnetic interference from within a restricted facility, and he and Brooke then investigated despite Brooke's reluctance. The two broke into the building, and found an Anomaly there.

An Albertosaurus then attacked the two and killed Brooke despite Evan's attempts to save her. The Albertosaurus next attacked Evan, but he was saved and pulled out of the creature's way by Mac Rendell. After forcing the Albertosaurus back through the Anomaly, Mac told Evan that the Anomaly was a portal to his home and begged Evan to send him back through; but the Anomaly then closed before Evan could drag Mac through, and Mac died in Evan's arms of his injuries.

Evan subsequently covered Brooke's death up, buying the facility and kept Mac's body frozen within the facility. When Evan went to London to explain Mac's death to his family, he met Mac's 19-year-old self and realized that the Mac that had saved him was from the Future. Evan then recruited the young Mac as a Cross Photonics security guard in Vancouver (so as to negate Mac's death from the latter's personal timeline, as a form of repentance for saving Evan from the Albertosaurus), and never told Mac of the former's encounter with Mac's alternate future self. Spending the next six years hunting and trying to study the Anomalies along with his old friend Tony Drake which led him to meeting Dylan Weir whom he would later hire as a Predatory Control expert for his anomaly research team. Dylan being instinct verse Evan’s hyper-intellectualism.

After Evan and Dylan traveled into the anomaly and their timeline altered, Evan now found himself in a radically altered world, finding a new rival company, and, where his 'team' has the support of the A.R.C., working with them given his company being the main private investor in the A.R.C. operations. Forced to quickly adjust to the new dynamics of this timeline, the only other one whom remembers the way it was supposed to be, is Dylan Weir. It can be noted that while he seems to have developed a healthy friendship with A.R.C. staff, especially Connor Temple, he has been known to butt heads with certain A.R.C. team leaders. Evan is also highly protective of his team.

Jessica Parker, better known as Jess, is the youngest member of Canada’s Anomaly Research Centre headed by Officer Ken Leeds (formerly James Lester before his election as Prime Minister), having been born in 1991. Pretty, lively, funny, madly self-absorbed, flighty at times, and with an extremely large collection of brightly colored shoes and outfits, she is not as daft as first appearances might infer. She is the field coordinator for all A.R.C. teams and displays an outstanding level of organization and efficiency, providing a stable environment for missions. She is fiercely professional and likes to hide her skills under a light-hearted facade though, when chaos reigns she proves plucky, resourceful, and utterly unflappable in the face of danger; an example of which shown when she defused a bomb under Captain Becker's instruction, refusing to leave his side and thus risking her own. It can also be noted that Jess is good friends with Cross Photonic's Toby Nance whom conveniently is also her flat mate, their similar interests being what brought them together and their differences balancing out their friendship. Over the last year, a budding romantic interest had begun to blossom between Jess and Captain Becker leading to the beginnings of a possible relationship.

"I've been really struggling with this work, because it isn't like predator control. It isn't mostly harmless animals with the occasional killer. These creatures are almost all killers. But today we finally had one that wasn't, and all we had to do was show it a way home, and we did that. We did it.. I used to coil razor wire back home. We had wolves that would come down out of the forest and try to eat our sleep. My Dad said we had to keep them out, but every month or so I would come out and I would fi- They would get tangled in the wire sometimes. They'd chew their own paws off. That's when I really got it you know, it isn't their fault. They're just being who they are. We're the problem, we're the ones that want everything to be human. Now we've covered the whole damn world in razor wire, so where are the animals supposed to go? But today, you came up with a way to help them, to get them back to a time with no humans in it."

Dylan Weir, a confident, athletic, and adventurous woman, grew up on a Canadian farm with her older sister and parents, her coiling perimeters of razor wire, to keep wolves that came out of the nearby forests from eating the Weirs' sheep. However, occasionally Dylan would find some of the wolves  tangled in the razor wire and be forced to chew their own body parts off. Seeing this in turn led Dylan to believe in later years that Humans are the real problem and that what animals do is not their fault. Later during Dylan's early life, she began fighting forest fires near Fort McMurray, and worked most of her life to join Predator Control. As a Predator Control officer, Dylan was tasked with handling wild animals which would stray into Vancouver, and became close to fellow officer Tony Drake and police detective Harlow.

However, nothing could have prepared her for dealing with dinosaurs loose in downtown Vancouver. Now a predatory expert at Cross Photonics, Dylan is instinct vs. Evan's hyper-intellectualism; she’s the heart to his head. Her fascination with animal behaviour gives her keen insight into her friends and colleagues – often more than they would like and while her and Abby Maitland, her government funded A.R.C. counterpart, usually get along given their determination to help the creatures which come through the anomalies, they have been known to butt heads from time to time as some of their views on how to care for them have differed. 

After her and Evan traveled into the anomaly and their timeline altered, Dylan has now found herself in a radically altered world, the only other one whom remembers the way it was supposed to be, Evan Cross. Still working for Evan in this new world, Dylan must adjust to the new dynamics of her life.

Becker: "Lester, its Becker. I’m afraid the EMD’s won’t cut it; we’re going to need conventional fire power, and that means guns." Lester: "How many guns?" Becker: "Well, as many as you can spare." Hilary Becker, is a distinguished military Captain, Sandhurst graduate, and and current member of Canada’s Anomaly Research Centre headed by Officer Ken Leeds (formerly James Lester before his election as Prime Minister) having been transplanted from working in Special Forces for the British military before moving to Canada. More akin to shooting first and asking questions second, he joined the team after Captain Jake Hemple had been attacked by both a Ankylosaurus and later Troodons. Nicked named "action man" by Connor Temple, prone to carrying at combat shotgun, and seeing himself as the A.R.C. team's 'protector' he takes his job extremely seriously and he would risk his life a thousand times over for any one of them, even if it means going against orders in the long run, because he has a conscience and he knows what’s right when the day is done.

While he has a steady and sometimes tension filled friendship with Matthew Anderson, he is more prone to following Nick Cutter's orders which is why he is usually assigned to Nick's team's incursion deployments. It can be noted that he seems, at least in part, hyper critical of the way Evan Cross runs his team, not believing that they have enough training or protection- something that stems from his past experiences with his own team. There is also the beginnings of a budding romance with A.R.C. field coordinator Jessica Parker.

"This is wrong. No human being in history has seen these creatures alive before us... we've been given the most amazing gift. And how do we repay that? That privilege? By killing them because they're... inconvenient. What does that say about humans? About us? Lester, after all we've done here, is this how we're going to be remembered?"

Abigail "Abby" Sarah Maitland, born in 1985, is a zoologist and current member of Canada's Anomaly Research Centre headed by Officer Ken Leeds (formerly James Lester before his election as Prime Minister). Known for being gutsy and willing to take risks, she is in charge of the animals that couldn't be returned back to their respective time period, and is extremely resourceful and able to hold her own in the field.Classified as being M.I.A. after a mission to capture Helen Cutter over a year ago, her and Connor Temple, her now husband, have returned and reprized their roles at the A.R.C. Abby and Dylan Weir, being each others counterparts in the private and government sectors are known for their determination to save creatures at any cost, however, their views over how to handle them have differed on occasion resulting in them butting heads from time to time.

Vancouver, Canada.

As darkness encases the city of Vancouver a gilmmering circle of light, or an anomaly, forms just outside the Vancouver Zoo. A blurry figure can be seen running out of it from a distance, their identity yet unsure, just before the anomaly closes. Across town, an anomaly alert booms from the anomaly detection device (A.D.D.) stirring both a young Jessica Parker from her accidental slumber next to the console at the Anomaly Research Centre (A.R.C.) and Toby Nance from her slumber on The Tank’s couch at Cross Photonics. 

Half an hour later it’s all hands on deck, multiple teams being called in, and efforts being coordinated with Evan’s team, as it’s discovered three anomalies have opened. Night shifts meet with day shifts and teams are crossed as they quickly secure the sites all while Rex, a Coelurosauravus, flies blissfully unaware of the chaos throughout the main room of the A.R.C. favoring hovering over Jessica’s console. 

Hours later as the sun begins to rise a newpaper flies off a news stand, the headline reading: ‘JAMES LESTER, ELECTED PRIME MINISTER OF CANADA’. 

This is definitely not the same world our mystery guest journeyed from. This is a new world, a new dawn. 

Storyline Works

Given that anomalies will not always be popping up every single day and there’s more to the character’s lives then just work, we will treat each anomaly alert as a group wide event with a detailed announcement to start it out. There may also be smaller events that are team specific or specific to certain sets of people. 

Events will last a designated time frame, therefore allowing storylines to progress and the plot to develop. Events may double as activity checks. 

Key & Fixed Plot Points

Prospero a British based company run by Philip Burton and Cross Photonics a Canadian based company run by Evan Cross Ange Finch are rivals. (Some may even call them ‘arch-rivals’.) Both have government contracts, which are what allow Prospero to ‘stick it’s nose’ into the mission of the A.R.C. however it was Cross Photonics that is the main private investor in the A.R.C.’s research in essence allowing Evan’s team to be a major satellite of the A.R.C.’s team. 

The A.R.C. and everything related to it is directly under the jurisdiction of the Prime Minister and Officer Ken Leeds is currently the ‘boss’ at the A.R.C. 

The A.R.C. has multiple employees, whom usually work in shifts, usually led by Nick Cutter, Danny Quinn, and/or Matthew Anderson. The team members can vary depending on the shift however Captain Becker tends to favor Nick’s shifts as Stephan prefers Matt’s. Evan’s team at Cross Photonics seems to usually have more leeway as they more often then not get away with breaking more rules as they are a private company. 

Jessica Parker & Toby Nance are the main field coordinators for their respective teams and therefore are the main coordinators for team efforts when all teams are called out. 

As of now almost everyone is alive, including Helen Cutter and /Claudia Brown/. Evan’s wife however is dead. 

A Few Things to Remember

This is a fairly laid back RPG in that the majority of people in this RPG are indie blogs (provided they list this RPG in their verses). That being said we still expect you to be active within this storyline. If you’re not active for over a week and haven’t informed the main blog your character will be reopened. We understand you have things to do OOC, just let us know you’ll be away and we’ll make it work. 

Stay realistic with your character and the storyline. 

NO OOC Drama.

Everyone has their own smaller storylines but please run any major plots and ideas past an admin before bringing them into play.
