After graduation at Cambridge, Newt asked Amelia to marry him. He moved on to study farther for his law degree, and as they tied the knot and moved in together, Newt focused on getting licensed both in muggle law, and in wizarding law.
It was a long process, and filled with things that changed him--two of which involved his children, Luke and Mia.
He began as a defense attorney, but found that it wasn’t something that he could handle. Newt dealt with the questions that any person would ask, and found that his answers didn’t fit his job. If he knew someone was guilty, could he fight to get them off, like his bosses told him to do?
As it turned out, he couldn’t. Newt wanted more than that. He quit his job, opened up his own little firm, and started to build up from there.
That is, until a man by the name of Ted, who knew Newt from the cases he’d taken at the Ministry, told him that he wanted to speak to him. Newt invited him home, and as they sat down, Ted asked him to do something that Newt immediately turned down.
It wasn’t so easy. Through his own logic, and the logic Ted and his wife presented him, Newt knew that this was really something that he couldn’t say no to. He was needed, just like he was needed before. And while Newt didn’t think that he had it in him, everyone around him seemed to think he did. In fact, the country as a whole seemed to think he did.
Becoming Minister of Magic was the last step in Newt’s realizing he really could do anything he wanted, no matter what anyone (even himself) said otherwise.
“Let’s go to the kitchens now… I can always use food.”
Newt agreed. He clapped his mate on the back again, then headed off towards the kitchens. It was like old times, and a touch of reminiscing before they had to part ways.... hopefully not too far parted.
Ezra smiled at his friend. “You would definitely sext with me, don’t lie or deny, you would all be about that.”
“I’m fully convinced you’re into some kinky shit that I don’t get, so I don’t know if sexting would work out very well between us. Much better to get a kinky girl for you,” he teased right back. Then he clapped Ezra’s shoulder. “You’ll be okay.”

Briony noticed him looking around a bit, but didn’t pay much mind to it. She just enjoyed the song, and when he finished she nodded with a laugh. “I mean, it was decent.” She teased lightly before shaking her head. “You were amazing, as always.”

“C-Can’t be bloody British if y-you don’t like at least one Beatles s-song.” Albert said with a chuckle before he clapped again, it took a lot to muster his goofy attitude but he enjoyed having fun.
Newt smiled, enjoying the moment with his mate. It was great, being reminded a little of the things here that he actually did enjoy. Albert had been one of the only people he’d liked in his house since day one, and he was grateful for that. “Is that the only Beatles song you like?”

“That’s true,” she admitted, smiling back at him. “And I am honored to be included in such a small number,” she added with a grin.
“Yeah, I think you make up like half of the group,” he said with a chuckle. Then he patted her arm. “You’ll be fine. I believe it.”

Briony grinned as he began to play, and she nodded to show that was the song she meant. It didn’t take her long to get into it, dancing and clapping, not caring that she was by herself or looking like an actual fan girl.
Newt couldn’t help but smile at the way she was acting. He continued to play through the song, watching her, and then looking around to see if he could find the girl that the song was about - something that he hadn’t recognized until this moment.
Once he was done playing, he smiled over at her. “Good enough?”
After a moment of hugging Ezra pulled away then gave his mate a playful clap on his back. “We’ll be good. We’re friends for life and I’ll write you love letters that will make Amelia jealous.”
Newt groaned. “You need a woman before then. I don’t know if I can handle sexting with you.”

“You’re a Beatles nerd?” he asked, laughing. But of course, Newt knew it. He started to play the chords, grinning at the way Albert was acting.

“The one you wrote! That one, definitely.” Briony wasn’t sure she ever heard the song she was thinking of anywhere else, so she assumed it was one he wrote. Even if it wasn’t, she’d want to hear the song he wrote again.

It just sounded so good.” He probably had no idea which one she was talking about, but she hoped he’d just pick one he’s sung in the past.
“The one I wrote?” he asked her with a smile, not sure which song exactly had exactly stuck out to her. “Or one that was more mainstream?”
“Yeah…true enough,” Cade said with a smile. “We need to get some butterbeers and celebrate or some shit.”
“I am definitely up for that,” Newt agreed. “You want to head to the kitchens now, or meet up later?”
“I get it, I appreciate you looking out for me. You always do,” Ezra said sincerely. He smiled at Newt, nodding his head, before looking up at his friend. “I want this.. and I’ll miss you too.” For a moment the weight of the changes hit him, pulling his friend into a hug.
“I try, anyway,” he said. When Ezra went to hug him, Newt did the same, giving a good squeeze so that Ezra knew this wasn’t just something he was doing for his mate’s own benefit. He needed it too.

“YES.” Albert shouted before he started clapping.
Newt chuckled at Albert’s reaction. “What song?”
