Newspaper Project Sexual Discrimination

I made a Sexual Discrimination process video...

I want to say a huge congratulations to all of you, on your first show at the Miskin Theatre. You absolutely smashed it in my eyes and I am so proud of you. The most challenging part of this process for me was keeping you all focused and I noticed that some of you doubted the piece in the begging, which created a negative atmosphere at times. However, I personally really enjoyed working with you all on this process and I think as a company you have so much potential. Being given the opportunity to experience a director’s role has allowed me to have an insight into a directors mindset. I think this has help me as an actor because it has dramatically changed my perspective on professionalism. I now understand how important it is to be professional and I've realised that being present, focused and having a good energy about me to bring to the floor at all times, is so vital as an actor. 

It would be nice to have some feedback from you guys. Thoughts and feelings on this process? and performance?

The Dress Rehearsal !!!

This is the feedback and notes that we received based our performance...

Strengths:

- Liked the commitment

- Made a member of the audience cry

- A switch on what is happening now

- Always asking the audience questions like…

- Why can’t you be accepting? 

- How can being straight be a sin? 

- With the ending, could that be how the gay community feel? 

- Challenging the audience

- Loved the emotion 

- Could relate to Natalie’s character

- New world

- I liked how you used a classroom in one of your scenes it was so realistic 

- Took it and made it something beautiful

- Felt uncomfortable as an audience member

- Turned into flashbacks

- Sensitive subject

- Alternative universe

- This isn’t made up this is actually happening

- The message was Powerful and it had strong transitions

- Open to interpretation

- Realisation of society 

- Excepting others for who they are

-Turning a minority into a majority 

- Committed to it

- Natalie has no escape inside and outside the scene

Weakness: 

- To similar to the video that we got our inspiration from 

- Think about it on the reverse

- Need to commit to the stage combat and really go for it 

- Work more on the contact lines it wasn’t always believable 

- Freak build up needs to be slower in order to create more tension and provoke a major response

Carleigh’s note: 

- The worse thing that could happen to Sam (Natalie) is to be falsed into kissing another girl

- Touching on a subject like this is very sensitive

- You have to do it with complete commitment

- Don’t make it a mockery 

- If you are going to do it, you need take it seriously 

- Down stage hand for the slap

- Love the risks you are taking

Stomach punch - Claire

Leg kick and hair pull - Vicky (Come on you wimp fight us!)

Real face slap - Katie

Big stage slap - Claire

Push to the floor - Katie 

Crawling back - Natalie

Pull her up and push her back into the fight - Vicky

Face off, Eye contact and Silent pause - Natalie & Katie
