The difference between Ember Blade—an ember being the last glow in a once raging fire, a last bit of resistance against the dark, and a sword as a tool of righteousness, raised on behalf of others—versus Scorch, visible charring on everything that was once consumed in flames, now burnt out. Remaining evidence of damage.

Nevermore becoming a villain would inevitably drive a wedge between her and Robert. Despite feeling wrong about her actions and hurting inside at having to watch her make bad decisions, Robert would cling tight to her, refusing to give up on her. Refusing to let go.

But, Nevermore would begin pushing him away the moment she sensed hesitation in him. Maybe in part out of wanting to protect him. Maybe in part feeling as if the break would be cleaner if she initiated. Maybe in part feeling compelled by the opportunity to punish and/or sabotage herself.

And I don’t know which ending is worse:

Nevermore being forced to live the rest of her life without Aerith. Her blood best friend. The other half of her very soul. Going the rest of her days with that void ripped out of her far too soon, always feeling it gape with each passing moment.

Also, I still dunno what his name is in or out of costume so I and Nevermore have just been calling him “Shroud Jr.” (even though he’s not even remotely related to Elliot)
