Holmes: If you had never met me, none of this would exist now, I suppose.

Watson: Indeed. For example, if I hadn't met Stamford back then, or if you hadn't been looking for a flatmate... we might have spent our whole lives without ever knowing each other. But Holmes, I still think we would have met each other, no matter how many times over, as long as you are you and I am me, we would find each other every time.

My friend and companion Vitaly Solomin and I were preparing for a shoot. We were already sitting in the studio when I asked the director Maslennikov: 'Igor, why are you making this film? Why are we doing this at all, in the 1980s of the 20th century? Why are we doing it?' He started saying something about some sort of 'Englishness'...

I interrupted him: 'That's all nonsense! Can you state the purpose of the film in a single sentence?'

'No. Can you?'

'I can! We are making a film about how two highly gifted men, one of whom is simply a genius, selflessly come to the aid of those in distress! If this becomes our overarching task, then the series will succeed.'

And it did succeed.

These guys are gonna fight you.

1) in the empty house, where the original text is "well remembered voice", the Greek text is translated "beloved voice" and I'm not okay about it

2) nothing could prepare me for how deeply seeing the word "companion" in Greek hits

3) because Greek has levels of speech, it's been fascinating seeing the translators choices! For example, Lestrade and Holmes start off using the polite/formal/professional "you" to each other but here and there Holmes starts using the informal you to the point where, by the middle of the six Napoleons, he almost exclusively speaks to Lestrade informally xnsjsjs

4) ofc things hit harder in ones native tongue (see: companion) but holy shit is the Greek translation just that much more gay, wow

I've finally posted my fic from the GORGEOUS anthology, Very Sincerely Yours! My story follows a series of coded letters written between Holmes and Watson during the years of the hiatus. The absolutely gorgeous illustrations are by the lovely @soussune.

I tried to do them justice on ao3 but they’re just not nearly as gorgeous as they are on the actual pages they were designed for, so everyone go check out the PDF so you can see the illustrations in all their glory!
