every year or so tik tok starts debating who the “real mean girl” was in mean girls and i’m just so baffled by the lack of media comprehension. the point is that they are ALL MEAN GIRLS. Yes! Janis was a mean girl. But so was Regina. All of the girls were mean girls!!! That’s what the gym scene is about, every girl gong up on stage and admitting something horrible they’ve done to another person.

It’s why Cady’s character had to be home schooled and not just transferring from a different school. It had to show you that everyone is capable of being a “mean girl” because high school is kill or be killed. It’s so easy to hurt others in the name of protecting yourself. Even girls who were kind and wanted to be kind succumbed to being a “mean girl” in order to make it through the day.

Mean Girls isn’t about right vs wrong. It’s about hierarchies in high school, it’s about the performance of femininity, it’s about toxic femininity, it’s about expectations and the desire to be accepted.

I need perisex people to understand that the 'corrective' surgeries done on intersex children are nothing like bottom surgeries for trans people. Not just because of the lack of consent, but also because it is literally not the same surgery.

Bottom surgeries for trans people are done with the intent to maintain function and sensation in line with what the individual wants, they are functional just as much as they are cosmetic.

IGM on the other hand is purely cosmetic. It is done for the comfort of the parents due to the violent biases against intersex people sterily written into medical protocols. Visibly intersex genitalia is seen as already being faulty and disgusting; therefore anything done to change it would be an improvement, regardless of the side effects.

I can understand why, so I'd like to explain.

In cases of ambiguous genitalia, these surgeries are required to issue a legally recognized birth certificate. Everyone must be sorted into M or F.

The thought of just.. not assigning a sex to a child & thus violating the sex binary, is more horrific to perisex cis people than the thought of literally mutilating that child.

This is what the core of medical intersexism is. An unwillingness to question the social construct of binary sex categorization.

This is also what it's like doing research into intersex issues, as an intersex person. We see constant shit like this, and constant photos and accounts of child abuse, molestation, and rape. This is why I cannot fucking cope with doing this research much anymore. It's exhausting. It's hurtful knowing my own clit was trimmed down for no other reason than to be less horrifying to my mother, who never developed a bond with me and told me I was born wrong and abused me for 20 years until I bounced. This is why I break down when any of my posts blow up and people start demanding more info or asking questions that imply shit I never said. It's exhausting doing this and living like this.
