Neon Hacking

We've got a nice infrastructure set up, with a fully functional user base and all. Boostrap guy has a nice inerface going, and API guy has managed to get reddit integrated with the news portion of the site. Things are going a bit slow, not expecting any API prizes, but a finished project is likely at this point.

I'm having a good time though.

So the hackathon has officially begun and already we've scrapped the Bloomberg API idea. We're instead just going to integrate information from various sites (the weather network, Facebook, etc.).

Realized I didn't even have Django installed on my computer. Wasting precious time now trying to get pip working so I can get Django working so I can get the site working. Rough start but it should work out in the end.

I've now arrived at Michigan University, and after getting three cans of red bull, I've found a team. Three other students from Waterloo and I are going to be using Bloomberg's API to make a "personalized homepage" kind of site. Bloomburg's API prize is a drone so it would be sick to win it.

I'm going to be in charge of the Django behind the website, while the other three are working on Bootstrap, API integration, and AngularJS, respectively. Unfortunately that means I probably won't be learning NodeJS, but I might try to help out a bit with the AngularJS so at least I'll learn some new stuff. There are also going to be talks going on about NodeJS and AngularJS, so I'll probably check those out.

MHacks V is the University of Michigan's fifth annual 36 hour hackathon, and also the first hackathon I'm going to be writing about. I've set up prettify and mathjax, so that I can show code:

I mean, I probably won't be needing to write any of Maxwell's equations during MHacks, but you never know. I'm sure there's some dude out there working on an API for electromagnetic waves.
