Is Ed lying on the same section of the deck where he laid next to Stede, and knew that if he was going to die, he was glad it was here, looking at the man he loved?
Even if itâs not exactly the same section, the shot is a reversal: zooming in on Ed rather than pulling away, him on his back rather than his front and turning his head in the other direction. the pattern beneath him askew. His world is ending and heâs relieved, and heâs looking at no one.
