none of this is necessarily significant in and of itself. even though (cis) male shirtlessness is very normalized in many contexts (and the hxh world seems to follow similar rules to irl in this regard), there’s definitely people who are more self-conscious about that sort of thing than others, and there’s also a cultural component. kurta culture being very traditional and rule-oriented, it’s certainly possible that they have more restrictive rules regarding male modesty than other parts of the world. that being said…

there’s one exception to the No Shirtless Kurapikas rule, and i think it’s interesting

it’s a really beautiful manga cover, definitely falling under artistic nudity. but…while we all know about anime nipples (a.k.a. “it’s okay to show bare chests as long as there’s no nipple”), it’s worth noting that his chest is drawn with no detail at all, which stands out given the otherwise detailed anatomy of the rest of the drawing. there’s no line between his upper chest and his arm, even.
