"I suppose you do." Alys' eyes travel to the men now standing in the doorway.

"Jace!" Y/N charges her brother, tossing both arms around him.

He hugs her back just as tightly. "Y/N."

Jacaerys devours several servings of nearly raw meat and jerky before he is satisfied.

Aemond tenses behind her. “I will give you a day’s time before I come in search of you. That is plenty of time for you to see Jacaerys and Baela to Dragonstone and return to me.”

Aemond purses his lips, nodding despite his disapproval over her leaving.

Y/N mounts up first, offering her hand to Jace. Thankfully there is enough room for them both on the saddle.

Rhaenyra greets them at the dragon pit, watching in awe as the three of them dismount. “You are alive?”

“Indeed, mother.” Jace moves toward her on unsteady legs.

“What’s happened?” Rhaenyra notices immediately.

Baela hangs her head.

“What have you done?” Her eyes dart between them.

“I had little choice.” She admits. It was either take Aemond, or lose Jacaerys.

“Then he will come here and I will have his head.” Her mother scoffs. “Has he harmed you?”

“No. But mother, I fear that may not be possible.”

“For what reason? Speak it plainly.” Rhaenyra bites out. “What exactly did you do?”

“Jacaerys perished in the Gullet.” Y/N whispers. “We then flew with his body to Harrenhal, where the witch of their woods brought him back to us.”

“What does that have to do with Aemond?” Rhaenyra takes her daughter’s trembling hands.

“Aemond offered to tether himself as a source for Jace in my stead. I have no way of knowing what harming him would do to Jacaerys or Baela.”

“You mean to tell me I cannot kill the man responsible for your brother’s death?”

Rhaenyra sighs, taking her daughter into her arms. “You have erred as we all do. But you have brought your brother back to me. You have returned to me and shared with me the truth of it. I thank you for that. I will speak with Daemon about the witch and see what can be done.”

Y/N swallows her guilt as she watches Jace and Baela enter their home hand in hand. “Until we can decide a path forward I should return to Harrenhal and keep the peace between us.”

Rhaenyra opens and closes her mouth twice in quick succession, floundering before she agrees. “Very well. I will send word by raven when I can.”
