He took another drag off his cigarette and blew the smoke to the side. "Once heard someone say that time don't exist until it's broken... don't quite remember the context, but it made a weird sorta sense at the time, so it stuck with me. A growl came from Timber's stomach as his body remembered that it had been a long time since he'd eaten. "Nnngh... got somethin' to nibble on, doll? Fuck, think my stomach's eatin' itself..."

Rosie left the room, returning a short while later with a silver tray and a steaming bowl of the promised stew. She set it on the nightstand. "D'you think you can feed ya'self or would you like me ta' help ya?"

When Rosie returned with the bowl of stew, Timber snatched it up and ignored the spoon, simply pouring it directly into his mouth. Only when the bowl was empty did he speak up again. "Alright... what did I miss last year, Rosie? Anything big happen in Pride?"

"Guys, we're here!" Zoey exclaimed, abruptly stopping in front of a quaint, cute little house. "This is Flora's house! At least, according to the directions she gave us. Won't she be so surprised to see us~!"

Big Louie ignored Flora's order and nudged the door open the rest of the way before bounding toward the trio, gracefully slowing down before rubbing up against Rumi's legs while his tail flicked against Zoey's. The look he gave Mira was one that everyone who ever owned a cat would be familiar with: "Give me attention, and 'no' is not an answer".

Coronis looked up from the library desk, puzzled but intrigued. "Ah, of course -" She set down her writing and went to join him. "-is everything alright?"

"I want ya to learn somethin' from this, Coronis. I ain't perfect, but I'm sure you already knew that. I make mistakes like anyone else. I ain't sayin' you're gonna make a mistake like this, but... well, you've got eternity to make plenty of your own mistakes. Learn from 'em, once regrets are over."

"In that car, should we give it a proper burial?"

The body was coiled up and placed in a ceramic box that Astaroth conjured up. When they returned to the palace, Astaroth gave Coronis a hug in further thanks for accompanying him before returning to his office. He seriously doubted that in a hundred, five hundred or a thousand years, she'd be creating her own species of snakes, but you never knew. However her future ended up, he hoped that she learned an important lesson from this.

"I dunno how well you know your snakes, Cori, but do you, by chance, happen to be familiar with the Sweetmaw?" Astaroth stepped up to the glass as he looked down at the floor of the pseudo-jungle. Flowers sprung up here and there, tall with bright petals, and a single dark green snake was partly visible, its tail sticking out of a hollow log.

"I do recall the Sweetmaw. I've been reading up on your essays to prepare for any future reports you publish." She peered in through the glass. "Has something developed?"

"They've become extinct."

It was hard to believe any of the snakes could be in poor health. The herpetarium was a veritable paradise and well maintained. Had it just grown too old?

"They got their name from the sweet scent their mouths gave off, made 'em irresistible. Unfortunately, they were a victim of their own success." An image of a hawk suddenly swooped down, snagging the Sweetmaw in its talons and disappearing with it. "They didn't just attract pollinators, but anything lookin' for a sweet treat. Should've anticipated that from the start, really, that's on me."

Buzz didn't give praise like that lightheartedly; he really wanted Hellaina to know how much he appreciated what she was doing for everyone. "So, how long do you think it'll be before we move from 'making it work' to something resembling 'business as usual'? All the big fires have been put out, right?"

“I’ll get back to you in a year or two once we’ve figured out what that looks like,” she answers. “The company was started when I was five,” and she wouldn’t die for close to another thirty years. All under one man’s leadership. “So yes, all the big fires,” she nods towards the rest of the room, te sounds of laughter and muffled conversation while they all play a children’s game. “We’re finally starting to break even. VBS is the first to get back to baseline. Never thought I’d be grateful for kids educational content,” she says, shaking her head slightly in amused disbelief.

"So," Buzz pulled himself back up into a sitting position and turned to face Hellaina, "I don't think I ever got the full story on just how you were next in line to become CEO after the old guy. Or maybe I did, an' forgot about it. Anyway, how'd that come about, huh?"
