“Good afternoon! Have you brought food?”
THE VERGE REVIEW OF ANIMALS, STARRING: THE LEOPARD GECKO
Because of how it looks, the leopard gecko is the lizard that most makes you believe that you have bridged the implacable void between the minds of mammals and reptiles. But sorry, it isn’t true. You do not know the leopard gecko, it does not know you.
@lizardbeans, @kaijutegu, @followthebluebell, thoughts?
my review of this review:
Good stuff:
mentions leopard geckos
Bad stuff:
does not mention leopard geckos enough
ok, but seriously, leos do not eat mice. They CAN eat mice, but they shouldn’t be given mice because their fat content is too high and they represent a choking hazard. I appreciate that it mentions that geckos can see color though. neat fact to include.
so they can see how crazy they all look. this is wonderful. they know that some of their gecko friends look like over ripe grapefruits and others look like Dalmatians.
Hibiscus 100% knows Lady is a catch, confirmed. Lady 100% knows that Hibiscus is a big goofball who’s only good for being eaten and stepping on her face though.
He’s known for his starring roles on screens both big and small, but it’s his lifetime role that inspired his latest book — that of a father.
Taye Diggs joined NPR’s Michel Martin for a conversation about his new book, Mixed Me, which is inspired by his son, Walker, and focuses on a day in the life of a mixed-race child.

Shit.
advice to young punks
- you don’t need to have a jacket with patches - or army boots - or dyed hair or piercings or tattoos - you definitely don’t need to be skinny, white, male, cis, or straight - all you need to do is like punk music - don’t bother pretending to like bands you don’t; you’ll either get into them or you won’t and either way that’s okay - if someone knocks you over in the pit and doesn’t apologise, don’t be afraid to call that fucker out - make friends in the line for shows, you meet cool people that way - graffiti is fine, but don’t steal shit if you don’t need it - only you get to decide if it’s punk, fuck what anyone else says - it’s more than okay to listen to nicki minaj now and then - don’t worry abt being embarrassing: you are, and that’s fine - do yourself a favour and listen to more female fronted/poc bands - don’t let white cis men in the scene tell you shit
praying mantis need some damn props is that not some beast ass shit imagine squaring up with an enemy like 10 times your size on some

Like many, activist Stacy Bias was incensed when she saw Nicole Arbour’s hate-filled “Dear Fat People” video. But she decided to turn her anger into positivity and sketched out these awesome merit badges (that you can totally buy). They’re fantastic on their own — but Bias’ journey makes them even more important.

please like/reblog if you are a vegan POC, fat vegan, disabled vegan, or low-income vegan. i want to stop people from erasing you whenever they argue against veganism. you matter and you are an important part of the vegan community.
Hi there, love your blog! I was wondering your opinion of people who say veganism is a "white privilege". Do you think people underestimate the PoC vegan community, or is veganism a rare thing?
Thank you Nonny!
.
I think people that thing veganism is a white privilege unfortunately are drunk off the white supremacy kool aid. See, white vegans happen to have too much focus in the veganism movement. And people saying that veganism is a white privilege only furthers to confirm the idea that white people are at the center of the movement. They are not. They did not create veganism and veganism is way more than limited to white vegans.
.
I don’t think that people underestimate the PoC vegan community. I believe that people dismiss the PoC vegan community. White people dismiss us because they believe they matter more in the movement/they know better. PoC ignore us because it complicates their anger at white vegans.Â
.
PoC vegans are in larger number than most people care to acknowledge. However, many PoC are forced to decide whether they stand with PoC or with white vegans in picking up a cause. So for me, I am a black vegan, but I am more passionate about the rights of my people, than I am about animal rights. So IRL you will hear me speaking on human rights issues and me participating in community activism that effects my community, before you see me protesting for animals. Fortunately, the way I see myself as a vegan, there is space for an overlap, but that’s not what your question is about :)
.
Bottom line, there are more PoC than people care to acknowledge and isolating veganism as  a white privilege only means that people have chosen to accept the way that white people see veganism instead of how PoC see veganism
