Eventually we as a species will make legitimate Bolters. I await that day.
If you want an example of the Imperium in a nutshell, you get a Bolter and watch what happens when you shoot someone with it. It’s a gun scaled up to the same overly genetically modified extremes as the Space Marines themselves and then used to blow up daemons in the face. It shoots explosive, rocket propelled bullets to deal with problems a simple laser or normal bullet would deal with easily. Come on, all you need to do is paint it gold and slap more skulls on it and you have the Imperium in a mag fed, .75 caliber nutshell.
Bolters were developed for the Imperium in the 30th Century to replace the standard issue Volkite weapons that had been used by Marine Legions for generations dating all the way to the Age of Strife. While incredibly effective against even armored targets, these Volkite guns however were highly technical, and gradually were replaced by the simpler design. I mean slightly simpler. This is still a fully automatic artillery piece shooting armored piercing explosive rocket propelled bullets.
Seriously, read that over and over again and tell me that doesn’t sound ridiculously cool.
I mean what do you want me to roast here? These things are semi/full automatic grenade launchers that can crack open armor, orks and daemons like nothing else. It’s almost always gaudy, with every Chapter trying to deck these things out depending on their taste and edginess levels but still. It kill daemon good, it kill heretic good, it sounds like a war going off when you pull the trigger and if anything’s still alive when you’ve stopped firing, reload, praise the Omnissiah and keep shooting.
