small rant abt respecting the deceased
I wanted to talk abt a convo I had with a friend earlier abt the recent, yet passing of Oliver Tree. This morning, I was when I was talking with my friends in our gc abt how i hated ppl’s reaction to his death, cz if any of yall have seen, the sympathy is VERY lacking, & honestly it isnt even with jst oliver tree either. But however, one of my friends not only went on to prove my point, saying that he “copied kobe”, but as well as saying things like, “why does everyone care sm hes jst some rich guy, whats so special abt him, ppl die everyday and no one ever gaf, thats jst how life is move on” …. Maybe im scretching this but i feel like he was trying to indirectly say he doesnt care. Like i get if you didn’t listen to him, i rlly didnt listen to much of him either, but cmon dude this guy jst died. Ik this is my friend and all, but his whole response came off as disrespectful, or at the very least very rude. Jst cz someone is mourning the death of one person doesnt mean they wont mourn others, and putting down someone for mourning one person instead of another doesnt make you better imo …..
Meanwhile, this same friend idolizes ppl like kurt cobian & michael jackson, whos deaths like oliver’s are similar in terms with how short their lives were cut, and how suddenly it happened. Which makes me think, whats stopping someone from responding to kurt or michael’s death the same way he (my friend) responded to oliver’s ? Like the same way my friend doesnt listen to oliver tree, ion listen to nirvana, ion listen to michael jackson. But yet, i still have endless respect for the two of them. In fact, whats stopping someone from responding in such a way abt any other regular person’s death ? If someone were to say such a thing abt say, an older woman who got run over, obviously ppl wld be upset. So it doesnt matter the status that person held when they were alive, we shldnt be saying shit like “what makes them different from everyone else ?” Cant fucking believe dead ppl need to earn ppl’s sympathy & mourning now apparently ….
