Poet Amanda Gorman arrives for today’s Inauguration Day ceremonies – at 22, she’s the youngest poet in recent memory to recite at an inauguration. 

“I think there is a real history of orators who have had to struggle, a type of imposed voicelessness, you know, having that stage at inauguration,” Gorman tells NPR’s Steve Inskeep. “So it’s really special for me.“ Check that conversation out here.

Look at your hands. They have pet so many cute animals and dried so many of your tears.

Look at your feet. They have walked you to some of your favourite places, and walked you away from the bad ones.

Look at your belly. Think of all the times when it's been full and warm with your favourite foods.

Look at your legs. They have held you up when you thought you weren't strong enough to stand

Look at your eyes. They have seen so many beautiful people and places, and have cried tears of joy and sadness

Look at your mouth. It has laughed so many times, and spread so many words of kindness
