I do research as my full time 40 hrs a week career and I love it so much!! The kind of humanities-based research an in-depth video essay requires is not necessarily easy but it's rewarding and entertaining. You get to go on these wild adventures with your research subjects, following your research down rabbit holes you may not have expected. You get to be like a detective solving a case. You tunnel into the subject and emerge with a new knowledge of the world you live in. To just straight up steal the hard work of the people who write these books, write these articles, make these videos, etc is not just ethically wrong...it's hateful. It robs us of our mental and intellectual labor. It says our insights only have value in so far as briefly generating content and even then we aren't entitled to make a living from it.
