Tell the world that we, kids and adults and everyone in-between deserve enriching, thought provoking art. We are back to animation experimental era, it flopped back then but we're here now, let's show studios that we will not take just mediocre sequels after sequel, surface level storytelling and talking down to their audience. Disney, Dreamsworks, ilumination, all of them need to know that.

Laika has been nominated for an Oscar since Coraline, it hasn't won. And with Disney not winning for the past 4 years because of fatigue and unoriginality, just like Ghibli won their first oscar with "The boy and the heron" despite having an all beloved filmography, we need Laika to win with "Wildwood".

How to draw underwater settings: make everything floaty and weightless. Done! ✅ Unless you're a geek like me and want to learn all about how to paint the lighting: the highlights of the ripples, the bluish glow, the reflections.. there's a lot to think about but it's so satisfying once you get it right!

Seriously though, I thought this was a great scene. It was a perfect mix of sweet and sexy, cathartic, and a little absurdist. I loved how even though sex is a new aspect of their relationship, it felt natural and true to their characters. Frenchie doesn’t push, he waits for Kimiko to take the lead. He checks that Kimiko is okay and ready— in every sense of the word (“Has your bottom half regrown?”). Even his choice of words is respectful. We know he’s absolutely capable of using more explicit language with every single member of the boys (see: the casual mention of anal beads, tossed salads, and eating MM’s mother’s “sweet and savory vagine”). But never with her. He’s so careful and gentle with Kimiko.

These two are so tuned into each other, there’s no hesitation when they take off their clothes in front of each other for the first time. Frenchie, of course, is immediately naked. I don’t think we’ve seen his scars this close up before. There’s a long gash in his shoulder where he took a bullet rescuing her so many years ago.

I love this very brief moment when Kimiko is looking at her boyfriend’s body finally, there’s so much unguarded joy. It’s kind of funny, and wholesome, and sexy at the same time? And when we see Frenchie kneeling to undress Kimiko, the look on his face is worshipful, pure love.

All these years, Kimiko is almost always the one to initiate. She kisses him for real, for the first time, in the hospital. She confesses her true feelings at the end of Season 4. She initiates their love making and she’s the one to push Frenchie on to the couch. He’s been waiting respectfully this whole time. Frenchie! Who seems to have zero impulse control. Who will sleep with the wrong person, no matter the consequences. He’s been in love since the beginning and if he had to, he’d probably wait forever for her.
