Mannnnn like. Exploring Risu and Aikawa's relationship there's just... So much there to unpack. Doomed from the starttttt. Like. For the both of them they were like you're the first person to be my friend, to care for me in a world that's previously been uncaring about the both of them. You're my partner. I love you, I trust you. But that doesn't save them. Like... Aikawa's willful ignorance of Kai/the embodiment of human hatred that possesses him and he ends up killing 'his one and only' because Risu trusted him. Then Curse Risu haunting him, and stripping away everything Kai had worked for, killing one version of him only for things to go awry. And in turn Risu when he's revived waking up and not knowing who killed him. Knowing that it must've been Aikawa who ratted him out, and the anger and betrayal that causes; the brief moment where Aikawa desperately pretends nothing has changed (one has killed the other and the other is trying so hard to), and helps Risu heal, looking after and feeding him. And Risu just letting him because he also wants it back but he doesn't trust Aikawa, not anymore. Aikawa in the end pleading for Risu to kill him, to end the curse that Aikawa and Risu are both under, and Risu kills him, but it's not revenge, it's something sad. And then Kaiman being revived, Kaiman living and Risu offering to turn Kaiman 's head back if he turns devil. The awkward way they talk to each other at the end. Like... God there's so much to unpack within canon let alone if we want to venture into after canon.
Risu's offer to turn Kaiman back would be to turn his face back to Aikawa's face.... It's interestingly sort of selfish. Risu's partner was Aikawa, and it's clear they both care about each other deeply and their lives were pretty closely enmeshed... so to have Aikawa be basically gone, turning Kaimans face back would be getting closer to having it like Aikawa was back. Also, how much does this Kaiman remember? Does he start to remember all the memories? The tension that could crop up between the two of them over Risu knowing a different version of Kaiman, expecting being close to someone who you actually aren't really... And even then that closeness is tainted with literally both being killed by the other. I think for Kaiman it'd be easier, since he pleaded to be killed; and he wouldn't necessarily have the last memories of Risu killing him. But then you've also got Risu, and holy shit; the betrayal of being killed by a knife to the neck and hand over your mouth, and glimpsing the person you love. How do you deal with that? Like yeah it wasn't Aikawa but also, it was. That's the same.bodu, the same hands. Also I think in some ways it's sad that Risu decides to try to become a devil (don't get me wrong, it makes total sense) because in a way it shows he doesn't have close human connections anymore with Aikawa being gone and Kaiman taking his place, as becoming a devil you generally are expected to not be held back by regular connections (like yeah there's kawajiri he's hung out with but kawajiri acts still a lot like a devil... It's by an far not the same closeness he had with Aikawa). Also, it's interesting because Devil's are capricious and more self centered... and would Risu when he turns devil decide to turn Kaiman's face back anyway, like Haru with Haze (at least for a little while) due to his selfish reasons? Anyways there's lots of angst and interesting things to dig into here, and some fanfics have started digging into these topics which is absolutely fantastic but also... So much moreeee could be done...
