!!! DELTARUNE Ch2-4 Spoilers !!!
You know I've started to wonder recently about a different kind of Weird Route in Deltarune. What if it wasn't out of malice or evil, what if we simply took Rudy's words too far? He wants her to be stronger, to be able to stand on her own, so what if we truly do this as means to help her no matter the cost?
This is where the "Obsessive Angel Route" idea began for me. I realised that most choices people make in a Weird Route aren't needed, so what if we only aimed to make Noelle stronger? I've only made it to the start of Ch3 so far with this playthrough but I'll note what I did and plan to do.
First of all, I decided to be a Pacifist if Noelle wasn't there, so I spared everything until reaching her and went back to sparing enemies once she left (Minus Spamton bc he can't be spared). One thing to note is that recruited enemies still become lost if you freeze them, despite the game not saying they're "lost."
When prompted with the ferris wheel dialogue I still picked "Susie would go with you"...and the route didn't get aborted or change, which I found very interesting. Besides that there wasn't much I could do different, but I did decide I'd comfort Noelle as best as I could while keeping her on the path, so I didn't take her watch. The last interesting change I've noticed is that your town still grows in this route and has new people, albeit noticeably less than a Pacifist Route, and you don't get any of the silly Chaos King cutscenes, he knows you "left the others behind, just as you had left us" and tells you to leave.
Now onto what I plan to do/haven't tested; I'll be doing Pacifist in Ch3+4 because the route will already be locked in and Ch4 WR doesn't involve any battles. Alongside this I'll be helping Tenna by giving him to Mettaton, visiting Berdly in the hospital and turning on the heater for him, ensuring that Kris and Susie bond at the café and lake, and will be comforting Ralsei and saying his emotions are valid and his feelings are real. All of these actions, to my knowledge, will not undo or abort the WR and Noelle will still be stronger with us in her heart. As one final note I'll say that it's still impossible to get all the eggs because of Ch2, unless you'd be able to backtrack with Noelle after getting the egg and then can start Snowgrave (though I will not be testing that myself).
Anyway, I know this is a bit all over the place, but I just wanted to share this theoretical route I realised could very likely have a different outcome than the traditional Weird Route. My goal is to make Noelle strong enough to stand on her own even when we're gone, after all.
