This is something I‘ve talked about with Team Sexy Bitches ( @dcsntmatter​, @omniversentertwined​, and @jackalhunt​), and the sad thing is that Shambhala is simply not what Nack thinks it is.

Unbeknownst to him, the Marvelous family weren’t just a family of wild-hearted treasure hunters looking for the next biggest scoop. Instead, their intentions had been heavily corrupted along the way, twisting them into some of the greediest, most dangerous individuals around as they learned that Shambhala was, in fact, not some mythical kingdom of paradise and wonder. Instead, it was a kingdom that housed a terrible curse that, if released, could plague the entire world with destruction and ruin if let loose. The Marvelous family uncovered this truth, and it was their intention to find Shambhala so that they could try and master this curse as to strong-arm the world into total submission.

Nack, not alive during their downfall, was not raised with this in mind. He was told that a secret society slaughtered his family, but he was not aware of the context. To him, they were legendary rogues, unjustly slaughtered in their search for the world’s greatest treasure. Thus, he’s made it his entire life mission to live up to their legacy, thus transforming him into the ruthless, ambition-filled treasure hunter that he is now.

He doesn’t like to show it, but he does have a good deal of insecurity when it comes to his family. He worries that he’s not yet eclipsed them despite so many of his legendary exploits that have made him a legend. It doesn’t matter what he finds or where he goes -- none of it will matter until he, a Marvelous, finds Shambhala and lives in what is fabled to be an ancient city of paradise and wealth.

He didn’t expect the ultimate question to just come out of nowhere. Yes, he was Nack Jimi Marvelous, used to answering questions on the fly to save his own neck, and yet where did this come from, and why did he always feel a twinge of pain each time he thought of them? He was the inheritor of a legacy far greater than most Mobians alive, and yet he felt trepidation in his throat just thinking of it.

Did Zero know about the Marvelous family line? Did he know about their untimely death, ripping Nack away from the family that would have welcomed him into their ranks with open arms? Did he know about their endless wandering across the planet, their search for ancient artifacts unwavering? And did he know about the heights they’d go to, the trenches they’d slink through, the prairies they’d run through, and the temples they’d study just to get closer and closer to the Mythical Kingdom: Shambhala?

Perhaps now it’d be commemorated in memory. Perhaps now was the chance to make his mission to the jackal as clear as the sun was shining.

“Y’wanna know somethin’, Ra?” Nack started, his fists on his hips and his eyes staring straight through their soul. “My name’s Nack Jimi Marvelous. If yer a treasure hunter worth ya salt, ya know that my family name carries a legacy greater than almost anythin’ ya bloody eyes’ve done seen. We did everythin’, Ra. We went on hunts you could only dream of. We fought all kinds’a guys, we fucked over thousands’a other families, we made our mark on th’ world unbeatable, and WE were th’ ones that were about to find somethin’ unthinkable.”

“Shambhala. Th’ ancient, mythical kingdom that’s been lost t’time itself.”

“An’ they were murdered for it.”

He paused as if to let it all sink in. Though he did not live through their downfall, he knew of it well. His father, Merrick, never let him forget that their right to glory had been taken from them. Such an action was unforgivable -- those who killed them had to pay -- and Nack, still looking at Zero, balled up his fists as if to confirm that this was the only mission in his life that truly ever mattered.

“I don’t care HOW long it takes, mate. I don’t care if I’ve gotta turn this entire world t’ash; I WILL succeed where they failed. I’ve already been trackin’ down th’ people that did it -- that took them away from me -- an’ I intend t’get them ALL back. Around th’ world, my family’s lost, ancient treasures that hold th’ keys t’Shambhala have been scattered. It’s my duty t’find ‘em all an’ put t’gether th’ path t’Shambhala ‘fore any other bloke thinks it’s gonna be THEIR payday. THIS is what I’ve been raised t’do ever since I was a young pup. NOBODY but a Marvelous can find Shambhala, Ra.”

—- “ Yeah, RAT. Cuz you sure are acting like one at least. Didn’t your mom ever teach you to not take things that don’t belong to you? ” Ben wasn’t exactly privy to ancient artifacts. He’d seen plenty, make no mistake. The Mask of Ah Puch, the Dominus Librium, even the Potis Altiare. All various artifacts of vast power, some of which may or may not be alien. But that didn’t mean he was an expert on the topic. Kevin? Maybe. But not Ben. Not that it mattered, considering whatever it was definitely didn’t belong to this… weasel, or whatever he was.

      The guy reminds him of Argit, but with a more annoying accent. And Argit is already pretty annoying without an accent, so that doesn’t bode well.

      “ Figured you’d say something like that. Let’s see what Diamondhead has to say about that, though! ” Firing up the Omnitrix, he moves the dial until Diamondhead was selected, and then slams down on the button with a confident little smirk on his face. What emerges from the oncoming flash of green light, you may ask? Well… it had a head for sure, but nothing about it screamed… diamond, exactly.

—- “ Waterrrrrr Hazaaaard! ” He pauses, for just a moment. “ Oh come on, really?! Well… I guess I can work with this. ”

      Pointing a hand toward Nack, palm outstretched, the Orishan form narrows it’s eyes. From a hole in the palm, a trickle of water drips downward, as if he was letting this act as the thief’s final warning.

      “ Hope you like water parks, because it’s about to get slippery in here if you don’t give up the… whatever it is you took! ”

“WHAT IN TH’ BLOODY HELL DID’JA JUST TURN INTO!?”

It never ended, did it? The weird anomalies, the intense encounters, the daring escapades; would they ever end? On one hand, he absolutely adored it to the fullest, drinking it up like the finest wine on Sunday afternoon like a connoisseur who lived to consume only the world’s greatest. However, he did not ask for a human to not only turn into some abomination, but to also steal speak with him as if any sentience hadn’t left him.

What did he do? Was it the watch? Nack saw him slam his palm down upo nit, and then a bright, ominous light seemed to turn Ben into whatever it was that’s now before him. Such a priceless device of power could make anyone into a powerful beast, and it was with someone suc has him? Nack didn’t know whether to be impressed or frightened, but with a priceless stone in one hand and a revolver in the other, he grinned at his adversary and got to work doing what he always did.

“YER ONE FUCKED UP MESS, NOW AIN’T’CHA!? This stone belonged to one FAMOUS explorer from ages ago, an’ I thought THAT was gonna be th’ best catch’a th’ day! But I SAW what you just did, mate, an’ you know what I want!?”

“I WANT WHATEVER IT IS THAT WAS ON YA BLOODY WRIST!”

Aiming at the creature and clicking the safety off his revolver, he cared not if it was a man or beast anymore. Instead, he fired but a single shot, the bullet speeding towards his opponent whilst two fierce eyes studied whatever Ben decided to do. He could have simply made his own escape and secure, but where would the thrill in that be? This Ben figure had something more valuable than any treasure on this planet.

Phony? He laughed. Oh, by the gods above did he laugh, only to then look down at the smaller creature with a disgustingly smug face worth punching into the next galaxy. Yes, he deceived her, but was she not safer here in Tralius, away from his gunslinging, Wild West counterpart that knew only of death and destruction? At least here in this dimension -- away from all the problems hers suffered -- she could be herself, appreciated for who she was and free from the self-destructive mature of a man on a suicide mission.

Thus, he didn’t get angry. He didn’t raise a hand to strike her, she didn’t fuss her out, and he didn’t even give her the satisfaction of mild annoyance. He instead only rolled his eyes, lounging on his tail as he gave a reply in a tone satisfied beyond compare.

“Are you even LISTENIN’ t’ya’self, ya little ankle biter? Yeah, I ain’t YOUR Nack! Never was, never will be! But LOOK at how GUH-REAT I’ve been treatin’ ya! From lettin’ you roam around my mansion t’feedin’ ya like yer m’own flesh an’ blood, there’s no denying it: I’m BETTER than him in EVERY way that matters!”

“You COULD go back t’him an’ see how fast he gets you killed, ORRRRRR y’could stick around here an’ see just what I’ve got t’offer ya! I’M not a ruthless psychopath with an accent that makes me look like a bloody wuss! I’M a man’s man -- a real ripper -- an’ you an’ I are gonna make one GUH-REAT team t’gether!’

“Hm yes, truly the gun to put all guns to shame. Allow me to take a SHOT in the dark and say there is no competition”

“Purple RAT?” Asked Nack in a mocking tone, the ancient artifact still in his hand as the museum alarms wailed out without reprieve. Shaking his head, the purple rat in question could only coo, “let’s consider my options, mate! I could surrender now an’ go t’jail fer a LOOOOONG time, OR I could take my chances, beat’cha ass int’ a bloody fine pulp, skedaddle my way aaaalllll th’ way back home, an’ even tell my boys ALL about th’ little hero who COULDN’T!”

He tipped his hat. He twirled his revolvers. He looked Ben right in the eyes, shook his head as if this was but another evening for him, and added the finishing touch to his statement with another boast about as powerful as the family name he derived from.

Fists proudly on his hips and a grin stretching on his face, the Tralian Wonder known as Nack Jimi Marvelous couldn't help but snicker. A button pusher she was, but there was a fire in her -- unrestrained and wild -- and he’d not dare step away until he saw said fire for what it really was.

“Aaaaiin’ttttt you ADORABLE, huh?” Teased Nack, his eyes glistening with a powerful flash of joy. He even went as far as to stand on the tip of his boots just to have the height advantage over her. “I’d LOVE t’sit here an’ tell ya AAALLLLLL about my adventures with men and women alike when night falls, but what can I say? SOME of us are just BORN better than others! It’s okay, my fellow hybrid cunt; not AAALLLLLLLLL’A us are born equal!
