healerandrxidâ:
As the dim fire illuminated her optics, 7H blinked to confirm the sight before her. They managed to organize a gathering in conditions like this? As much as she wanted to find some ulterior motive, they all just seemed to be enjoying each otherâs company. They didnât seem to react much to the commotion though, not yet. Carefully stepping forward and away from the bitter cold of the door, 7H flinched at the sound of her own heels. The machines seemed to stir, but she hoped it wasnât enough to initiate confrontation so quickly. There werenât any visible weapons though they didnât necessarily need themâ she was quite surprised to see them chat so nonchalantly.
â..Theyâre just..speaking to one anotherâŚâ She leaned in a little closer, trying to pick up on their speech. âOh..I think this group is arguing about something. The one next to them are quietâŚI have to listen in!â The healer whispered, peering over the corner as she moved completely inside.
Nodding, 9S listens in as well.
âWell I, for one, am sick of it!â One machine exclaims to another, gesturing dramatically with its stubby arms. 9S notes that it has the ragged remains of a scarf looped around its head, lacking a neck. âThose hooligans! Throwing their loud parties all throughout the night when decent folks are trying to sleep! Playing their rock music! It makes me sick!â
âI know daring, I know,â the other soothes, patting its fellow machine with a mechanical clunking. âBut weâll be rid of them soon enough. The ski jumping competition is fast approaching, and we-âÂ
They both pause, turning to look at the androids in the doorway. 9S extends a hand, prepared to hack one of them, when it squeals in delight. âAh! New guests! You must help us, please! Please come in, youâll catch your death out there!â
Several more machines appear to take notice and toddle over, all babbling in greeting over each other. â...what the hell,â 9S murmurs to 7H. âIâve never seen anything like this before. But I guess we donât have much of a choice, do we? Canât stay out in the storm.â Even if they could, who would pass up an opportunity to study such odd, erratic behavior? Surely not him.
haemoneironâ:
âHuh.â Well if youâd asked her a few hours ago, she probably would have said the same. She might not have put the emphasis on the same place in the sentence though. âI⌠Suppose thereâs some logic to that. Maybe. Iâm trying not to make too many assumptions right now, but I donât have much else to go off.â
âDo you like it? The room that is. I suppose thatâs not really whatâs important here. Black and gold? Sounds stylish. Havenât seen it though. There seems to be weapons here and there on display, but Iâm not sure if theyâre replicas or not. I⌠Havenât seen any floating boxes, no. Armed or otherwise.â Sheâd rather not, all things considered.Â
She folded her arms as she thought for a moment. âItâs strange. I was travelling somewhere, or about to. Itâs⌠A method of travel that involves me passing out and waking up somewhere else- donât ask- but instead of waking up where I intended to arrive, I was in this city. Say, does this mean anything to you?â She searched in her pockets for the paper the Messengers had given her, unfurling it to show a string of nine numbers with no particular context or sequence.
âDo I like it?â He repeats, as if he hadnât expected her to even consider his opinion. â...sure? I mean, Iâm not exactly used to luxurious accommodations. Itâs nice that it seems like itâs got a bunch of stuff Iâd collect in it, but the fact that I donât remember anything is making it a little hard to get excited over it.â
So, no Pod, no sword... Usually he could pick up on them if they were close enough, but he canât find any familiar signals in the castle at all. âWhat? You canât just tell me not to ask about something and then expect me not to ask about it!â He sounds close to whining, but reins himself back in, peering at the paper she offers him. âI guess we can talk about it later, though. Do you remember where you were trying to go? This could mean a lot of things... Could be a password to something, or a combination to a lock, or a Wi-Fi password, or coordinates. Really hard to say... Hey, can you show me where those weapons were?â
âIt figures, doesnât it... The very first mission they grant me a new partner, I go and get myself lost in a place like this. Is it possible to accidentally program someone with bad luck?â

I drew all the characters cute and tiny then I just wrote the high school AU stuff around it lol.
haemoneironâ:
Sheâd not long descended from that eerie tower and the uncomfortably familiar room when she had finally ran into someone in this place and almost jumped out of her skin because of it. If she hadnât been looking at the string of numbers on the paper in her hand she might have accidentally shot him. Interesting clothes.Â
âI⌠Was about to ask you the same thing. You donât live here?â
âIâve never seen this place before today, but Iâve got keys that work here.â That probably sounded suspicious. âI donât know how I got those keys either. Who are you? What weapons are you looking for?â
âNo, I donât. I donât really live anywhere...â Even if his room seems to illustrate otherwise. 9S canât say heâs ever been forced to think about that fact before. Even the Bunker wasnât much of a home. He smiles easily, as if this was all some funny coincidence, rather than an enormous problem. âDefinitely not in a castle. But if youâve got the keys for it, either this is your place, or someoneâs decided that you live here now.â
âEither Iâm a guest too, or someone made my room up the way they thought Iâd like it before they dumped me here.â 9S tilts his head back in the direction heâd come. âI had a sword, though. Black and gold, and my Pod. Think of a floating box with arms, about this big.â He holds his hands apart about the with of a shoebox.Â
It couldnât be just a coincidence, though. Both of them waking up here with no knowledge of how they arrived. Things like this didnât happen for no reason. Especially when it involved putting him in contact with the closest thing to a human heâd ever seen. âYou say you donât remember it either? Do you remember anything at all?â
ofpolyhexâ:
For a moment, they donât say anything. They shutter their optic and listen to the sound of the grass rustling beside their antennae, to the chirping of birds and the subtle whirring of their own components. Itâs not long before their usual restlessness itches beneath their plating, however, and they open their optic to glance sideways at their amica.
âMe? A teacher? Thatâs the worst idea Iâve ever heard.â Whirl chuckles, shaking their helm. âI think Iâll be fine. Iâm just in a weird mood. I owe you one for listening, Nines.â
9S reaches over and pats the warm, dusty hull of Whirlâs torso. âNot a teacher necessarily, but...â Trailing off, he sighs to himself, as the right word refuses to come to him. A parent? No, Whirl didnât seem like theyâd be interested in that either. âYou shouldn't ignore your feelings completely. Maybe you just need to fight something. I know Iâd be restless if the machine war ever ended... These breaks are nice, but itâs always waiting for me to come back. Having that constant is kind of a comfort.â
@haemoneiron
Human? Maybe. No, somethingâs off, somethingâs not pinging right. Not machine either though, not like Adam and Eve. Thereâs a heartbeat in there somewhere.
âHey, sorry if I startled you.â 9S waves casually. Heâd woken up in a room that looked like something heâd create, full of cracked aquariums and glass jars and plants uprooted by hand, but which he had no memory of. His body was fully intact, no memory corruption detected in his personality data. This was much too advanced to be some kind of simulation.
For now, heâll give her the benefit of the doubt that sheâs as clueless as he is. âDo you live here? Do you know where my weapons are?â
ofpolyhexâ:
âThatâs the thing, though. Iâm millions of years old, and I just feel like Iâm stagnating.â
They sigh with a whistle of air through their vents, frame sinking into the grass slightly. âWhat am I missing? Why donât I get excited for things anymore? I mean, I get excited, but nothing ever lasts.â
Clever as 9S was, he didnât have all the answers, and he certainly couldnât understand what it was like to live for millions of years. He watches the clouds drift past, casting shadows over the two of them. âMaybe you need someone else to be excited with? Someone to teach, I mean. Someone who can remind you why you get excited over certain things?â

ofpolyhex replied to your post: "Do you ever worry that you'll never find...
âI guess thatâs good.â They lay on their back, arm-cannon crossed behind their helm as they stare up at the skies. âI dunno. I feel⌠weird, I think.â
9S mimics the position, folding his arms behind his head. âWeird how? Your race lives so long, I would think that things changing would be something youâd be used to...ââ
"Do you ever worry that you'll never find something permanent, and that your whole life will be one big never-ending change until you die?"
âUh... I canât say itâs something Iâve ever worried about. Some things just donât change, like my mission or the machines. Is that how you feel, Whirl?âÂ
xcoriateâ:
âDude. Nothing matters. Get with the picture already.âÂ
Shigaraki had originally planned on messing with this kidâs head a little bit, but the conversation had gone wildly off track. 9S, his pure innocent whiteness was having a strange effect on him, that Shigaraki didnât quite understand.Â
He wanted to rip that blindfold off, make him see, make him look at how dirty everyone was. He thought of the worst possible ways he could hurt someone to prove to 9S that humans were bad, but he didnât lift a single finger. He just kept staring, blankly.Â
He didnât get people. He didnât get this robot.Â
âYouâre right. I didnât have to do any of that. What do I want? Maybe⌠I want to kill you.â
Shigaraki suddenly reached his hand forward. He tried to put his hand on 9Sâ face, holding it up right in front of his eyes, so those five fingers were the last thing he would ever see.Â
He tried but he stopped.
He just held his hand up in front of 9Sâs face without moving another centimeter forward.Â
âIf I killed you it would be the exact same as killing a person, okay? I would be killing you. You exist, and have consciousness, and can be broken beyond all repair. Then youâll just be nothing. Youâll be gone. Youâd feel pain, it would hurt like a bitch. Come on, care a little bit! Itâs no fun killing someone that doesnât even care if he dies.âÂ
9Sâs gaze flicks from Shigarakiâs hand, to his face, though he doesnât flinch, still resting against him as if they were friends. â...alright. I donât want to die. They probably have some way to keep it from being permanent here, I bet. Canât have your test subjects killing each other willy-nilly. I donât feel pain the same way you do, but... I guess if given the choice, Iâd rather not die. But it still wouldnât be the same as killing a person. I know I can come back, that theyâd keep replacing me as long as I was useful. A human being canât. Not usually.â
The urge to please this human and the urge to tell the truth seem to have come to some sort of agreement inside him. 9S looks away, past Shigaraki, then closes his eyes in calm acceptance of whatever happened next. âIs that what you wanted to hear? Iâm not very good at this philosophical stuff...â
i wanna do event stuff but iâm waiting on the mods to clarify something for me!

â  so ,  little boy ,  whatâs this for ?  ever attempted to take it off ?  or did someone tell you that youâd explode if you do ?   â
â...I guess youâre not wrong. But think of it this way: If the humans didnât get chased off their own planet, I never wouldâve existed, never gotten to see all the things Iâve seen, never gotten to meet all the people here. If the war was over tomorrow and they wanted to take me apart because my work was done, Iâd be okay with that. What goodâs a soldier if thereâs nothing left to fight?âÂ
Itâs said matter-of-fact, his falsely-cheerful facade dropped like a brick. While heâd joked with 2B about shopping, going to the park, playing at being human in the aftermath, it had all been nothing more but idle chatter. His purpose in the machine war was all he had to cling to in order to keep himself moored in this place, the thought that he might someday return to the front lines, that all this data he was gathering here would useful for something outside of his own temporary satisfaction. YoRHa existed for one purpose and one purpose only, to win the war, and with no war, what good were any of them?
He turns his face towards her inquisitive fingers, as if daring her to reach for it and slip it off his unseen eyes. âNo, maâam. Itâs a combat visor. I can take it off if I want to... Iâm not sure what they created you for, but would you still want to exist if you didnât have a purpose?â
xcoriateâ:
âAnd alien machines arenât people, how exactly? Donât be so goddamn pretentious, you kill shit, I kill shit, itâs exactly the same.â
The boy next to him felt so alive. He seemed much more alive than Shigaraki at least, who considered himself a corpse that just kept walking around out of sheer spite if nothing else. Shigaraki could hear whirring and tiny noises from 9S that reminded him of his mechanical nature, but Shigaraki was already looking at him like he was human. Shigaraki was used to seeing humanity in the weirdoes and outcasts anyway.Â
Five fingers. It would be so easy to disintegrate 9S, but he doesnât. He just holds onto him, lightly, gingerly. âWhat would make me feel better? Nothing, thatâs why I just want everyone to leave me the fuck alone. They should all just die.â Shigaraki said, harshly, and then in a much softer voice. His eyes were a little like 9sâs, they both looked⌠so childish.Â
âWhy arenât you worried about what would make yourself feel better, you dumb piece of shit robot?âÂ
âI donât think youâd say that if you saw them.â More often than not, it felt like a mercy, putting down something that had long forgotten its reason for being. Something so confused about its own existence that it begged for mercy even as it flailed at him with its dull weapons.Â
9S even breathes like a human would, softly audible over the noises of the street, the chatter of people walking by, amid the quiet hum of his internal workings. Something that could be chalked up to his predecessors needing to seem more human, to fool the souls nesting inside them, something that had simply been copied over when the template was changed to something more focused on combat. Perhaps. Who could say.Â
This human, this boy, he was sort of like the machine lifeforms, trying his hardest to hack away at 9Sâs armor, not knowing why he was compelled to do so, only driven by some hurt inside him, festering like an untreated wound. Thatâs what 9S was picking up, anyway. So alike to something so alien. He wonders what it means. âHow I feel doesnât matter. Is that really what you want? To be left alone?â He asks. âYou didnât have to talk to me. You could have ignored me, and I never would have said anything to you at all. Iâm sorry I canât commiserate with you, but I donât want to lie to you either...â
