it’s not uncommon for cater to approach you all of a sudden one day, a chenya-like grin on his face as he tries to rope you into some clickclack trend with him for the views and likes. the amount of times the both of you have gone viral online just proves how effective his persuasion methods are; after all who can say no to a face like cater diamond’s? you’d think that as his best friend, you’d have some sort of immunity, but some things would just be too good to be true.
but of all the insane and questionable trends that he had asked you to participate in with him, this is by far the oddest one.
not because of what the trend entails, no, it’s surprisingly one of the most normal and cliche things he’s ever asked you to do with him. and yet, as he tests the audio on his phone, setting it up against the pole of a random streetlamp, you can’t help but stay on your butt in the middle of the road, watching him with your jaw agape.
“are you kidding me?” you laugh as cater beckons you over, “are you actually serious right now, diamond?”
“oh, come on, babe,” cater whines, clearly still tipsy from the shots you had just consumed not even an hour before, “don’t diamond me.”
“don’t babe me then,” you shoot back, wrapping his jacket around you as a breeze passed by. your outfit is much better for clubbing, as your plans for the night were supposed to be, not so much for wandering around the empty streets in late autumn. normally, you would be thankful for the fact that cater adores you enough to take off his own jacket to keep you warm at the cost of his own comfort – pyroxene-born your ass, even a blind person would be able to tell just how cold he is from how his teeth chatter so loudly whenever he stands still for too long – but normal is anything but having just confessed your love to your best friend for who knows how long, while under the influence of alcohol, and while the both of you understand each other well enough to know that your drunk words are simply sober thoughts.
“why not?” he has the audacity to pout at you, as if your relationship wasn’t on the line at this very moment.
“cater,” you say seriously, “we just confessed our love to each other even though it’s quite clear that neither of us are in a healthy enough mindset to be in a relationship with anyone, let alone each other, and now you’re telling me to take part in a couples trend with you?”
your best friend (or could you even call him that anymore now that the truth has come to light?) just shrugs, as this is the most casual thing to happen to him in his entire life, “coping mechanisms, am i right?”

Ace:
He gets mad at you for being sick, regardless of the fact that it’s literally not your fault. And by mad, of course, I mean he’s whiny. Really whiny.
Like you’re the one who’s sick here?? Shouldn’t you be the pathetic one right now??
He’s literally draped along your bed, talking and talking about aaaaall the things he wants to do when you’re better, since you selfishly decided to get sick at the exact time he was totally going to invite you to do this or that. Totally.
He absolutely refuses to leave your side though. You have to call Deuce and ask him to drag Ace to class, because as far as Ace is concerned, if you’re skipping class then he is too. Sort of a “No no no, you’re not sick--we are sick” mentality.
As for usefulness, he’s pretty mediocre. He can heat up some soup in the microwave and ask his housewarden for advice, but really the most useful thing about him is that he’ll bully you into drinking enough water, bully you into getting proper rest, affectionately pestering you into getting better as soon as possible.
You being sick honestly kind of freaks him out; he’s used to your fiery quips and vivacious personality, so seeing you in such a weak state is just… not what he’s used to. You’ll find he’s actually quite clingy when you’re sick, enough so that he’ll be the one asking to hold onto you. He’s not too concerned about getting sick—whatever virus you have, he can just bully it away! Besides, he’s too hot to get sick—you think so too, right Prefect? Right? He knew you’d agree—so now, cuddle time.
He’s useless, but he makes being sick almost fun. You’re going to miss all that one-on-one Ace time when you’re better—then again, the clinginess doesn’t seem like it’s gonna fade anytime soon.
Deuce:
The first thing Deuce does upon hearing that you're sick is call his mom. It's not like he relies on her advice for everything per se, but she took such good care of him as a kid and he wants to do a good job taking care of you too!
This sweetheart will do absolutely anything you ask of him. You want Mostro Lounge food? He's on it--he already knows your regular order, don't worry. You want Jamil's cooking? Sure, he doesn't mind asking. You want to borrow his hoodie? No problem, he'll just run to Heartslabyul real quick. He's in the track club you know, so don't worry about tiring him out. He just wants you to feel better.
If you're not the type to know what you want, he's going to end up being just as lost and confused as you. He's earnest and sweet but he really needs some guidance when it comes to caretaking.
Knowing your best friends, Ace just might tell Deuce some far-fetched way of helping you feel better (as a prank of course), and Deuce is going to be the guy to believe him wholeheartedly. If Deuce starts waving inanimate objects or insisting you eat some disgusting nonsense, you'll know right away who is at fault.
He's also most likely to catch whatever you have out of all your Heartslabyul friends. Germs don't really freak Deuce out, and he's almost reckless with the way he's constantly peering in your face, putting a hand on your head, or grabbing your hands. He's just trying to check on you! It's almost like he's forgotten diseases can spread. Oh well, you'll just have to give him a gentle reminder now and again.
Sure he's one of your chaotic best friends, but Deuce is super reliable and considerate when you need him to be. If he's the one taking care of you while you're sick, you can rest assured that no harm or chaos will come your way--you can just worry about getting better, because Deuce has your back.
Riddle:
He’s almost offended when he hears you’re sick, and his first instinct is to play the blame game.
Not you, of course! He knows you would never do anything so reckless unprompted, however, a certain Heartslabyul duo might not be so innocent…
As soon as he’s at your dorm, he’s grilling you in that huffy, almost parental voice of his. Has anyone cooked for you recently? Do you know anyone else that’s been sick? Did Ace and Deuce drag you out into the rain again? You know there’s a rule about that, right?
Once he gets over his initial frustration (he’s probably still secretly suspecting Ace and Deuce of getting you sick, even if you swear they hadn’t done anything), he moves on to taking care of you in the most practical way possible.
Riddle will hesitate to do a single thing for you unless he runs it by at least three credible sources first. He’s looking stuff up on his phone with one hand and flipping through a medical textbook with the other, using your own phone to call Trey and ask him about soups and snacks that would be gentle on your stomach.
Unfortunately, when it comes to the emotional downsides of being sick, Riddle's just awkward. He can sympathize if you feel frustrated over a temporary lack of productivity, but his dependence on practicality leads him into believing that if you’re physically better, your mood will return as well, so he directs all his focus into fixing that. He's not much for entertainment.
This logical side also makes him refuse to be too cuddly with you, even though a simple pout from you is nearly enough to shatter him. He doesn’t want to get sick either, but he will pet your hair or hold your hand if you need that kind of affection (don’t be offended if he sanitizes his hands immediately after though)
Overall he’s a logical caretaker, but it’s his love for you that drives him to put forth so much effort! Definitely not a bad person to rely on.
Cater:
He literally does not know what to do with his life once you get sick. He's so used to just being near you whenever he can, and since he also has to abide by the ever-strict Heartslabyul schedule, it usually takes the form of him dragging you to Heartslabyul to help him prepare for unbirthday parties, or for a random study session, or whatever other excuse he has up his sleeve.
Now he can't drag you places and it's killing him!
Of course he's going to try to take care of you--and you know what? You picked the right person because Cater can run errands and stay by your side all at once. Split Card, remember? Get ready for some super-helpful Cater clones!
He soon learns that he kind of likes spoiling you while you're sick. It slows him down a little, and it gives him some peace being able to just sit with you with no pressure to entertain or plan things.
He's most likely out of the Heartslabyul crew to buy you things that have nothing to do with being sick, just to cheer you up. He'll bring you plushies, accessories, mugs, candles--just simple things to make you smile!
He's actually not that clueless when it comes to what you need though. He's going to make sure you're hydrated, rested and fed, and if you get fussy about it he's just going to have to use his flirty charisma to get you to take care of yourself! Don't underestimate his ability to lighten your mood!
If being sick turns you into a cuddle bug, he'll indulge you, but not without boundaries. If he gets sick, then it's going to take even longer for you guys to do something fun again! You understand, don't you?
All in all, Cater is pretty well-rounded when it comes to taking care of you. He knows what you need for a quick recovery and won't let you skip out on taking proper care of yourself, but in the meantime, he's going to brighten your day in any way he can.
Trey:
It goes without saying that the first thing Trey does when he hears you're sick is make you something to eat--except as a responsible older brother, he already knows what's good to eat and what's not when it comes to being sick, so he'll have to stray from his typical sugary go-to's.
Trey's unique magic actually comes in handy with this. He'll make sure you're eating and drinking the best things for your body, but all you have to do is say the word and he'll make it taste like whatever you want. He doesn't mind using his magic to entertain you a little either--it's a pretty handy spell and even he hasn't explored everything there is to do with it, so go ahead and throw out suggestions and he'll try to make it happen. Just for fun, you know? Why not.
One perk to having Trey take care of you is that he'll also take care of your idiots--er, your friends. He knows you feel a sense of responsibility when it comes to Grim, Ace and Deuce (just take the anemone incident for example), so while you're down for the count he promises to make sure they'll stay out of trouble. Grim can be bribed with food and Ace and Deuce respect him enough that it shouldn't be an impossible task.
There's just something dreamlike about having Trey take care of you. He speaks to you in such a soft voice, always greets you with that gentle-natured smile, and just... takes the stress away. He's reliable, responsible, and someone you can trust with no hesitation. Frankly, it's almost like a little vacation for you, not having to worry about everything that you usually do.
He's also a little romantic about it--you know, just a little. If you're not feeling well enough to do the things you typically enjoy, he'll happily sit there at your bedside and read you stories, or stroke your hair, or whatever else he can do (probably don't ask him to sing for you, though--he's not so good at that).
Trey's definitely the least chaotic when it comes to you being sick. He does his best to make sure everything is peaceful for you, and the way he takes care of you so gently and dedicatedly just melts your heart!
