# MYTHSBLUD .

the battle in sinclair's head had instantly been replaced by something else in river's presence, something....comforting, as if she...she was that soft place to land they never knew they'd been looking for their whole life. as if she is the only one who understood this pain, who knew how to take it away. it was as if she was...shadow?

before the name could even leave their lips, theirs was said in return by the other, and the worry in her expression brings a feeling of concern for them, along with it was confusion, coming with the terms of she and the feline who knew how to take it all away, as they would always say whenever she has them hold her. the assumption quickly cements into the truth though, as they've quickly processed just how she's said their name. they didn't want to acknowledge it yet, as they want to question it. ask her.

so it was on tuesday then! tabitha smiled to herself, her time had not been wasted after all! - “ that’s perfect actually! you caught me just in time. ” - the thought of getting mad at her didn’t even cross her mind. she finally had an answer to what had been bugging her for days!

if anything, she felt giddy. tattooing was her favorite thing. - “ can you please remind me what you want tattooed? i know i have the sketch somewhere but i cannot recall which one it is. ” - she sat back down and took out her current sketchbook - “ here, sit next to me. ”

it was said absentmindedly, but it felt… odd. her words felt heavy in a way, like she had talked with a mouthful of honey. ughhh, why does that keep happening. - “ so, your tattoo ” - okay, seems to be back to normal. everything is fine tabitha, must be a side effect from... that thing. probably connected to the gills! the mermaid topic still made her uneasy, so she always maturely decided to ignore it and hope she was right. ( she was not ). - “ my mind is saying it was nature-themed but i could be fully wrong. ”

               there  is  relief  at  first,  when  tabitha  answers,  when  she  doesn’t  seem  at  all  irritated  in  the  face  of  her  …  slip.  then  there’s  something  else,  as  she  drops  her  bag  on  a  nearby  couch  along  with  her  plaid  shirt  and  gets  ready  to  answer  the  question.  it  is  strong,  stronger  than  her  and  her  magic  that  immediately  vibrates  to  protect  her  as  she  is  beckoned  to  the  tattoo  artist.  it  isn’t  fruitful,  however,  her  magic’s  attempts   —   she  obeys  like  a  marionette  and  finds  herself  sitting  on  the  spot  right  by  tabitha’s  side  in  the  blink  of  an  eye.     “  whoa,  wait,  i  was  gonna  sit  anyway,  you  didn’t  have  to  use  your  special  thing  or  anything.  ”     river  jokes,  a  nervous  habit,  a  some - weird - shit - is - happening  coping  mechanism.  she’s  quickly  distracted  by  a  new  question,  though,  and  her  attention  is  brought  to  the  thing  that’s  been  getting  her  excited  for  the  past  two  weeks.     “  oh,  right !   yes.  it’s  the  ivy  net  i  asked  to  get  on  my  back.  ”     she  had  been  torn  between  getting  it  on  her  back  or  to  fill  the  spaces  between  the  tattoos  on  her  arms,  but  the  desire  to  start  occupying  other  parts  of  her  body  with  inked  art  had  won.     “  i  got  the  idea  a  while  ago,  but  wasn’t  feeling  brave  enough  until,  well,  that  day  i  booked  the  appointment.  ”

⁽ ⠀ ✶ ⠀ ⁾ ⠀ ⠀ — ⠀ ⠀ a negative state of emotion can never last long when river is nearby.  yejide can't help but mirror the beaming smile that she receives,  cheeks hurting a bit at the effort.  when did they become so sad and how can they blame this on vampirism?  it's become this month's excuse for everything;  they were willing to run it into the ground if given the chance.

               two  things  are  true  in  her  current  scenario:  one,  she  had  lied  (  of  course  she  knows  what  compressions  are  ),  and  two,  jeyide  is  right.  but  that,  considering  it  was  often  the  case  with  them,  is  not  truly  a  surprise.  hence,  she  allows  herself  to  be  guided,  smiles  amusedly  when  yejide  cracks  his  knuckles,  pays  the  utmost  attention  to  the  instructions  with  a  furrowed  brow—  she  can  do  this,  she’s  good  at  learning,  and  hey,  she  doesn’t  have  to  practice  on  another  human,  yay !   or  at  least,  that’s  what  she  tells  herself  when  she  starts  getting  nervous  as  her  knees  touch  the  ground  and  her  hands  the  dummy.

"River Jenkins you are a hero bearhold needs." He said in an expasperated but very grateful tone. Truthfully he was really bad at this blind date stuff. "Deal." He said standing up quickly. Reed took out a sticky note and ten dollar bill, despite not ordering.

"Okay I think that's everything." He said taking his keys out. He threw in the air before catching them. "You got a gps?"

               the  slight  exasperation  in  his  tone  makes  her  chuckle,  a  bit  of  arrogance  in  the  casual  shrug  that  moves  her  shoulders.     “  honestly,  i  am  a  hero,  rescuing  poor  knights  in  danger  of  humiliation  or  boredom.  or  both.  ”     pleased  with  his  agreement,  river  claps  her  hands  enthusiastically  and  lets  out  a  small  shriek  that  attracts  the  attention  of  a  few  commensals,  something  she  couldn’t  care  less  about.  then,  as  she  reads  the  note  he  leaves,  a  soft  smile  grazes  her  countenance  because,  despite  how  amused  his  galantry  makes  her,  the  act  also  warms  her  heart.     “  i  do  have  a  gps,  yes,  ”     she  replies  immediately,  walking  out  of  the  restaurant.     “  but  i  don’t  think  we’ll  need  it   —   i  know  the  way  by  heart.  ”

               river  shrugs,  not  disinterested  but  relaxed.     “  it’s  okay,  it  was  nothing,  really.  ”     she  replies,  nodding  with  a  smile  at  nova’s  approval.  she  moves  to  a  wall  then,  ready  to  be  silent  and  unnoticeable  as  both  do  their  respective  jobs.     “  no,  posing  it’s  not  necessary.  just  do  whatever  you  have  to  do  and  i’ll  take  natural  photos  of  this  lecture.  ”

marisela  wrapped  her  cardigan  tighter  around  her  body  as the  cool  evening  air  nipped  at  her  skin. “sombra!”  she  called  out  in  frustration  from  her  front  porch.  her  black  cat  had   slipped  out  earlier,  and  she’d  been  combing  the  neighborhood  for  any  sign  of  her.  a  few  minutes  passed  when  she  spotted  a  familiar  set  of  glowing eyes  peeking  out  from  behind  a  bush.  marisela  knelt  down,  whispering  coaxing  words,  her  moves slow  and  deliberate  before  she  quickly  scooped  up  the  small,  sleek  form.  “gotcha,  you  little  sneak!”  marisela  muttered,  rising  back  to  her  feet  and  heading  back  inside  the  house.  once  indoors,  marisela  set  the  cat  down  gently,  closing  the door  and  locking  it  with  a  soft  click.  “what  were  you  thinking  running  off  like  that?  you  could’ve  gotten  hurt!”  marisela  scolded  lightly,  her  tone  warm  but  firm  as  she  knelt  down  to  scratch  sombra  behind  the  ears.  she  rose  and  turned  back  to  the  kitchen,  calling  out  as  she  went “come on, let’s get you some dinner.”

               the  experiences  river  has  had  in  her  cat  form  have  always  been  worth  to  tell  (  or  at  least,  most  of  them  )   —   she  often  scares  superstitious  people  when  she  crosses  them,  is  able  to  sleep  in  the  stranges  but  also  the  most  beautiful  places,  listening  to  conversations  that  don’t  concern  her,  and  the  list  goes  on.  however,  this  is  a  first.  being  taken  in  soft  arms  and  led  into  an  strange  house  is  something  that  has  never  happened  before  (  apparently,  her  and  a  cat  called  sombra  are  very  alike  ),  so  she  waits  until  she’s  on  the  floor  and  the  woman  turns  around  to  go  back  to  her  human  form.  only  a  soft  woosh  gives  away  her  transformation.     “  sombra  is  already  home,  sleeping  in  the  closet,  ”     she  informes,  unbothered,  and  unceremoniously  flops  down  on  the  couch.     “  but  if  that  food  isn’t  cat  food,  i’ll  gladly  accept  it.  ”

               river  shakes  her  head,  her  soft  smile  still  perched  on  her  features,  whatever  she  was  talking  about  was  of  no  importance,  not  in  the  face  of  mavi’s  unease.     “  well,  i  just  ended  up  punching  him  and  they  kicked  me  out  of  the  bar.  ”     she  shrugs,  giving  little  importance  to  the  event.  there  was  a  more  pressing  matter  to  approach.     “  but  look,  it  doesn’t  matter.  you  know  …  it’s  okay  if  you  don’t  wanna  talk  about  it,  but  …  you  have  to  know  i’m  here  if  you  do  because  i  just—  i  can  feel  you’re  not  okay.  ” 

idle fingers traced at the blushed petals lining its lengthy stem, tracing the heart-shaped outlines of its flowers. a feat of nature, surely proof of souls resting more than just within mankind, but in the brush, too. manon figured they might as well get out today, as local weather reporters forecasted an upcoming autumn gloom approaching the upper quadrant of washington state — nothing foreign, nor unexpected, yet still it invoked a deep, internal sigh within them. the turning of the season brought out a new side of manon, perhaps its newness prompted a sense of urgency, pecking at their brain to seek the comfort only soothed by the warmth of companionship before everyone turned to reclusion, so as to not constantly shovel snow from the pavement. " bleeding heart. " they muttered, half to themselves, half to the person now caught in the crossfire of her attention. " — the flowers. they're - they're called that. colloquially, at least. there's a story about how they first bloomed. such a sad story about something so beautiful. " a shrug. " do you ... do you like flowers ? "

i really need to start writing down stuff. Tabitha walked faster, and cursed. never a good idea to rely only on memory, and a worse idea if its hers. Someone had booked a 9 o'clock tattoo appointment at Eternal Ink with her, she knew this. There was only one essential detail she might have forgotten immediately after confirming the session and hanging up the phone

was the session booked for tuesday or thursday?

she would not be taking any chances though! ( losing her job was not an option ) So there she was, tuesday morning at Eternal Ink. no one else there but the mermaid, herself, preparing the tattooing area

if no one arrives between now and 9:30 asking for me, the appointment is on Thursday. she repeated this thought in her head a few more times, just in case. Tabitha made herself comfortable in the parlor’s old sofa and took out from her bag a small book. she had recently decided to develop a reading habit after taking a liking to the term bookworm

9:07, followed by 9:14, and then 9:28. Thursday it is then. Tabitha closed the book and stood up. Should I go back home?, I have some free time right now, but I don’t -- Her train of thought was suddenly interrupted by someone stepping into the shop

               despite  how  distracted  river  jenkins  could  be,  how  oblivious  on  most  occasions,  she  was  a  responsible  person.  never  running  late,  never  delivering  after  a  deadline,  never  declining  a  job  for  the  sheer  lack  of  desire.  yet  to  every  rule,  there  was  an  exception,  and  today  of  all  days,  river  jenkins  was  running  late.                 worry  etched  on  her  features,  brows  furrowed  above  her  pleading  eyes,  her  breath  was  ragged  and  her  forehead  kissed  by  beads  of  sweat  when  she  stepped  into  the  shop,  the  palms  of  her  hands  finding  their  home  on  her  knees  as  she  tried  to  recover  from  her  run.     “  i’m  sorry,  i’m  sorry.  i  know  the  appointment  said  nine,  but  i—  ”     she  wasn’t  going  to  lie,  she  was  not  that  kind  of  person.  river  straightens  then,  sighing,     “  i  overslept,  honestly,  and  by  the  time  i  woke  up  i  was  already  late.  ”     that’s  why  her  hair  was  still  dripping  and  she  had  a  quick  oatmeal  breakfast  tucked  into  her  bag.     “  please  tell  me  i  can  still  get  my  tattoo,  i’ve  been  waiting  forever  for  it.  ”

⁽ ⠀ ✶ ⠀ ⁾ ⠀ ⠀ — ⠀ ⠀ maybe it was her fault for hosting a learn about cpr event on a weekday night.  a grand total of three people showed up,  two of which are a pair of teenagers giggling in the corner,  a phone passed between them.  the third seems to be enjoying a short nap in the corner.  approaching footsteps call her attention,  and yejide waves the newcomer over.     "hey,  wanna try some compressions?"     yejide taps the shoulder of the cpr dummy laying on the table nearest her.

               if  there  was  something  river  loved  to  do,  that  was  learning.  she  was  never  good  with  academics,  and  her  grades  had  often  been  just  good  enough  to  pass,  but  gaining  knowledge  outside  of  an  oppressive  classroom ?   appealed  to  her  more  than  anything.  hence,  the  moment  she  heard  about  the  cpr  event  she  changed  the  counter  at  the  garrison  and  the  usual  beer  she  had  at  the  end  of  the  day  for  a  lesson  in  how  to  save  life,  not  a  second  thought  about  it.
