Soot tags gather after fires in areas with low circulation. They are not, as commonly believed, ash covered spider webs.

Because they’re formed by static electricity, they can only be removed with professional chemicals and equipment. Attempting to remove them improperly will only break the chain before all the soot can be captured, leaving the remaining soot to spontaneously reform the webs later. Even worse, trying to wipe or wash them away can firmly adhere the soot to your wall or ceiling, which will permanently stain it.

And like, I dunno, maybe it isn’t about disrespecting those who died but refusing, for any number of reasons, to be a part of the governmental hallmark industry that has built up around it.

Because they grew up in a post-9/11 society, all they’ve ever known is mass violence and distrust of everything. Kids expect a plane to crash into a building, a truck bomb to go off at a big event, a student shooting up a school. And they’ve just got to deal with it and keep moving on or they won’t survive.

We aren't living those times any longer, this is how we live. It's a cold reality to wake up to... Yet I do think the hope we have for more peaceful times isn't a waste. And things weren't so good in the "good old days" any fucking way. Happiness isn't "out there" and maybe the state of the world is a constant reminder of that fact. Maybe the younger generation will discover they can't rely on the stability of the outside world for a false sense of peace... Stability and peace come from within.
