“I do not want to know,” I said adamantly to Natasha.
“Honey you’ve waited too long to say that. Just do it, dammit!” Natasha yelled, pushing me into the ladies’ bathroom as if I were a ragdoll. I mean, if I was pregnant, which I definitely am not, she should not be pushing me around! As I’m pushed into the bathroom wall, Wanda hands me the pregnancy test box, but I refuse to take it.
“Girls enough!” I shout, panicked I squat down on the ground clutching my legs into myself.
Natasha is suddenly next to me. “Honey, it’s better to know than not. You can figure out what to do once you know,” she says way more calm then I could ever be if the roles were reversed. Looking at Wanda, Nat turns back to me, “we will be right here if you need us. It’s just a simple yes or no,”
“Fine!” I jump up for my upright fetal position, yeh I know ironic, and I head into the bathroom stall.
“It’s just a stick, maybe a line,” Wanda says in her smooth calm-inducing voice.
“Just one hopefully,” I grumble.
After a couple of minutes, I come out of the stall and basically throw the stick at Natasha. “Hey! Watch where you throw the stick covered in your piss!” I ignore her and sigh.
“How did I ever get myself in this mess!” I yell up to the heavens.
“What happened?” asked Wanda.
“Just a drunk night and the fucking red dress!”
Wanda let out an immense gasp sacring Natasha and me. “ Oh! But I love that red dress. I love the way it sparkles and it kinda looks like Dorothy Hamill’s ice skatin’ outfit,”
“Dawn,” Natasha and I both groan.
“Oh, sorry,” she hushed, but then her eyes got big again. “Maybe he’s broken!” she exclaimed. We looked at her with befuddlement as she quickly continued talking. “Maybe his boys don’t swim, you know, miraculously,” she declared, trying to sound convincing.
“Yeah it’s a miracle,” Natasha replied sarcastically. Throwing her hands up in the air she continued, “To get away with unprotected fucking, lucky you,”
As Nat spoke I started to zone out. I’m not pregnant. I’m not pregnant. I’m not pregnant. I keep chanting that mantra in my head because I can’t be pregnant, I can’t. But what if I am? And with that, that’s where I spiral again.
“How can one night ruin my whole life,” I start to sob, Wanda wraps her arms around me as Nat takes my hands as she says, “ you can’t go there yet, we don’t know what the test says,”
“But I’m already PANICKED!”
“Calm down, goddammit!” Nat screamed shaking me. Then I hear Wanda’s calm voice.
“Maybe it’ll all be fine, it’ll just be one line,”
After everyone took a few deep breaths Wanda spoke up. “Wait I thought you didn’t sleep with your husband anymore,”
“Well I don’t but he got me drunk on some wine coolers and I do stupid things when I’m drunk,” I explain wringing my hand nervously while I fidget.
“What like sleep with your husband,” Nat said.
“This will all be alright”
“That means the test is ready, this is it,”
I slowly pick up the stick, and as I take a deep breath I look.
