And now I see this movie is from 1998, and I can't stop marveling at how old all the tech is. But just using Photoshop, was apparently SUPER IMPRESSIVE in 1998. lol

But the sad thing is rewatching this clip and realizing that Isabelle could have just put the guy in a suit, on-set, and done everything in-camera. Would have saved so much more time and lowered the risk of uncanniness from overworked digital post production. But I guess in 1998, people didn't realize yet, how terrible CGI and too much post production could look.

I'm so glad that in 2026, we've returned to trying to do as much in-camera as possible. And now we have movies like Project Hail Mary, using a physical puppet for Rocky.

Though, being active in figure photography, where digital post-production effects are extremely common, I'm aware that I try to do everything in-camera, because I'm very bad at post production. I can fool a lay person, but I'm sure anyone who has also taken digital photography classes would find my work uncanny.
