Derek's brow furrowed as he nudged Spencer with his elbow, his eyes fixated on the scene unfolding before them. "Whoa, whoa, whoa, pretty boy," Derek said, his voice laced with concern and disbelief. "Isn't that your girlfriend?"
Spencer's gaze followed Derek's, landing on you. There you were, seated at a cozy table in the dimly lit restaurant, your laughter ringing out as you leaned closer to the person across from you. The person who was most definitely not Spencer. His heart tightened in his chest as he watched you, the familiarity of your smile now directed at someone else, someone who wasnât him.
"Not anymore," Spencer replied, his voice flat, though a subtle tremor betrayed the emotions he was fighting to keep under wraps. He forced himself to look away, focusing on a random spot on the wall instead of the painful image of you with someone new.
Derek shot him a sideways glance, his brow still creased with confusion. "What? I thought you two were solid?" His tone was cautious, as if he was treading on fragile ground.
Emily, who had been silent up until now, leaned in, her eyes filled with a mix of surprise and sympathy. "The operative word there being âwereâ?" she asked gently, seeking confirmation.
Spencer gave a small, almost imperceptible nod. "Yeah," he said, his voice barely above a whisper. "Things changed."
For a moment, there was a heavy silence between them, the weight of the situation sinking in. Derek and Emily exchanged a look, both of them unsure of how to respond. They had seen Spencer go through so much, and this seemed like another cruel twist of fate.
Finally, Derek let out a sigh, clapping a reassuring hand on Spencer's shoulder. "You know we're here for you, right? Whatever you need, man."
Emily nodded in agreement, her eyes soft with understanding. "You donât have to go through this alone, Spencer. Weâre your family."
Spencer offered them a small, appreciative smile, but it didnât quite reach his eyes. "Thanks," he said quietly, his gaze once again drifting to where you sat, laughing and unaware of the turmoil just a few tables away.Â
The sight was like a dagger to his heart, but he forced himself to look away again, determined not to let his emotions get the better of him. He had to be strong, even if it felt like the ground beneath him was crumbling away.
Spencer didn't feel like he deserved the comfort his friends were providing him currently, he was the one who ruined things between the two of you.Â

Six months ago...
You stood in your small kitchen, the phone pressed to your ear as you listened to the familiar, upbeat tone of Penelope Garcia. "Beautiful tech genius speaking, how may I help you, gorgeous?" she answered, her voice as bright as ever. It was her way of bringing a bit of lightness into every conversation, and usually, it worked. But today, despite the warmth in her greeting, you couldn't shake the tightness in your chest.
"Hey, Pen," you responded, forcing a laugh even though your heart felt like it was being squeezed. The words tasted bitter as you prepared to ask the question you had grown to hate. "Is Spencer busy right now?"
You loathed asking that question. It had become a routine, a ritual almost, to call Penelope and ask about Spencerâs whereabouts because he hadnât bothered to tell you himself. It was embarrassing, really, that you had to rely on his colleague to know what your own boyfriend was up to. The person he should have been sharing his life with.
There was a slight pause on the other end, and then you heard itâthe pity in Penelope's voice that you dreaded so much. "Oh, honey," she said softly, her tone drenched in sympathy. "The team left a few hours ago on a case."
"Oh," you managed to say, but your voice cracked, betraying the tears that were already threatening to spill over. You sniffled, trying to keep it together, but the ache in your chest only grew sharper. "Can you tell me where they went?"
"Yeah, sweetie, theyâre in Kansas," Penelope replied gently, and you could almost feel her reaching out to hug you through the phone.
"Thanks, Pen," you whispered, your throat tight as you fought to keep the tears at bay.
"Of course, take care, okay?" Penelope's concern was evident, but there was nothing she could do from where she was. She had seen too much to offer false hope, but she still cared enough to try to comfort you in any way she could.
You hung up, standing there in the silence of your kitchen, the reality of the situation washing over you like a cold wave. It had been like this for a couple of months nowâSpencer leaving without a word, not feeling the need to let you know when he and the team were swept away on a case. The man who once called you just to say goodnight was now a distant figure, more involved in his work than in your relationship.
The last time you had confronted him about it, his response had cut deeper than you ever expected. âWeâve been together for over a year, Y/N. Do you not trust me? Why do you have to be on top of me constantly?â His words echoed in your mind, the memory still fresh and painful.
âSpencer⌠I just like to know where you are and that youâre safe," you had explained, your voice tinged with desperation as you tried to make him understand. "What if something happens to me or you, or someone we love, and I donât know where you are or how to get a hold of you?â
But instead of understanding, Spencer had just looked at you with frustration in his eyes, as if your concerns were an inconvenience to him. âI donât understand why you need to know where I am 24/7,â he had said, his tone dismissive.
And so it had continuedâthis growing distance between you, each day a little more painful than the last. Now, as you stood there with tears slipping down your cheeks, you couldnât help but wonder if this was how it would always be. If the man you loved was slipping away, and there was nothing you could do to stop it.
â
PresentÂ
To anyone watching, you and your date looked like the picture of a perfect evening. The two of you sat across from each other at a small, candlelit table in the charming bistro, the flickering glow casting warm, soft shadows over your faces. You smiled at all the right moments, nodded thoughtfully as they spoke, and even laughed at their jokes. The waiter who passed by with a tray of desserts might have thought you were a couple deeply engrossed in each other, enjoying the bliss of a night out.
But inside, you felt nothing. It was as if a thick, impenetrable wall had gone up around your heart, leaving you detached from everything that was happening. You went through the motionsâsmiling, nodding, making polite conversationâbut it was all a performance, a carefully crafted facade that hid the emptiness gnawing at you from within.
Your date was saying something funny, and you forced another laugh, just loud enough to seem genuine. They smiled back, clearly pleased with themselves, and you returned the gesture with a bright, practiced smile. You knew how to do thisâhow to pretend everything was fine, how to play the role of someone who was fully engaged in the moment. But underneath that polished exterior, you were numb, a hollow shell left behind after months of emotional exhaustion.
The memory of Spencer loomed large in your mind, a constant, oppressive presence that wouldnât leave you alone. His cold words, his dismissal, the way he had slowly pushed you out of his life until you were left with nothing but your own lonelinessâit all haunted you, a shadow you couldnât escape. And now, sitting here with someone who was kind and attentive, you realized how far away you still were from truly moving on.
Your date reached across the table, lightly touching your hand, and you didnât flinch. Instead, you smiled softly and let your fingers curl around theirs, mimicking the gesture of affection as if it were second nature. They seemed to take comfort in it, their face lighting up with hope, and you felt a pang of guilt for leading them on, even though it wasnât intentional.
You could feel their eyes on you, searching for that connection, that spark that should have been there. But there was nothingâno flutter of excitement, no warmth in your chest, just the cold, empty numbness that had taken up residence in your soul.Â
The conversation continued, your responses automatic and well-practiced, but your mind was elsewhere, trapped in the past, replaying moments you wished you could forget. You knew you should be present, that you should give this person the chance they deserved, but the weight of your own numbness was too much to overcome.
And so the evening went on, the two of you laughing, smiling, and talking, while the truth remained hidden beneath the surface. To anyone watching, it looked like you were having a wonderful time. But only you knew the realityâthat you were just faking it, lost in a world of your own, desperately trying to feel something, anything, but unable to break free from the numb shell Spencer had left behind.

Four months ago...
The tension in the room was thick enough to cut with a knife. You stood in the middle of the living room, your arms wrapped tightly around yourself as if that would somehow shield you from the pain you knew was coming. Spencer was on the opposite side, his posture rigid, his expression a mix of frustration and exhaustion. This wasnât the first argument youâd had recently, but it was certainly the worst.
âSpencer, Iâm not trying to control you!â you pleaded, your voice trembling with the effort to keep your emotions in check. âI just want to know whatâs going on in your life! I want to be a part of it, like I used to be.â
Spencer sighed, running a hand through his hair in a gesture that screamed exasperation. âYou say that, but it feels like youâre suffocating me, Y/N. Every time I turn around, itâs another question about where I am, who Iâm with, what Iâm doing. Itâs too much.â
Your heart clenched at his words, the sting of them cutting deeper than youâd expected. âI just want to feel like I matter to you,â you whispered, tears welling up in your eyes. âLike this relationship still matters to you.â
Spencerâs face softened for a moment, but the frustration was still there, simmering just beneath the surface. âOf course, you matter to me,â he said, though the words lacked the warmth and sincerity you so desperately needed to hear. âBut youâre making this so hard, Y/N. Every time we talk, it turns into an argument.â
âBecause you keep shutting me out!â you shot back, your voice rising despite your efforts to stay calm. âYou donât tell me anything anymore! Iâm the last person to know when youâre leaving, when youâre coming back. Itâs like I donât even exist to you when youâre at work!â
âThatâs not fair,â Spencer replied, his tone growing defensive. âYou know how demanding my job is. I donât have time to check in constantly.â
âIâm not asking for constant check-ins,â you retorted, the frustration bubbling over now. âIâm asking for you to care enough to let me in! To let me know when somethingâs wrong, or when youâre going to be gone for days on end. Iâm your partner, Spencer, or at least I thought I was.â
The silence that followed your words was deafening. Spencer looked away, his jaw clenched, as if he was trying to keep himself from saying something heâd regret. You could see the conflict in his eyes, the battle between wanting to comfort you and wanting to pull away.
Finally, he spoke, his voice low and strained. âMaybe⌠maybe we need some space,â he suggested, each word like a dagger to your heart.
âSpace?â you echoed, the word foreign and terrifying. âYou think thatâs going to fix this?â
âI donât know,â Spencer admitted, his shoulders sagging as if the weight of the world was pressing down on him. âBut I do know that what weâre doing right now isnât working.â
You stared at him, the man you loved more than anything, and felt the ground shift beneath you. This wasnât just an argument; this was the beginning of something you had feared for months. The beginning of the end.
âSpencer,â you began, your voice breaking as the tears finally spilled over, âplease donât do this. We can figure it out, we canââ
âIâm not saying weâre breaking up,â Spencer interrupted, though his tone did little to reassure you. âI just⌠I need to think. I need to figure out whatâs going on with me, with us.â
You nodded, though the movement felt hollow. âOkay,â you whispered, even though every fiber of your being was screaming that it wasnât okay. Nothing about this was okay.
Without another word, Spencer turned and left the room, leaving you standing there, alone, the silence of the apartment pressing in on you like a suffocating weight. You didnât know if you would ever be able to breathe again.
â
PresentÂ
Spencer sat at a table near the back of the bistro, his eyes locked onto you from across the room. The soft hum of conversation and clinking of silverware faded into the background as he watched you laugh, your head tilting slightly as you shared a light moment with your date. Your hand was resting on the table, fingers intertwined with theirs, and the sight sent a sharp, searing pain through his chest, like a hot knife twisting deeper with every second that passed.
Derek and Emily sat on either side of him, their expressions filled with concern as they noticed his focus on you. It hadnât taken long for them to spot you when they walked in, and they had exchanged uneasy glances, silently debating whether or not they should suggest leaving. But Spencer had insisted it was fine, forcing a tight-lipped smile that didnât reach his eyes. Heâd said it didnât bother him, that it was no big deal, but the truth was a far cry from that casual dismissal.
âSpencer,â Emily had whispered, leaning in close so only he could hear, âwe can go somewhere else. Itâs not a problem.â
But Spencer had shaken his head, his gaze never leaving you. âNo, really, itâs fine,â he had replied, his voice steady, though the turmoil inside him was anything but. He needed to see this, to witness how your date went, as if punishing himself by watching you with someone else would somehow make up for the mistakes he had made. Not that heâd admitted that to Derek and Emily. They would never understand the twisted logic he was following, the way he felt like he deserved every ounce of the pain that was currently eating him alive.
It was ironic, really. He had once hated the thought of you tracking his every move, of you wanting to know where he was, who he was with, and what he was doing. It had suffocated him, made him feel like he was being controlled, watched over like a child. But now, here he was, insisting on staying in this very restaurant just to watch you on a date with someone elseâbecause he had pushed you away, because he had been the one to break up with you.
And now, as he watched you smile at someone else, someone who was clearly making you happy, Spencer felt the full weight of his regret crash down on him. He had thought he needed space, thought that pushing you away would give him the clarity he so desperately sought. But instead, all he had done was lose you, and now he was faced with the brutal reality of what that meant.
You looked so radiant as you sat there, the candlelight reflecting off your eyes, your laughter light and genuine as you leaned closer to your date. It was a sound that used to fill his own life with warmth, a sound he had taken for granted. Now, it felt like a distant memory, something he could only watch from afar as someone else got to experience it.
He didnât realize he was gripping his fork so tightly until Derek nudged him, snapping him out of his trance. âYou sure youâre okay, man?â Derek asked, his voice low and cautious, as if he were afraid to push too hard.
Spencer forced himself to nod, though the tightness in his throat made it difficult to speak. âYeah, Iâm fine,â he managed, though the words were hollow. He wasnât fine, not even close, but admitting that would mean facing the depth of his mistake, and he wasnât ready for thatânot yet.
Emily exchanged another worried glance with Derek, but they both respected Spencerâs decision to stay, even if they didnât understand it. They made small talk, trying to distract him, but Spencerâs attention kept drifting back to you. Every time he saw your fingers intertwined with your dateâs, a fresh wave of jealousy and regret washed over him, threatening to drown him in its intensity.
He had never imagined it would feel like this, watching you move on with someone else. The emptiness, the burning jealousy, the sharp pang of regretâit was all more than he had anticipated. And the worst part was that he knew he had no one to blame but himself.
As your date reached out to brush a stray lock of hair behind your ear, the gesture so intimate and tender, Spencer felt something inside him crack. He had once been the one to do that, to touch you like that, to make you laugh like that. And now, he had thrown it all away.
The irony was unbearable. He had been so desperate to keep his freedom, to avoid feeling trapped, and now he was the one imprisonedâimprisoned by the sight of you with someone else, knowing he had made the biggest mistake of his life.
â
Three months agoâŚ
You lay in bed, the phone pressed to your ear as you listened to the familiar, comforting voice on the other end. "Supreme goddess of gadgets, how may I help you?" Penelope answered, her usual cheerfulness evident, though there was a faint hesitation in her tone, as if she already knew what was coming.
"Hey, PenâŚ" Your voice was weak, almost defeated. You could barely muster the energy to speak, the weight of everything crushing you from the inside out.
There was a brief pause before Penelope responded, her voice softer now. "Y/N⌠hi, how are you?" Her question was gentle, cautious, as if she were afraid of what your answer might be.
"Surviving," you replied, the word feeling like a lie even as it left your lips. "Um, you know what Iâm going to ask."
A heavy silence followed your words, the kind that made your heart sink deeper into the pit of despair you had been living in for months. Finally, Penelope spoke, her voice filled with regret. "I do, sweetie⌠He asked me not to tell you anything. Iâm so sorry."
The words hit you like a punch to the gut, knocking the air out of your lungs. You managed to choke out a quick "Thanks, Pen," before you hung up, not wanting her to hear the sob that was already clawing its way up your throat.Â
As soon as the line went dead, you let it outâa heart-wrenching cry that seemed to come from the very depths of your soul. You curled up on your bed, clutching the pillow as if it could somehow hold you together while everything else in your life was falling apart. The tears streamed down your face, hot and relentless, as the reality of your situation washed over you in waves of pain.
Hours later, Spencer came home, his presence filling the room with an unbearable tension. "Space" had ended just last week, but things had not returned to normalâfar from it. He walked in, glanced at you briefly, and his expression was cold, detached, as if he didnât even recognize the woman lying in bed, broken and defeated.
âThis canât continue,â he said, his voice devoid of any warmth or affection. It was a statement, not a question, and you knew he had already made up his mind.
You didnât respond. You couldnât. The numbness had taken over, a merciful shield against the pain that had consumed you for so long. You stared at the ceiling, your eyes glassy and vacant, as if you were no longer truly present in your own life.
Spencerâs next words were like nails in the coffin of your relationship. âYou and me? Done. You calling and checking in on me like Iâm a fucking child? Done. I want you out. This is still my apartment.â
His words hung in the air, each one driving the knife deeper into your heart. But you just nodded, your body moving on autopilot because your mind was too shattered to do anything else. You had known this was coming, had felt it creeping up on you like a dark cloud ready to unleash a storm. But knowing hadnât made it any easier.
Without another word, Spencer turned and left the room, the sound of the door closing behind him echoing in the silence that followed. You didnât move. You didnât cry. You just lay there, feeling as though a part of you had died, leaving behind nothing but an empty shell.
And in that moment, you realized that the person you had once loved more than anything was truly gone, and there was no getting him back.
â
PresentÂ
You stand from the table, your heart heavy and your mind made up. This evening was never going to be what either of you hoped for, and you knew it was time to go home, to retreat into the solitude that had become your only solace. You had no illusions about what the rest of the night would holdâprobably a bottle of wine, more than you should drink alone, and a sad movie to keep you company as you cried over the pieces of your broken heart.
As you turned to push in your chair, your eyes caught sight of somethingâor rather, someoneâthat stopped you cold. There, across the room, was Spencer. His familiar form sat rigid at a table, flanked by Derek and Emily, but it was his eyes that rooted you to the spot. Those eyes that had once brought you warmth and comfort, that had been the anchor in your life, now held an emotion youâd never seen in them before. It was raw, intense, and so deeply conflicted that it sent a shiver down your spine.
For a moment, the world around you faded, and all you could see were those eyesâeyes that had once looked at you with such love, now filled with something else entirely. Regret? Jealousy? Pain? You couldnât quite place it, but it was enough to make your breath hitch in your throat, your heart lurching painfully in your chest.
Before you could think too long about what you were seeing, your date's hand gently rested on your lower back, pulling you back into the present. The warmth of their touch contrasted sharply with the cold, hollow feeling that had settled in your chest. They guided you out of the bistro, their hand steady as they led you toward the door, completely unaware of the storm that had just passed through your mind.
You didnât look back, though every part of you wanted to. The urge to turn around, to meet Spencerâs eyes one more time and maybe, just maybe, understand what was swirling in them, was overwhelming. But you kept moving forward, your body on autopilot as you stepped out into the cool night air, leaving behind the painful memories and the man who had once meant everything to you.
As you walked away, the noise of the city filled the void where your thoughts should have been, but you couldnât shake the image of Spencerâs eyes from your mind. Even as your date tried to engage you in conversation, their words fell on deaf ears. All you could think about was the look in Spencerâs eyes and how, for the first time, you had seen something in them that you hadnât beforeâsomething that made you wonder if he, too, was feeling the sting of the choices he had made.
â
âIâll be back,â Spencer said abruptly, his voice tinged with urgency as he stood up from the table. He didnât wait for a response from Derek or Emily, who exchanged worried glances, their faces mirroring a mix of empathy and concern. They both knew how deeply Spencer had been affected by the breakup, and while they wanted to support him, they werenât sure if following you was the healthiest choice. But Spencer was already moving, weaving through the tables with a determined stride, leaving his friends to watch helplessly as he made his way toward the exit.
Outside, the cool night air hit Spencer like a splash of cold water, sharpening his senses as he scanned the street for you. His heart pounded in his chest, the knot of anxiety tightening with every passing second. Then, he spotted you a short distance away, saying goodbye to your date. The two of you stood under the soft glow of a streetlamp, exchanging polite farewells, and Spencer watched as your date smiled kindly before turning to walk away. The knot in his chest loosened just a fraction, relief mingling with the anxiety that still churned within him.
He knew this was his moment. If he didnât speak to you now, he might never get the chance again. Swallowing the lump in his throat, Spencer took a deep breath and walked toward you, his heart racing as he rehearsed what he would say in his mind. But when he reached you, all those carefully planned words evaporated, leaving him standing there, feeling more vulnerable than he ever had.
âY/N,â he called out, his voice softer than he intended, but it carried enough weight to make you stop in your tracks. You looked up so quickly, your eyes wide with surprise and something elseâsomething that made Spencerâs heart skip a beat. The silence stretched between you, heavy and loaded with everything unsaid.
For a moment, neither of you spoke. You just stood there, stunned, as if you couldnât quite believe he was really there in front of you. The last time you had seen him, it had been under such different circumstances, and now here he was, the same man yet somehow different. The memories of your last encounter flashed through your mind, bringing with them a flood of emotions that threatened to overwhelm you.
âHi,â Spencer tried again, his voice trembling slightly as he searched your face for any sign of how you were feeling. He could see the confusion, the hurt, the questions all swirling in your eyes, but you didnât say anything. You just looked at him, as if you were trying to make sense of why he was standing in front of you now, after all this time.
âCan we talk?â he asked, his tone pleading, as if he were afraid you might turn and walk away before he had the chance to explain himself.
â
A year agoâŚ
âSpencer, stop moving!â you laughed, your voice bubbling with amusement as you tried to steady his hand. He squirmed slightly in his seat, a playful smile tugging at the corners of his lips.
âIt tickles!â he protested, his voice filled with mock indignation as he wiggled his fingers in your grasp.
You chuckled, shaking your head in disbelief. âI donât think you can be tickled on your nails, Spencer. Youâre being dramatic.â
He huffed teasingly, his eyes sparkling with a mischievous glint. âI donât see why you needed to paint my nails,â he said, though there was no real annoyance in his toneâjust the warm affection that always colored your playful moments together.
âBecause,â you replied, focusing on applying the nail polish with care, âI got a new color, and my nails look too pretty to take it off right now. So youâre the lucky volunteer.â
Spencer watched you as you worked, the gentle concentration on your face making his heart swell with warmth. He loved these quiet, silly moments with you, where the world seemed to fade away and all that mattered was the laughter and lightness you brought into his life.
âWell, Iâm honored,â Spencer said with a mockingly serious tone, though his eyes betrayed the laughter he was holding back. âBut what if they look better than yours?â he teased, a playful smirk tugging at his lips.
âThen Iâll have to break up with you,â you teased right back, trying to keep a straight face.
âDonât even joke about that! Iâd die without you!â Spencer exclaimed dramatically, his eyes widening in mock horror.
âOh, shush,â you replied, smiling so big that you thought your heart might burst from how much you loved him.
âIâm serious,â he continued, his voice softening as he looked at you with all the love in the world. âIf they look better than yours, you have to stay with me, despite the jealousy. I love you too much to let you leave.â
Your heart swelled at his words, and you reached out to gently cup his face. âI would never leave you, Spence.â
âDitto,â he said, his voice full of warmth and sincerity.
You leaned in for a sweet, smiley kiss, sealing the promise between you both. It was a kiss filled with love, with the kind of joy that made everything else fade away, leaving just the two of you and the unspoken vow that you would always be there for each other, no matter what.
â
Present
You nodded slowly, still unable to find your voice. The shock of seeing him again, the man who had left you so broken, was enough to leave you speechless. But there was something in his eyes, something raw and vulnerable, that made you pause. Maybe it was the way he was looking at you now, with an intensity you hadnât seen in so long, that made you want to hear him out.
Without another word, Spencer gestured toward a nearby bench, and you followed him silently, your mind still reeling from the unexpected encounter. As you sat down, the distance between you feeling both too close and too far, you wondered what he could possibly say that would change anything. But you knew you had to hear it, whatever it was, because despite everything, a part of you still needed closureâor maybe, deep down, you hoped for something more.
Spencer sat beside you, the tension between the two of you almost tangible as he struggled to find the right words. His mind was a whirlwind of confusion and regret, a chaotic mess that made it nearly impossible to articulate what he was feeling. He hadnât planned for this, hadnât even thought about what he would do if he ever saw you again. He had tried to put you out of his mind, to bury the pain and guilt deep inside, because it was easier than facing what he had done.
But now, sitting next to you, the reality of his actions weighed on him like a heavy stone, and he could see the hurt and anger in your eyes. You were waiting for him to speak, but the silence stretched on, growing more uncomfortable by the second.
Finally, your patience snapped. âWhat do you want?â you asked, your voice sharp and cutting, a clear sign of the anger brewing inside you.
Spencer flinched at your tone, the pain of your words like a physical blow. âI donât know, honestly,â he admitted, his voice weak and uncertain.
âBye,â you said coldly, turning to leave, the finality in your tone making it clear you were done with this conversation.
Panic surged through Spencer, and before he could stop himself, he reached out and grabbed your wrist, desperate to keep you from walking away. âNo, Y/N, wait,â he pleaded, his voice trembling.
But you quickly shook off his touch, anger flaring in your eyes. âYou absolutely do not get to touch me,â you snapped, your voice hard as steel.
âIâm sorry,â Spencer stammered, his hand dropping to his side, feeling the sting of rejection.
âFor touching me or something else?â you demanded, your voice laced with bitterness.
âEverything,â he whispered, his eyes filled with remorse.
You let out a harsh, humorless laugh, the sound bitter in the quiet night air. âWell, since you clearly donât know what to say, let me start,â you said, finding your voice with a strength that surprised even you. Spencer opened his mouth to speak, but you quickly held up your hand, silencing him. âItâs my turn to speak, do not interrupt me.â He nodded, his heart sinking as he braced himself for the words he knew were coming.
âI cared about you, Spencer,â you began, your voice steady but filled with the weight of all the pain you had been carrying. âI thought you cared about me too. All I ever wanted was to be a first thought, but instead, I was an afterthought. Wanting to know when my partnerâand my roommateâwas going to be in a different state doesnât seem like a lot to ask.â
Spencerâs throat tightened as he listened, the truth of your words cutting him to the core. But he knew better than to speak, knew that you deserved this moment to say everything he had never let you say before.
âAnd then,â you continued, your voice growing more intense, âto go and tell your coworkerâsomeone I considered a friendânot to tell me anything about you anymore? God, thatâs so fucking mean, Spencer. You were mean to me.â
You took a deep breath, steadying yourself, proud that you hadnât let the tears fall, even though they were threatening to spill over. âI never once accused you of cheating, or even thought that you were doing anything behind my back,â you said, your voice softer now, but no less filled with hurt. âI didnât ask for constant attention or updates. I didnât yell at you, belittle you, or blame you. All I wanted was for you to care about me. And you didnât.â
Spencer felt the shame wash over him, the weight of your words pressing down on him until he thought he might break. But he stayed silent, letting you continue, because you deserved to have your say.
âAnd yet, you dragged out the end of our relationship instead of having the decency to put me out of my misery,â you said, your voice trembling with the effort to keep your emotions in check. âI wanted to fix thingsâas pathetic as that feels nowâI wanted to work it out with you. But itâs clear now that you always knew the end was coming.â
Spencerâs heart shattered at your words, the realization of how deeply he had hurt you hitting him like a freight train. He had been so wrapped up in his own fears and insecurities that he had never truly considered the impact his actions were having on you. And now, hearing you lay it all out so plainly, he was struck by the enormity of what he had lost.
âY/N,â he began, his voice barely a whisper, but you shook your head, cutting him off once more.
âNo, Spencer,â you said, your voice firm, the strength in it catching him off guard. âI donât need an apology. I needed you to be there when it mattered, and you werenât. So, tell me, why werenât you there?â
The question hung in the air between you, heavy and piercing, demanding an answer that Spencer wasnât sure he could give. He looked at you, seeing the hurt and anger in your eyes, the way you stood there waiting, needing an explanation that could somehow make sense of the pain he had caused.
He swallowed hard, his mouth suddenly dry as he tried to find the words. But how could he explain the mess inside his head, the way his fears and insecurities had twisted everything? How could he tell you that he had been too wrapped up in his own struggles to see what he was doing to you?
âIâŚâ he began, his voice faltering as he searched for something, anything, that would make this right. But nothing came. The excuses he had told himself for so long now felt hollow and pathetic in the face of your unwavering gaze.
âI donât know,â he finally admitted, his voice barely above a whisper. It was the truth, the only thing he could offer. âI was⌠scared. Of losing myself, of losing control. I thought⌠I thought I needed space to figure things out, but all I did was push you away. I wasnât there because I was too wrapped up in my own head to see what I was doing to you.â
You stared at him, the admission doing little to soften the anger that burned in your chest. âYou were scared?â you repeated, incredulity lacing your tone. âAnd you think thatâs an excuse? Spencer, I was scared too. I was terrified of losing you, of watching you slip away without understanding why. But I didnât shut you out. I didnât abandon you when things got tough.â
Spencer felt the weight of your words like a punch to the gut. âI know,â he said, his voice cracking with the weight of his guilt. âI know I failed you. I donât have an excuse, Y/N. I was selfish, and I hurt you. And Iâm so, so sorry.â
But even as he said the words, he knew they werenât enough. They couldnât undo the damage that had been done, couldnât erase the pain he had caused. He had failed you when it mattered most, and now he was standing here, faced with the wreckage of what once was.
You took a deep breath, trying to steady yourself, to keep the tears that were threatening at bay. âSorry isnât enough, Spencer,â you said, your voice softer now, tinged with sadness. âIt wonât change what happened, it wonât bring back the trust that was broken. I needed you, and you werenât there. And now⌠now we both have to live with that.â
Spencerâs heart shattered at your words, the finality in them like a dagger to his chest. He wanted to reach out, to somehow pull you back from the edge, but he knew he had no right. He had lost that right the moment he chose to walk away instead of fighting for what you had.
âI know I donât deserve another chance,â he said, his voice thick with emotion. âBut if I could go back⌠if I could do it all over again, I would. I would be there for you, I would fight for you. Iâd give anything to make it right.â
But you shook your head, the sadness in your eyes cutting deeper than any words ever could. âYou canât go back, Spencer. Neither of us can. We can only move forward.â
âTogether?â he asked, his voice filled with a desperate hope.
âAre you serious?â you replied, incredulity and hurt lacing your tone. With that, you turned and walked away, leaving him standing there alone with the weight of his regrets.
â
A year agoâŚ
You walked into the apartment after an extremely grueling day at work, your body aching for the comfort of the couch and the sweet relief of doing absolutely nothing. As soon as you opened the door, however, you were greeted by the tantalizing aroma of your favorite meal wafting through the air. The familiar scent brought an instant smile to your face, and you couldnât help but follow your nose like a cartoon character, eagerly tracing the delicious smell to the kitchen.
There, you found your adorable boyfriend, Spencer, fussing over pots and pans, his brow furrowed in concentration as he worked to perfect the meal. The sight of him, so intent on making everything just right, made your heart swell with love.
âNeed some help, handsome?â you asked, leaning against the doorway with a soft smile.
Spencer jumped slightly, his concentration momentarily broken. âHuh? What? No! Go sit down, relax, I got this,â he insisted, his voice filled with warmth and determination.
You couldnât help but chuckle at his insistence. âOkay, baby. Thank you,â you said, leaning in to press a gentle kiss to his cheek, which brought a pleased smile to his face.
With that, you made your way to the couch, feeling a wave of gratitude wash over you. Moments later, Spencer joined you, carefully balancing a tray in his hands. On it were two plates of your favorite food, two glasses of wine, and a small bouquet of your favorite flowers. The thoughtful gesture took your breath away.
âSpence⌠what is all of this for?â you asked, your voice tinged with surprise and emotion.
Spencer set the tray down gently and looked at you with those kind, caring eyes that always seemed to see right through to your soul. âYou seemed off when you called earlier,â he explained, his voice soft and full of concern. âI figured you were having a hard day and wanted to treat you.â
Your eyes welled up with happy tears, the overwhelming love you felt for him making your heart flutter. âI love you so much, do you know that?â you whispered, your voice thick with emotion.
Spencerâs face lit up with a playful grin as he teased, âI donât think I do. Can you tell me a hundred more times?â
You giggled, leaning closer to him. âHow about a million?â you offered, your voice filled with sincerity and affection.
Spencerâs smile grew even wider as he leaned in for a sweet, tender kiss. âIâll hold you to that,â he murmured against your lips, and in that moment, all the stress and exhaustion of your day melted away, leaving only the warmth of his love.
â
A month laterâŚÂ
You walked into the coffee shop down the street from your office, savoring the familiar comfort of your Thursday morning routine. It was your little treat to yourself, a pick-me-up to help push you through the final stretch before the weekend. As you stepped inside, the scent of freshly brewed coffee and baked goods enveloped you, instantly soothing some of the residual stress from the workweek.
You were lost in thought, mentally debating whether to stick with your usual order or try something new, when you felt a gentle bump against your shoulder.
âOh, Iâm so sorry, I didnât see you there,â a familiar voice apologized.
You looked up, your heart skipping a beat when you recognized him. âSpencer?â you said, the surprise evident in your voice.
He offered you a small, almost shy smile, as if he were seeing you for the first time. âHello, stranger. My name is Spencer Reid,â he said, extending his hand as if introducing himself to someone he hadnât met before. âIâm terribly sorry I bumped into you. Allow me to buy your coffee?â
You blinked, caught off guard by his playful formality. âWhat are you doing? Did you hit your head?â you asked, unable to keep the curiosity out of your voice.
Spencer shook his head, a hint of mischief in his eyes. âNo, maâam,â he replied, his tone light. âIâm starting fresh. Can only move forward, right?â
âRightâŚâ you echoed, the words resonating with a meaning that made your heart flutter a bit, some of the cobwebs that had gathered around it beginning to fall away. There was something about this new approach of his that caught you off guard, but in a good way, like a breath of fresh air after a long winter.
A small, tentative smile tugged at your lips as you stuck out your hand, playing along. âY/N,â you introduced yourself, feeling a spark of warmth you hadnât expected. âYes, you can buy my coffee. Thank you.â
Spencerâs eyes softened with a mixture of relief and hope as he shook your hand, holding onto it just a moment longer than necessary. âItâs my pleasure,â he said, and for the first time in a long while, you felt a small glimmer of something you thought you had lostâa sense of possibility, of maybe, just maybe, starting anew.

The smell of bacon and toast fills the air even before you step into the kitchen.Â
Aaron is there, scrambling eggs with his shirt still unbuttoned and his hair damp from the shower. He glances up when you step in, already dressed up âDidnât have time to make coffee.â he explains, nodding to the empty coffee pot plugged on the counter behind him. You shake your head, squinting your eyes at his face.
âArenât you at least a little bit embarrassed?â you tease, already starting to brew the coffee beans. It has been almost a year since he bought it â following your suggestion â and he never even cared to learn how to use it. Not that he needed to, really. You were always there to do it for him.
He pressed his lips together in a mocking reflective expression, just to shrug his shoulders âNot really, no.â you just chuckle as the two of you move in sync to finish preparing breakfast.
Just as the eggs were ready, his phone rang all the way to his bedroom. As an old man who still hadnât created the urge to be glued to his phone 24/7, you took over the bacon pan as he faded into the hallway to pick up.
You were so focused on your task you didnât realize he was taking too long. It wasnât until you filled both of your plates and mugs that you noticed he didnât come back. Your first reaction was too tense, to go after him and check what was wrong, but soon after you heard his laugh, loud and strong, making its way towards you. So, no emergencies.
Sensing it was probably Sean, your boyfriendâs brother, or maybe Rossi with a gossip â something you learnt after you started dating Hotch: the two older men at the BAU were gossipers. Penelope Garcia level gossiper â you stayed back, giving them privacy to chat. Ignoring all the etiquette lessons you had, you started eating alone. At least one of you should enjoy the warm food.
Just when you took the last bite you heard him stepping back into the kitchen, a ghost of a smile still present on his face âHey, you chattyâ you teased. He chuckled, sitting beside you on the stoll and drinking a sip of coffee âWho was it?â your curiosity got the best of you, even though you knew he was going to tell you either way.
âBeth!â
Oh.
âOhâ
âYeah.â he agrees, taking a bite of the toast, completely oblivious to the gut wrenching feeling taking over your senses âShe called me to say sheâs coming back. From Hong Kong.â
Oh (but harder).
âThatâs⌠good?â
âItâs great! She got to transfer back for a promotion, with a higher salary and getting to be close to her family.â he explains, sounding way too pleased with himself.
âShe rocks.â you cringe immediately, not knowing what the hell you meant by that.
âRight?â fortunately â or not, thatâs up to the eye of the beholder â he remained completely clueless to your awkwardness. âJackâs going to lose it when he hears it.â he said, chuckling to himself.
You hate how hearing this makes you twice as jealous.
âYâthink Jack remembers her?â you wonder, pretending to be unbothered as you wash your dishes in a way to distract yourself. He stays silent for a second, and you hope heâs not picking up on your selfish rotting for the worse.
âHe does. Last time she face-timed me, Jack took over half the call.â he says, his voice suddenly closer to you. He takes the dishes from your hand, gently pushing you to the side âThatâs on me.â he points kindly, taking over the dishes. You step away, hoping he didnât feel the sound of your heart breaking.
They face-time each other? Is Jack a part of this? By the way he said it, it seems like a frequent occurrence. Where were you all those times? How could you miss that?
Is this cheating? Objectively speaking, if it was cheating he probably wouldnât be so blunt about it. And heâs probably the most loyal person you know.
So why does it feel like cheating? Why do you feel betrayed? Why do you feel so jealous?
Trying to take a hold of the situation, you fight to appear normal, trying your best to hide your anxiousness and all of self-doubt, at least while you figure your feelings out. Otherwise youâd probably end up locked in a mental asylum.
.ăťă.ăťăâăť.ăťâŤăťăăťă.
It turned out the mental asylum would probably be a nicer place to be than your own head right now.
As the day passed by, you started to notice how excited Aaron was for Bethâs arrival. If you missed their calls before, you definitely werenât now. Every other day you stumbled on him somewhere in the house, his phone balanced between his shoulder and his ear while he finished a task.
When it wasnât the calls, it was the texting. He would send her pictures about things she liked and places she missed. She would always send a picture of everything that was different over there, ask silly questions about the job or about Jack.Â
And Jack was a whole other problem. Not a problem, actually. But his obvious adoration towards the woman made you bitter. You found yourself losing your appetite more often than not every time Jack asked about her in the middle of dinner or lunch. Which was a horror on its own, but it was even worse because every time he did it, soon after the meal ended Hotch would call her to tell her about it.
You felt like an outsider.
The worst part was that it wasnât even their fault. Everytime you walked by him, he asked you to join the call, pulling you to sit with him and chat with the woman on the other side of the screen. She would ask about you, about your likes and dislikes. She would joke about Hotch, about his sleep myoclonus, about his ability to fall asleep in the first few minutes of a movie. You laughed with her, making fun of his antic habits as if sharing that with her didnât feel like a knife in your gut.Â
When she finally came back, it was, somehow, worse.
Hotch insisted that youâd tag along on their catching ups, you hang with them as she went out with the team. You had playdates with her and Jack.
It was now safe to say: you hated Beth. And you were completely obsessed with her.
You watched the way she spoke, the way she dressed. How she smiled, how she laughed. The exact color of her lipstick, her haircut.Â
When her nails were perfectly made. She was so elegant. You started doing your nails weekly.
Next time you saw her, her nails were chipped and two of them were broken. She was so carefree. You cancelled your membership at the nail salon.
One would think Beth was a frequent character in Hotch's life. She really wasnât. With all the cases, Jack and his relationship with you, he barely had time to actually hang out with Beth. But there was no point, and the damage was made.
Ever since he took that call, she made her way into your head, building her own little house with a balcony and a white fence. Even if she wasnât around, your mind made sure to think about her. You hated hearing her name, but you secretly hoped it would come up in the middle of the conversation.
When his phone rang, you braced yourself, preparing for that gut wrenching pain you were oh, so familiar with. 9 out of 10 times, it wasnât her. But 1 out of ten times, it was. And when you hear him calling her name, smiling easily at the speaker like she was seeing him, you felt your world fall apart, and what a comforting sensation that was.
You had no idea how you could crave someone as much as you craved her.
You wanted her gone.
The thought came to you out of nowhere, in the middle of the night. You were sleeping on his bed â almost yours by now â and his body involuntarily jerked. And there it was: another sleepless night. You were reminded of her, and now you were cursed to spend the rest of the evening wondering if she slept on the same side of the bed you were in, on how she would react. Would she laugh? Would she wake him? Would she pretend she didnât see it?
It was maddening. It had to stop.
It wasnât going to stop. You had to get out of this.
When the thought came, it stayed. You havenât thought about it before, but you knew it. It had to be done. There was no way you would survive this. There was no way you could compete with this, with her. They understood each other to a degree you could never. They were the same age, and had the same references. They were both divorced, they had experiences you still havenât had. You hated being outside of their inside jokes, even if said jokes were whatever was fashion in the 70âs.
Truth to be told, you wouldnât even be with him if she hadnât moved out of the country. And now she was back, reclaiming her old apartment, her athletic habits and his heart.
You werenât dumb. You could see he loved you. But he loved her too. And you wouldnât settle for half. Even if it killed you inside.
Besides being younger than Aaron â and Beth â you were very mature. Mature enough to understand that you shouldnât make a big deal out of this. You knew, usually, the right thing to do was to talk about your feelings. To explain where you were coming from and make changes in order to keep the relationship alive.
But how could you go to the man you loved and beg him to not fall back in love with his ex? What exactly do you want to achieve by talking to him about it? He wasnât doing anything wrong, you know that much. He would probably just stop talking to her âif it meant not making you insecureâ, but you know very well how that would turn out. You didnât want it to end with a fight, and you didnât want to feel like you had to put up a fight to keep the man you love. You didnât deserve that, and neither did him.
So, piece by piece, you started to make your way out of Aaronâs life.
.ăťă.ăťăâăť.ăťâŤăťăăťă.
You usually spent the majority of your time in his place. And you started to change that, slowly starting to spend more time in your rented apartment than in his. Piece by piece, you started to move back your clothes. First a blouse, then a pajama. Evolving to your dresses, shoes, and your products.
It was going by unnoticed, until after you moved almost all the products on your side of his bathroomâs cabinet. A wednesday morning, while getting ready to work, you opened it to find everything back where they belonged.
You stayed there, shocked for a few seconds, your heart racing. The toothbrush inside your mouth is frozen, the minty foam starting to burn your gums. Aaron stepped on the bathroom behind you, fixing his cufflinks and looking at you through the mirror.
âOh, I saw you ran out of them.â he explained, casually pointing at the new stack of products, completely unaware of your mind short circuiting âYou didnât restock, but I remembered them from last time. I had to go to the drugstore anyway.â he shrugged, reaching for his cologne and stepping out like he didnât just shatter your whole world.
Later, when your tears smudged your mascara, you just said you choked with the mouthwash.
.ăťă.ăťăâăť.ăťâŤăťăăťă.
After a while, youâd spent so much time on your own place that Aaron started to miss you. Not only that, he questioned it. One specific morning, you were in the shared kitchen in the BAU mixing a bowl of yogurt with cereals and fruits when you felt a pair of large hands clinging to your hips. Yelping in surprise, you turned to face your boyfriend.
âHey, you scared me.â you chuckled, picking up the bowl to put something between the two of you.
âI miss you.â he said, simply. He wasnât whining, or complaining, or even trying to talk you out of your devious plan â not that he knew about it. He was just stating a fact, as clear as the day, the same way and tone he announced a profile or call a meeting.
Not knowing what to answer without breaking into tears, you stuffed a spoon full of greek yogurt, granola and strawberries into your mouth. While you did it, you mumbled something he couldnât comprehend. Figuring you said you missed him too, he just moved on, leaning over your head to reach for the cabinet.
âCan I take you out for dinner tonight?â he asked, grabbing the freshly made coffee and filing his mug âItâs been a while since we left the house.â
You swoon at him, taking a deep breath before answering âIt has. But I have plans.â you grimaced âGirls night.â you explained, chewing on the granola for longer than needed.
Aaron stopped for a second, his steaming mug already halfway to his lips. âOh.â He wasnât the kind of boyfriend to be in the way of your life, but he usually was aware of your plans. Not in a controlling way, but by knowing you, talking to you. And he was just realizing how it felt not knowing. He hated it. Not being a man to give up, he quickly came up with another idea âI can make you that BLT you like while you get ready.â not seeing you immediately jump with joy â as you usually do when BLT is mentioned â he suggested âOr we can stop at McDonalds drive-thru when I pick you up later.âÂ
Your heart did a backflip and shattered in a thousand pieces with the sight of his puppy eyes, expectantly looking at you.
âOh that sounds lovely. But the bar weâre heading itâs the one across the street from my building. Weâre walking there.â you explain, placing a hand on his chest gently, fixing the lapels of his suit. He looked down at your hands, fighting the urge to pull you by his arms and lock you in there. He wasnât sure what was happening, but his gut knew something didnât sit right.
âText me when you get there. And when you get home.â he says, more a statement than a request. Your safety was not negotiable. You nodded, stepping closer to him and giving him a quick peck on the side of his jaw.
âI promise!â and you meant it, winking at him as you move to leave the kitchen.
Just as you step outside the perimeter, you almost bump into Rossi, whoâs just standing there with his hands buried in his pockets and his eyebrow raised so high it was almost blending his hairline. Not ready to handle his piercing gaze â knowing youâd crumble at the first couple minutes â, you just nodded and gave him one of your best polite smiles, speeding your pace all the way to your desk.
.ăťă.ăťăâăť.ăťâŤăťăăťă.
After you knocked twice on the office door, you stared at the words âDavid Rossiâ engraved on the metal platter in its center as you waited for him to open.
When he did, you were surprised to see his office drowned in low light coming from the lamp on his desk and the moonlight peeking through the widow.
âYou wanted to see me?â it meant as a statement: he did ask to see you. At first, you were sure it had something to do with the case you were consulting, the topic you and him were talking about during dinner. What confused you was that the setting looked anything but professional, if the expensive bourbon bottle and the two glasses sitting on the table wasnât enough of a tell.
âYes. Come in.â he said, waiting for you to walk into the office to close the door. You stood awkwardly in the middle of the room, waiting for him to take the lead. Unaware â or, most probably, choosing to ignore â your startled state, he slowly made his way to the couch on the back of the room, filling up both glasses before sitting comfortably.
Taking one of the glasses, you sat beside him, pressing your lips together and trying not to bounce your leg to ease the tension.
âHow was girls night?â Rossi asks, raising his glass to his lips. He didnât even look at you as he waited for your answer, his tone almost mocking you.
Having absolutely no idea what he was going with this, you decided to play along âIt was fun.â
He nodded âI see.â You took a sip of your drink, trying to keep your posture. It didnât work. As soon as the burning liquid settled in your stomach, you turned to face him. Terrible idea.
âDave, whatâs going on? What is this?â
âYou know,â he started, completely ignoring your question âPeople may think about profiling as a criminal study. They think we have to learn about psychopaths, stressors, geography, and criminal patterns. That itâs about getting in the mind of crazy people and figuring them out.â
âAnd it isnât?â you blinked, drowned by his speech.
âOh, definitely. But itâs not just that. Itâs about studying people. Feelings, motivations. Learning, understanding their behaviour and using it to figure out their intentions.â
And thatâs when it hit you: he knew.
âWe have an unspoken policy in the BAU: not profiling each other.â he began, turning his body to face you.
âSo why are you profiling me?â you asked, voice edging and uneasy, desperately trying to stop him from putting into words. He ignored it.
âYouâre breaking up with him.â Not a question, not a suggestion, and definitely not a doubt. âI know what this is about. Who this is about.â your chewed on your bottom lip, deciding on what to say.
âPlease, donât try to talk me out of it.â you beg, hating how weak your own voice sounds. He took another long and lazy sip, and you watched as the liquid clinged to his lips, the wet reflecting the low light of the lamp.
âI wonât.â he stared at you, his eyes squinting slightly âIâm here to encourage you.â
You frowned, your eyebrows pinching together âWhat?â
âYes. You really should break up with him. You know, if youâre in such an unbearable relationship.â You roll your eyes, tilting your head back.
âStop.â
âNo, seriously. Do you think heâs what? Cheating on you with Beth?â
âWhat? Thatâs not what this is about. I know heâs not cheating.â you defend yourself, cringing at the topic of the discussion.
âThen what is it?â
âIâm justâŚâ your eyes burn with tears harder than the liquid on your throat when you down the rest of the bourbon before continuing âIâm not her.â
âYou sure? Under this specific light I couldâve sworeâŚâ
âDave!â you whine, and he chuckles.
âYes, youâre not Beth.â you grimace at her name, not bothering to hide your feelings anymore âWhy are you saying this as a bad thing?â
âBecause it is. Sheâs back now andâŚâ you feel a tear striking down your cheek as you gesticulate âShe just fits. She gets him.â
âAnd you donât?â
You sigh âYou must think I sound really stupid.â
âOh, you sound absolutely ridiculous.â you look at him, looking at a smirk on his face. Before you realize it, youâre laughing as well, but in a weak and depressed way âLove does this to us. Make us blind to the obvious. Clouds our judgement and turns us intoâŚâ he gesticulates towards you. You roll your eyes, but youâre not crying anymore âI have three divorces, so youâd think I know one thing or two about failed relationships. And let me tell you: yours isnât one of them.â
âYouâre just saying this because youâre his best friend.â
âIâm saying this because I love you.â he stated bluntly, and you widened your eyes in surprise, not expecting this. âAnd it'll kill me to see you do something I know youâll regret later.â he leaned closer, looking at you with a paternal love that made you uneasy âHotch loves you, kid. Donât try to assume things. Let him know.â
âItâs hard.â
âI know it is. It has to be, donât you think?â he smiles, the wrinkle on the corner of his eyes enhancing his passion towards the subject âOr else is not worth it. But talk to him. You know him more than I do, but Iâm pretty sure youâre seeing things out of a place of hurt, probably past experiences.â he nod his head in a knowing gesture âFrom what I see, youâre out of your mind if you think that Hotch would ever consider living his life away from you.â
You only notice the tear streaming down your cheeks like a waterfall when his fingers gently wipe them away.
âSorry.â you mumble, and he shakes his head.
âListen, if it doesnât work out, it doesnât. Itâll be fine too. Youâll be fine. But just donât let it all go to waste before at least giving him a chance.â
.ăťă.ăťăâăť.ăťâŤăťăăťă.
It got to a point where you had to stop for a second to wipe the sweat out of your eyelids to see. By the time you reached your â Aaronâs â front door, your heartbeat had lowered to a normal rhythm and your skin was now cold rather than wet. You spent almost the entire night awake, tossing and turning on the bed. The night went so late it was almost morning, so you figured it made more sense to just get up and do something other than to lay in the dark with nothing but your loud and torturous mind.
Running, these past few weeks, were your loyal ally to your early mornings. That specific day, you just got back from an over two hour long run, finally feeling your limbs hurting more than your heart. As you walked in, you were surprised to find Aaron pacing around the living room, something crumpled up on one of his fist, a piece of paper in the other.
When he looked at you, his face was everything but stoic: he looked panicked, tortured, confused and, overall, hurting. âWe need to talkâ he said, quietly. If you listened closely, you could hear the way his voice wobbled in the middle of the sentence, like he didnât actually want to talk. Like he wanted you to just be confused, and just ask what he meant by that, and that you werenât being distant, he was just paranoid. Anything that could prove, beyond reasonable doubt, that you werenât, in fact, leaving.
Despite all his silent wishes you just nodded, making your way to the couch âYeah, we do.â
Hoping the sound of his heart shattering wasn't loud enough for you to hear, he made his way to the couch in front of you, distant enough for him to think clearly â as much as possible, under the circumstances. For a minute you just stared at each other, the weight of everything unsaid so heavy it could suffocate.
You glanced down at his hands, still not managing to understand what he was holding so tight on his fist. On the other hand, you could finally see what it was. Before you left the house that morning, already planning on staying out for long, you wrote him a note with the steps to use the coffee pot.
âBefore we start,â he began, his voice hoarse. He clears his throat before continuing âI already know. So thereâs no need to lie.â you gulp, shifting in your seat. You never lied to him before, but it was fair of him to point it out. You werenât being exactly honest. And even though you knew what he was talking about, it still surprised you when he finally said it out loud âWhen exactly you were planning on breaking up with me?â
Your breath hitched, panic rushing through your veins. It didnât matter that you still weren't sure about what to do, there was no point in lying. Not anymore. It hurt you to think about it, but actually admitting to him was a whole other level of pain.
âI donât know.â you answer weakly.
He blinks. And then chuckles.
When he dips his head down, you stare at him confused. The only thing you catch is the way his head shakes slightly, his fists flexing but never letting go of your note and the other white soft â looks fluffy? Is it a stress relief ball? â thing. Aaron tilts his head up and his eyes are full of tears. They are shiny and reddish, and you want nothing more than to make it all go away.
âHotch,â you try, because just watching him crumble in front of you is not an option.
âJesus! Stop calling me that.â he spat, frowning.
âYour name?â
âThatâs not my name. Not to you. Not in here.â he adverts, the pain muffling the anger in his tone.
You chew on your bottom lip, trying to hold back the tears that are threatening to fall from your eyes. Sniffing as quietly as possible, you look at him âDo you think this is easy for me?â
âIt must be!â he says, barely containing himself, âYouâre doing it all behind my back, vanishing from my life little by little, until all I have left is an empty drawer with nothing but this shirt and a coffee pot I don't know how to use.â and you finally understand what he was holding on so tightly. Itâs a plain silky pajama shirt. Itâs the only piece of clothing because itâs matching short you â he â ended up tearing it in half on the first night you wore it.
âI left you instructions.â you point to the paper in his other hand.
âI donât want to learn.â he looks disgusted at the paper, like it personally offended him âIâm not learning how to use it.â he emphasizes.
You try again âItâs not that hard.â
âI wonât.âÂ
That discussion was pointless, anyway. It is something to cling onto while avoiding the main issue. Sighing deeply in order to avoid crying, you change the subject âListen, itâs nothing with you. Itâs me.â you snort at that, because itâs that old cheesy and shitty excuse. But itâs the truth. âIâm justâŚâ itâs all you manage to say before the tears blur your vision and you have to dip your head down to try and wipe them away.
His voice filled your ears, making you glance up to face him again. âI noticed that you werenât being yourself, but I figured youâd tell me. It was something from work, or your family. I didnât think it was this. It was us.â his voice weakens, and he has to gulp before continuing âArenât you happy anymore?âÂ
âI⌠thereâs a lot going on.â you feel your nose burning, and you stop caring if he sees the tears streaming down your face.
âTell me what I did.â his demeanor changes, and he doesnât look sad and confused anymore. He sounds energetic, urgent, demanding and begging all together âTell me where I got it wrong, i can change it. Iâll do it right. Iâll do it better.â
Hearing this, combined with the raw desperation on his voice, so opposite from his usual calm and steady behavior, only makes you cry harder, and you donât even try to wipe them away.
âYou did nothing wrong. Nothing. I donât want you to change. I justâŚâ a strangled hiccup interrupted your speech, and you feel ridiculous, weak, dramatic and lonely. You want this to end, but also you want this to have never happened. âI shouldnât feel this way in a relationship.â
He nodded, thinking. When Aaron speaks again, his voice is much calmer. Resignated, even. âSo thatâs it, then? You have your mind made up? Nothing I say will change it.â and itâs not a question anymore.
âIâm doing this for you, I want nothing more than whatâs best for you.â
âBullshit.â he snapped, his words startling you âWhy are you doing this? Is it the job? You said itâs not me. Is it Jack? Is this life too much for you? The responsibility ofâŚâ
âWhat? Of course not!â your heart aches thinking about it. It hurts that he thinks this, but you have no one but yourself to blame âI love Jack. I love our⌠this life.âÂ
He stays silent for a second, as if analyzing your explanation â or lack thereof. âIs it someone else?â you stop, and blinks. This is it. You wonât lie straight to his face. He stiffens, and it doesnât need another word from you to understand. âWho is him?â
âHim?â you frown in the middle of your tears, so confused you stopped crying. âWhat do you mean?âÂ
âYou said there was someone else.â he squinted his eyes at you.
âI didnât, you did.âÂ
âYou didnât deny it. Who is he?â he insisted, his jaw tensed.
âWho do you think I am?â you asked, actually aggravated at his accusations âI would neverâŚâÂ
âWho is he?â he interrupts you, his eyes burning holes in your head.
âThere's no he. Itâs Beth.âÂ
Hotchâs jaw is immediately unlocked at that, the anger and betrayal completely subsided by complete shock and confusion. âWhat? You and⌠Beth?â
âHuh?â you were the one left in confusion now. How did he get to that conclusion? For a second, you didnât feel the excruciating pain and humiliation from admitting your feelings to him âNo. You and Beth.â
âWhat do I have to do with this?â he asks, his confusion turning to aggravation once again âYou donât like our friendship? Thatâs why you're breaking up with me?â
Now, said excruciating pain and humiliation were back on its full force. You ignored the lump on your throat, taking a deep breath and explaining the situation in the most sober and objective way possible. âI realized you and her fit more together than me and you, andâŚâ your voice faltered as you saw his outrageous expression â...the two of you only broke up because she moved away. Youâre all happy that sheâs coming back. I just figuredâŚâ
âWhat?â he interrupted, his voice sharp and edgy âThat iâd break up with you to be with her?â asking like it was a ridiculous thought. You stayed silent, because that was exactly what you thought. He huffed an incredulous laugh through his nose âJesus. Did I ever give you a reason to question me? Or my loyalty?â he accused, his voice showing more worry than anger.
âNo. Actually I don't know if youâd break up with me. Thatâs why I saved you the trouble.â you shrugged, trying not to show how much it hurt you to say it.
âJesus fucking christ.â he muttered, pintching the bridge of his noise âAre you even hearing yourself?â
âStop talking like I'm insane.â you snapped, losing your patience âYouâre the one making phone calls, facetiming and going on dates with your ex girlfriend. I saw you when the two of you broke up. I was there. You were in pain. How am I supposed to feel? How am I supposed to handle this? How am I supposed to compete with this? Explain to me, Aaron. Because I have no fucking clue.â
The moment you stopped speaking, you realized you were almost yelling. It was the first time you let out your anger, your hurt. All the time you kept saying you were doing the best: for Aaron, for Jack, for Beth⌠Not once you stopped to think how much it sucked to be you, to deal with all of that. Yes, you couldâve talked to him sooner. But you shouldnât have felt like that. No one should.Â
When you asked him to explain, to tell you what to do, it wasnât a fight. It wasnât sass. You were actually asking, begging for him, for someone, to tell you how to feel. It didnât make sense, none of this made sense to you. It was too overwhelming, and you just wanted it to be gone. You wanted to disappear.
You noticed too late you were crying, fully sobbing now, with one hand clutched to your chest, as if you tried to rip your heart out, and the other resting against your throat, trying to soothe the pain from talking so loud. You didnât see how his expression softened, his anger melting into pure sorrow. He couldnât believe he did that to you, that he, of all people, made you feel this way.
A few minutes had passed when he finally made a move. He got up from his couch and crossed the room, sitting right by your side. His knees were pressed against your thighs, his eyes filled with tears. His body and his soul were completely in surrender to yours.Â
âIâm sorry,â he said, simply. âI shouldâve seen it before. I shouldn't have acted like this. Or at least, talked to you about it. Iâm not trying to make any excuses for the way I acted, but I need to explain.â he cleared, his eyes scanning your face every 10 seconds, trying to find any hint of chance in your stance âThe thought of someone other than you, in a romantic way, is so out of my reality that I didnât even considered her a âthreatâ. Not that she, or anyone, is a threat. But I really didnât see the situation as something that couldâve hurt you. And that was my first mistake.â
âShe knows you in a way that I canât.â
âYou know me in a way no one can.â he argued âYou were my subordinate, then my work colleague, my friend. Now youâre my best friend and my family. Youâre the woman I love.â he gulped, flinching at his own words and feeling the hot streak of a lonely tear falling from his eye. The one he couldnât hold back. âI donât want you going back to being less than that.â
Your posture didnât show any kind of surrender. But he didnât see resistance either, and when you turned to face him, he noticed that you didnât keep arguing and just waited to listen. Taking it as a good (the best yet) sign, he pressed further.
âThereâs nothing going on between me and Beth. She happened to be the first friend Iâve had outside of the job for a long time, thatâs all. I donât know if it will help to hear this,â he tried, hesitantly â...but her leaving wasnât the only reason why we broke up.â seeing your questioning expression, he kept going âWe came to the realization we worked better as friends anyway, and it was just a matter of time for us to end things. The moving just happened first.â he shrugged.
You opened your mouth to speak, but he anticipated your argument âYes, I did suffer. It was a change in scenario, how could I not? But as I said, we knew it was happening. So what it hurt the most was actually Jack. I felt like the worst parent from giving another sort of mother figure just to take it away from his life. Again.â
Before you could think properly, your hand reached out to his, squeezing in a silent reassurance. He always doubted his parental skills, and you were always making sure to remind him how amazing he was. Even now, with your heart broken and your relationship hanging by a thread, you still found a way to comfort him.Â
How could he lose something like this? Someone like this? How could he let you go? How could he make you feel that way? He had to press his lips together in a thin line to keep them from trembling, and to hold back the force of his grip when he squeezed your hand back, making sure he wasnât hurting you as he not so subtly tried to hold on to you. To keep you from leaving.
âHoney,â he started, not even caring about his voice cracking. He couldnât wait any longer, or lose any more chances. This was it. âI love you so much. I know this isnât ideal, and I hate myself for ever making you feel this way. If not being with me will make you happier, thenâŚâ he gulped â...Iâll let you go. But if this situation is the only reason, please, donât go. Please, give me a chance to show you how youâre the only one I want.â
You feel your tears running freely from your face, and you choke up a sob before speaking, your voice so weak it was barely hearable âI feel really immature.â
He laughs, but it doesnât sound like heâs making fun of you. It sounds like heâs gone completely mad, like your admission was the water bottle after two days in the desert. It gave him hope.
âNo.â he denied firmly, not letting go of your hand even for a second âNow that I think about it, if the tables were turned, I mightâve murdered your ex.â he whispered like a secret. It was so unexpected and so out of character of him that you laughed, surprising both you and him. He smiled from ear to ear at the sound of it. âIâm really sorry, I shouldâve been more careful with the situation.â
âI shouldâve just talked to you instead of jumping to conclusions.â you smiled apologetically. He ignores your attempt, looking deep into your eyes and calling your name with such a raw expectation that if you werenât already seated, you wouldâve fell.
âDid you change your mind?â you hesitate for a second, and he sees right through you âTell me you have. I know you want to, I can feel it.â His voice is quiet, his words so soft spoken it feels like a spell. Only you know that you do want to be with him, now that is all cleared. âPlease, give me a chance to make things right.â
You chew on your bottom lip as your eyes fill with tears again âI feel stupid.â you admit, and he wants nothing more than to cry his eyes out.
âDonât say that ever again.â he leans in hesitantly, and when you donât flinch or pull back, he wipes the tears from your face with the pad of his thumb. The other hand is still holding yours firmly âYou were protecting yourself, as you shouldâve. Thank you.â
âWhat for?â you snort between tears, not understanding what he could possibly be thankful for in this situation.
âThank you for protecting and taking such good care of someone I love so much. Especially when I was too damn blind to see that she needed it.â
After that, there was no point of dragging this any further: you were completely and undeniably his.
He didnât see it coming, his body jerking in surprise when you literally jumped to his lap, hugging him tightly and burying your face on his neck, sobbing and muttering apologies on repeat. His lips were glued to the crown of your head, kissing you repeatedly. His hands were all over you, touching from your feet to the strands of your hair, as if his body needed to feel you there, to make sure you were with him, for his mind to completely wrap up around the fact that you werenât going anywhere.
Ignoring your words, he whispered his own, âDonât you ever apologize. I should be the one apologizing. Iâm so sorry, sweetheart.â and itâs the only moment his lips leave your skin âIâm sorry. I will never make you feel this way. If I ever hurt you like that again, and I wonât, I want youâŚâ
âDonât say it.â you cut him off. He ignores, once again.
â...to just shoot me in the face. Kill me.â
You chuckle weakly, lifting your head from his chest to face him properly âDude, you gotta stop with the murder threats.â he arches his eyebrow at you, the corner of his mouth twitching in a smirk.
âDude? Who do you think youâre talking to?â he asks, and his finger tickles your sides as the stubble on his beard tickles your neck. Your body jerks and twitches on top of his while you laugh loudly, but never moving away from his.
When he finally feels you learned your lessons, his hands rested comfortably around your waist in its rightful place. You sigh, looking at him.
âPromise me that you will always talk to me, and be honest about your feelings. No matter how ugly you think they are.â
âI promise.â you say as you wipe the wet off his face, and itâs just then that he realizes heâd been crying all along âPromise me that if your feelings for me change, youâll communicate.â he rolls his eyes so hard it feels like theyâll hit the back of his head âPromise.â you insist.
âI promise.â he says, seriously. When you relax, he starts again. âMatter of fact, my feelings just changed.â you squint your eyes at his playful tone âA few minutes ago I wanted to stop by your place to get back the clothes you took. But now, Iâve decided youâll be spending the rest of the weekend with nothing to wear but that shirt.â he says, leaning â without moving you away from his lap â to grab the piece of fabric he left on the center table.
âI have to get at least underwear.â you argue.
âIf you behave, Iâll let you borrow a couple boxers.â
âJack will see it.â
âHeâs a kid. And theyâre the exact same size of what you call your casual shorts so I doubt heâll notice the difference.â he points seriously and you squeal, slapping his chest slightly.
âThatâs rude. And humiliating.â
âThatâs what you get for stealing.â
Your mouth hangs open for a second âI didnât steal! I didnât take anything from your house but my clothes.â
âThis house is ours.â he stares at you deeply, waiting for his statement to sink in before continuing âSo is everything in it. From the bedroom to the coffee pot and, therefore, your clothes. So, basically, you stole from us.â he shrugged, like he made a perfect point. You just laugh, choosing to accept it.
âIâm sorry for stealing.â he nodded politely and you dive back into his embrace, sighing happily âCan we stay like this forever?â Aaron tight his arms around you, his whole body answering before any words came out.
âIâll think about it. But before that, we have to eat. You're probably on the verge of dehydration right now.â he points, standing up with you still in his arms, and makes his way toward the kitchen. He settles you in one of the stools and hands you your shirt âGo change while I make us breakfast. Now that Iâve learnt how to use the coffee pot.â
You gasp, widening your eyes in a mock-threat. Jumping out of the stool with your shirt already crumpled on your hands, you stomp your way to where he stands behind the stove, pointing your finger to his chest. âYou can cook whatever you want, but don't you dare touch the coffee pot, Aaron Hotchner.â
Aaron does just as you said, beaming while frying the bacon even when youâre upstairs in his shower. Your shower. And both of you know, somehow, youâll be okay.

birthday blues (part one)- s.reid
-------------------------
-------------------------
a/n: i absolutely adore this idea! thank you so much for requesting and sorry that we didn't get to the happy ending yet... but we will eventually!
summary: spencer makes a choice that leaves you alone on an important day and causes something in your relationship breaks.
pairing: spencer reid x fem reader
warnings: birthday blues, spencer's an ass, your best friend calls spencer a lot of names and curse words, talks of breaking up, no happy ending :(
-------------------------
Your phone rang and you knew what it was. There you were surrounded by your friends in your apartment, getting ready for your birthday party, and your stupid boyfriend had to ruin it all.Â
You picked up. âHey Spencer,â you sighed, but attempted to mask it with a smile.Â
You could hear the deep inhale on his end and it solidified what you already knew. âYou canât come, right?â You said it for him.Â
âIâm so sorry,â he sighed. âItâs just-â
âAnother case. I get it Spencer, itâs fine,â you lied.Â
The line was quiet for a moment.Â
âHappy birthday,â he said sheepishly. âI love you.â
You scoffed. For a profiler, he wasnât exactly good at noticing things. Like the subtle shake in your voice, or the small hiccups of tears you tried (and failed) to suppress when you hung up the phone without saying you loved him.Â
You turned to your best friend Rebecca, a sad look on your face. âHeâs not coming.â
She rolled her eyes. âHeâs such a fucking asshole. When is he ever going to just show up for you? Itâs your birthday for godâs sake. He missed when you got promoted, he missed your gallery opening, he missed your anniversary and heâs missing your birthday? Why are you even with him?âÂ
You felt the pressure build up in your throat and she pulled you into your bathroom and held you as you sobbed. She sent everyone home, saying you were sick and she called the restaurant and cancelled the reservation. You got out of the dress Spencer had bought you, a beautiful wine colour that complimented you in all the right places. You sat in your bed and cried for hours as Rebecca comforted you with old Disney movies you two watched as kids and your favourite ice cream and some salty popcorn.Â
âI just feel like he values his job over me⌠like I donât even make top 4 in his list of priorities,â you sighed, your eyes glued to âTangledâ as it played. âLike⌠look at him! Heâs so in love with her!â You pointed at the screen and Rebecca had to surprise a laugh over you being jealous of Flynn Rider and Rapunzel, two fictional characters. âDonât laugh at me!â You scoffed at her, shoving her in the arm as she started giggling.
âIâm not!â She said through laughter. She alighted made you laugh, and you two were stuck like that for a few minutes, laughing so hard you could hardly breathe. âOk! Ok! Look, to be serious, you deserve so much better than Spencer. You need someone who cares about you more than his job, someone who can actually be here when you need him.â
You nodded along, the weight of her words heavy on your mind.
-------------------------
When you finally cried yourself to sleep Rebecca took your phone from your bedside table and dialled his number.Â
âHey love, are you alright?-â he started but she cut him off.
âIâm so glad Iâm finally meeting you, even if itâs just over the phone because now I know what a fucking asshole sounds like. You idiotic bitch. Stop calling Y/n and let her be with someone who cares enough to be there for important things in her life. Who cares enough to meet her friends. Who cares about her in the slightest!â She argued over the line. âShe spent her entire birthday night in her bed crying over you, when she shouldâve been out with her family and friends. Youâre such a dick!â She seethed. âSo yeah, stop calling this number.â
The line went dead and Spencer felt his heart drop. Youâd spent your special night crying over him.Â
He was an asshole.Â
-------------------------
Heâd booked the first flight out of Denver and told Hotch it was important, he understood and allowed him to go.Â
He showed up outside your apartment bright and early, 5am in the morning. Rebecca opened the door and promptly shut it in his face, something he knew he deserved but it still hurt nonetheless.Â
âPlease can I just talk to her?â He begged from his side of the door.Â
âSheâs asleep,â she scoffed. âWhy are you here?â
âI need to see her,â he pleaded, and Rebecca cracked the door. âPlease Rebecca.â
âGive me a good reason,â she said as you walked out of the bedroom.
âWhoâs at the door?â you yawned and Rebecca sighed as Spencer started begging you to open the door.Â
âIs that you baby? C-can you open the door? Iâm so sorry baby I didnât mean to-â
âRebecca open the door.â
She sighed but obliged and stepped out as Spencer stepped in. Immediately, you were in his arms as he kissed you softly, apologies rolling off his tongue in between kisses. As much as you enjoyed him being in your arms, it still felt superficial and wrong. His face fell when you pushed him off of you. His eyes followed your figure as you walked to the kitchen and put on the white kettle that sat beside the coffee machine heâd gotten you last year.Â
âWhat are you doing here?â you sniffled, posture and body language guarded as you waited for the water to boil.Â
âItâs your birthday,â he shrugged with a sad smile. âI wanted to be with you.â
âYou were perfectly happy leaving me alone 11 hours ago. What changed?âÂ
âI realised I messed up, and some choice words from Rebecca helped me along,â he sighed. How was he supposed to fix this?Â
Guilt started to settle in your stomach. Were you really right to be upset right now? Even since you were a child you were told to âbe gratefulâ. You were told to âbe gratefulâ when you stopped getting presents when you were 11, when you stopped getting cards when you were 14, when you watched your dad shower his other children from his new marriage with gifts while he didnât even notice you in his house. You should be grateful that Spencer was even wishing you a happy birthday earlier, how could you be so ungrateful?
âYou should be on the case, Iâll order you a taxi back to the airport and Iâll pay you back for the ticket-â you rushed out, reaching for your phone but Spencerâs hand stopped you.
âI want to be here,â he pleaded. âPlease donât make me go away.â
You looked up at him through teary eyes and his hand came up to cup your cheek, wiping the tears away.Â
âIâm so sorry I ever thought it was ok to miss your birthday. You are the single most important thing in my life and Iâm sorry that Iâm not here as much as Iâd like to be,â he smiled softly, but you could tell he was serious. You allowed yourself to be lost in the fantasy for a moment, being the most important thing in Spencerâs life.Â
But, as always, reality sunk in and it left a sour taste in your mouth, leading to another change in body language which Spencer picked up on immediately. âWhat? Whatâs wrong?â
âSpencer, your job always takes priority over us- over me. Which is fine. I know my place. Just please donât make promises you canât keep from now on, okay? My parents were dying to meet you, and now I had to cancel the entire dinner. I just⌠I know you canât be here all the time, but I do expect you to show up for things like this. I donât care when you miss anniversaries or my promotions-â
Spencerâs heart dropped. âY-you got promoted⌠and you never told me?âÂ
âYou were in New York,â you shrugged. âOn a case with no end in sight. Why should I make your life harder?â
âYouâd never make my life harder. You make my life worth it, worth all the shit I do. I want you to tell me everything baby, always-â
âSpencer, itâs okay to say that youâre inconvenienced by our relationship,â you said in a watery chuckle. âI understand, and Iâd get it if youâre too busy for this.â
Spencerâs breath caught in his throat. Were you really suggesting breaking-up?Â
âI think we should talk another time Spencer, Iâll drive you to your apartment,â you sighed, grabbing your keys. Spencer was much too exhausted and in shock to put up a fight, so he followed you to your car.Â
-------------------------
The drive was silent, but full of an awkward silence. Silences with Spencer had never been awkward, always pleasant, or comforting. Never awkward.Â
When you dropped him off outside his apartment, he leaned over to kiss you, but you dodged him with a hug. You felt as a small, internal sob racked his body but tried to convince yourself that it was just a hiccup.Â
What were you going to do?

Little Big Secret (Spencer Reid x Fem!Reader)
(Not my gif. Credits to the creator)
ââââââ
Author Masterlist
ââââââ
Pairing: Spencer Reid x Fem!Reader.
Summary: Youâre 36 weeks pregnant with Spencerâs baby. What happens when you are about to give birth and need to contact Spencer while he is in a case out of town?
Word Count: 3.3k
Warnings: Pregnancy and labor symptoms are described. Some strong words. If I missed something, let me know. It's a fluffy one. Dad!Spencer coming to light. The chaotic trio I love having their moment (Reid-Morgan-Prentiss).
A/N: I wrote this fic based on this request. I loved doing it! Let me know what you think.
ââââââ
Being 36 weeks pregnant and stuck in your apartment trying to convince your non-born baby girl to stop kicking your guts is not funny. It's worse when the same scenario occurs at 3 am, and you are alone, unable to sleep in the last 24 hours, exhausted and sentimental because your boyfriend Spencer isn't home.
You won't tell him that, though. You convinced him to go with the team to Trenton for a case, telling him you would be okay and that baby girl Reid won't be here for at least two weeks. That's what your doctor said to you in the last appointment.
Reluctantly Spencer agreed, making you swear you would call him or your sister if anything happened.
"Relax, baby. Everything will be okay. We'll be here when you return from your case," you assured him. "You have to go while you can. Once this girl is born, you'll be stuck here and will get tired of us," you giggled. Spencer's eyes widened.
"What? No! Get tired of you? Never!"
"About that. Do they know why you are taking leave in the next weeks?"
"Not really. Hotch knows, but the rest assume I'll go to see my mom," your boyfriend shrugged.
You still find it unbelievable that the best-known profilers in the country haven't noticed one of their own has a girlfriend for three years and a baby on the way.
At first, you had your apprehensions about why Spencer didn't want his team to know your existence. You thought maybe Spencer felt embarrassed because of you or didn't consider your relationship worth enough for them to know. But your boyfriend assured you it was anything but that. He told you what happened to Haley, Hotch's wife, and the multiple times a team's family member has been exposed to danger because of their job. He wanted you safe. He wanted to protect you.
The only one who knew about you was Hotch, Spencer's boss. But he, better than anyone, could understand Spencer's reasons, so he hadn't said anything.
You understood it and accepted it, even if you both knew that at some point, your secret would not be a secret anymore. For now, it was safer like this.
Exhaustion was all you got now, and even you have been trying to bribe your unborn daughter with chocolates if she behaved and let you sleep. It seemed you succeeded as she stopped making a party in your womb.
You fall asleep thinking about how your life has changed in the past years and how happy you were despite how uncomfortable pregnancy was at this point.
The next morning you woke up feeling a little better. Sleep helped, but your body was still tense, so you thought a warm bath after breakfast was a good idea to relax your sore muscles.
You were finishing your pancakes when Spencer called you.
"Hey, baby!" You greeted.
"Good morning, my love. How did you sleep?"
You didn't have the heart to tell him how uncomfortable you were last night.
"Good. Everything is good here. How is the case?" You tried to direct the topic to him. Spencer sighed.
"I think we are close to catching the unsub, but it had been hard," he confessed.
"I know you'll get him soon," you assured him. Spencer chuckled. He loved how you were always rooting for him. You were his biggest fan.
"I hope so. And you? Our baby girl has been good? When I come back-" he didn't even finish the sentence when someone called his name in the distance. 'Reid! We need you now!'
A heavy sigh left Spencer's lips.
"I'm sorry, love. I got to go," he mumbled into the receiver, guilt dripping from his voice.
"Hey, it's okay. Don't apologize and go to catch the bad guy," you encouraged him.
"I will. I love you so so much. And I love our little one. I promise to make it up to you both, okay?"
"I love you more. We'll be waiting for you."
Despite your efforts to relax during your bath, it seemed baby Reid had other plans, like moving and squeezing your insides. You tried singing to her, telling stories, and everything that came to mind.
You gave up and hopped off the tub. You dried your body and decided to watch some TV. After a while, stuck in a random show, the noise lulled you to sleep without noticing.
Everything would have been perfect if it weren't for the fact that an intense pain woke you up suddenly. You didn't know the time, but the TV was still on. You tried to sit on the sofa, but the pain wouldn't leave you, so much so that it was hard for you to breathe. The twisting in your belly was stronger than you'd ever felt and scaring you.
"My sweet girl, I know you're eager to see us, but you have some days left in Mommy's womb, so try to be nice, okay?" You panted, trying to reason with your baby.
You weren't ready to give birth, let alone without Spencer.
But, again, baby Reid had her own plans.
Another sharp pang made you slouch on the sofa; this time, you felt something warm running down your legs. You looked down and saw the liquid drip onto the couch and slide to the floor.
Fuck. Your water just broke.
-
The morning was a rush for the whole team and the Tremont police. After an anonymous tip, they located the guy who fitted the profile and ended up being the unsub they were looking for. As he had a hostage, the team moved quickly to the warehouse where he kept captive his ex-girlfriend, the source of his rage. Before things went further, Rossi's shot ended with the unsub screaming in pain and the hostage a nervous wreck but unharmed.
Spencer couldn't believe it took them a whole week to locate the bastard, but it was finally done. So they returned to the precinct to wrap the last details and go home.
Spencer was pulling the case photos off the board when his phone started ringing. He saw it was you and hastened to answer. Usually, you didn't call him while he was working.
"Hello?"
But a loud grunt came to his ear instead of your sweet voice. Spencer's eyes widened.
â(Y/N)? Is that you?"
You barely could say a word, the intense pain reducing you to heavy breathing and whimpers.
"Spence-" you managed to say. "The baby. It hurts."
It didn't take a genius to figure out what was happening."Where are you? What's wrong? Where is Tania?"
Too many questions, and you had answers for all of them. But it was difficult to say a word with the pain cursing your body. After the contraction subsided, you could speak.
"My water broke. I'm home, and Tania doesn't answer. I don't know- ahhhh, fuck!!!"
Shit. You were in labor and alone at home. Spencer wanted to throw up.
"Baby, listen to me. I will call 911, but I need you to breathe, okay?"
"No! Spencer, don't hang up. I need you," you cried.
Spencer paced frantically in the room as Emily, Morgan, and Rossi looked at him, worried.
To call 911? Who the hell was he talking to?
"Reid? What is it?" Morgan tried to get his attention, but Spencer's brain was trying to make a plan to help you without stopping talking to you.
â(Y/N), please. I need you to breathe. Can you do that for me, please?"
JJ and Hotch entered the room at that moment. Both frowned when they saw Spencer pacing and the rest standing and waiting to know what was going on and what to do to help Spencer.
â(Y/N)? Can you hear me?"
You couldn't reply to him, crying in pain instead. Spencer thought he could die of panic.
"Yes. But I can't move," you sobbed.
Hotch didn't need much to understand what was going on. Grabbing his phone, he called Penelope.
Spencer was reduced to dumb and didn't know what to do.
"Garcia, I need you to call 911 and dispatch an ambulance to..." he paused and looked at Spencer, who was talking to you. "Reid," Hotch named. When he got no response, he tried louder. "Reid! Where? Where is she?" Spencer's face found Hotch's.
"At my place," he told his boss.
"Garcia, an ambulance to Reid's address. Report a pregnant woman in labor that needs to go to the hospital. I need you to go there too. Make sure she gets to the hospital alright. I'll give you more information later."
Pregnant woman in labor at Spencer's address?
Morgan, Prentiss, JJ, and Rossi shared the same confused looks.
"Baby, the help is on the way. Penelope knows and will help you to go to the hospital. She has a key, so don't worry. I'm on my way, okay? I'll call Tania too," Spencer informed you, moving to collect his things.
"Please, hurry up," you begged. As the call ended, Spencer turned to see his boss.
"Hotch. I have to-. I need to-," Spencer stuttered. Aaron nodded.
"It'll be okay; we are leaving now," he assured Spencer.
Morgan was the first to bring the elephant in the room.
"Can you tell us what's going on?"
Then, Spencer noticed the team hearing the whole ordeal.
"Uh. My 36-week pregnant girlfriend is giving birth to my daughter right now, and she's alone. I need to be there," Spencer succinctly explained as he dialed (Y/N)'s sister's number again without luck.
To say the team was shocked was an understatement. But there wasn't time to ask questions. They needed to move quickly.
Hotch was who took the lead.
"Morgan, you'll drive to the hospital with Reid and Prentiss now. I'll stay with JJ and Rossi to pack everything and follow you. The drive to DC is about three hours; make it two. I'll take care of the traffic police," he said to Morgan, who nodded, grabbing the car keys. "Prentiss, you'll get an open line with Garcia while she joins (Y/N) and takes her to the hospital. Now go!" Hotch instructed, now patting Spencer's back. "You'll get on time. Go," he told Spencer, who nodded and stomped from the room, followed by Morgan and Prentiss.
-
"Hey, Reid. We'll make it, kid," Morgan assured while driving on the highway, Emily as the copilot. In the back seat, Spencer couldn't stop bouncing his leg, worried about if the ambulance had already taken you to the hospital. On cue, Emily's phone went off.
"Garcia, you're on speaker," Emily announced.
"My lovelies, good news. I got your girl, boy Wonder, and we're heading to the hospital. Besides the pain, she's fine," Garcia recounted, and Spencer could breathe again.
"Can I talk to her?" Spencer asked.
"No, yet; they have her in the stretcher and with oxygen while monitoring her, but as we reach the hospital and will get her admitted, we can call you again. Nonetheless, she asked me to tell you she hated you for putting a baby in her. I really like this girl already," Garcia quipped, making laugh Emily and Morgan. Spencer's cheeks flushed.
"Garcia?" He sheepishly asked. "Can you tell her I love her and am on my way?"
Morgan and Prentiss looked at each other briefly. They still couldn't believe what was happening, but either way, they had a mission to accomplish: get to the hospital before you gave birth, so the resident genius could see his baby born.
"Sure thing. I will. I'll keep you posted," Garcia assured before hanging up.
Spencer could sense that Emily and Morgan were itching to cover him with questions, but knowing his nervous state, they were respectful enough not to say anything.
"I'm sorry, guys. I didn't tell you anything about (Y/N) before," he mumbled.
"And the baby," Emily added with a non-malice tone.
Spencer's face fell with embarrassment. They were his family, after all. And he kept this little big secret from them.
"But we get it, Reid. We do," Morgan ensured.
"Yeah?"
"Yes. We all know this job, and we want the best for our loved ones, keeping them safe," Prentiss said, turning to see Spencer, who nodded. "What I still can't believe is that you kept us in the dark for three years, and none of us ever suspected a thing. They should fire us," Emily added, making Spencer chuckle.
"What I can't believe is you were able to make someone fall in love with you," Morgan quipped, smirking and gaining a slap on the arm from Prentiss. "And get her pregnant! You have been having a game all this time, and I still thought I needed to be your wingman," Morgan scoffed.
"Worst wingman on earth. He had had to do all the work for himself," Emily added. The three laughed.
They were still with an ETA of one hour when Penelope Facetimed.
"Garcia! How is she?" Spencer rushed to ask.
"Hello to you, genius," Penelope greeted. "(Y/N) is already in a room. She's 7 centimeters of dilatation, so we're waiting," she informed, turning the camera to focus you on the bed, exhausted but relieved of being in the hospital already.
"Honey!" Spencer shouted as Garcia handed the phone.
"Are you coming?" you asked in a broken tone. You didn't have much energy at this point.
"Yes! On my way now. Morgan is driving us with Emily," he informed you.
"We're almost there, pretty girl!" Morgan yelled from the driver's seat.
You let a wary smile. Spencer only wanted to be there with you so he could hold you.
"I'm sorry," you mumbled.
"No. No. Why are you sorry? You have nothing to apologize for, okay?" Spencer hastened to point.
"Our little big secret is no longer a secret," you pouted, feeling guilty about the whole ordeal.
"Baby, it doesn't matter. The only thing that matters is you and our little girl being okay. Believe me; it's the only that matters to me. I'm sorry for leaving you," Spencer sniffled.
"I love you," you said, tears streaming down your cheeks.
"And I love you so much," Spencer declared, wiping his tears.
You both kept in Facetime for a while. Spencer tried to keep you focused on anything but the pain, though it was difficult when a deep contraction raked your body from time to time.
Spencer recited your favorite poems and stories and recounted your best memories together. As a natural thing, Emily, Morgan, or Penelope made questions and comments about the things you or Spencer said. That helped. You felt accompanied, not only by your boyfriend but also by the beautiful people who were taking care of you and him. If you ever thought Spencer's coworkers didn't care about him, now all those doubts are cleared.
"We're getting there in five!" Morgan announced.
"Garcia, please tell the staff Spencer is coming so they let him rush upstairs," Emily requested.
"On it!" Garcia chirped. âThe doctor is here, so Iâll hang up. Boy Wonder, the third floor, hall to the left,â she informed before the call ended.
Pushing the brakes in front of the hospitalâs entrance, Morgan turned to Spencer.
"Go, pretty boy. We'll be there waiting," the man assured.
"Go to see your girls," Emily added. Spencerâs eyes were full of tears.
"Thank you. Really, thank you so much," he voiced before climbing off the SUV and rushing inside the hospital.
-
The doctor announced you were almost ready to give birth now. Just another centimeter of dilation, and youâll need to push. After he left, you squeezed Penelopeâs hand hard. You weren't sure you could do this.
âItâs okay, pumpkin. You can do it. Spencer is already here,â she comforted you. Garcia had just ended her sentence when Spencer rushed inside the room, panting and looking frantically. When he spotted you, you could see the tears in his eyes.
âSpencer!â you cried. He quickly lugged to your side. Garcia sighed, relieved that he was there. Spencer held your hand now, kissing your temple.
âIâm here, my love. Iâm here. I wonât leave again,â he chanted, stroking your damped hair.
It was Penelopeâs cue to leave the couple alone. But before Garcia crossed the threshold, Spencer ran to her and wrapped her in the tightest embrace he ever gave her.
âThank you, thank you. For everything,â he mumbled. Garcia could have started crying, but it would be time for that later.
âAnytime, my love. Now go back to your woman. Weâll be outside waiting.â A grateful Spencer nodded before joining you again.
You didn't reach the last centimeter until an hour later. Spencer stood by your side, chanting praises and pushing away your sweat with a cloth whenever you needed it.
When the time came, you were pushing with all the strength you left, but your little girl wasnât doing it easy for you.
âSpencer, I canât,â you sobbed. Spencer kissed your head and stroked your hand.
âI know youâre exhausted, my love. But youâre almost there. Weâre going to meet our little girl. Want that, right, my little pumpkin?â he talked now to your belly. The waiting room is full of aunts and uncles, ready to see you. They already love you, even if they didn't know about you until three hours ago,â Spencer pointed, and you let out a little chuckle in the middle of the pain.
The feeling of being cared for and loved gave you the last ounce of energy you needed. In the next contraction, you pushed harder, ending with a loud baby cry. Your daughter was here.
When they put her in your arms, wrapped in a white blanket, you couldn't believe it. She was the most beautiful baby in the worldâthe best combination between Spencer and you.
âYou did so good, my love. Sheâs wonderful, and sheâs here with us,â Spencer said, voice full of emotion and tears freely rolling down his cheeks.
You couldnât stop looking at her.
âOur little big secret,â you cooed. âYouâre a lucky baby already,â you whispered to her. Spencer chuckled.
âShould I go to tell them?â He asked you.
âThey will kill you if you donât,â you quipped.
When Spencer showed up in the waiting room, Hotch, Rossi, and JJ were there too.
All eyes were on him.
âA 7 pounds, 2 ounces, and 19.6 inches healthy baby girl,â Spencer announced, the biggest grin plastered on his face.
The room erupted in cheers and claps, everyone taking turns to hug the new father.
Once everyone calmed down, Spencer cleared his throat.
âI want to apologize for keeping this from you. I don't want you to think I don't trust or care enough to tell you about the important things in my life. It's just- you know,â Spencer trailed off. Rossi patted his shoulder.
âWe know, kid. We really do,â the older man assured him.
âYeah, Spence. We understand. That doesn't mean itâs not a big thing, but we get it,â JJ seconded.
âWe are just jealous because Hotch was the only one who knew,â Garcia scoffed.
âBoss privilege, I guess,â Hotch shrugged, making the rest laugh.
âWell, being (Y/N) and baby Reid not a little big secret anymore, we can meet them properly, right?â Morgan pointed.
âOh, yes! Please! I want to meet my goddaughter!â Garcia chirped, and Spencer looked at her, frowning.
âDonât look at me like that, doctor. I won the privilege when I held that poor woman in pain,â she added.
âMaybe youâll be the godmother, but Iâll be the cool aunt,â Emily chirped.
âAnd Iâll be Papa Rossi,â David seconded.
Spencer shook his head, laughing as everyone on the team fought for a place in his daughter's life.
He was so happy to have you and baby Reid. But now his happiness was complete knowing he could share it, and his whole found family could be part of it.

a/n: season one, episode 18 'Somebody's Watching'
summary: lila archer gets in the way of you and spencer.
pairing: spencer reid x fem bau! reader
warnings: general cm topics, the team don't know about you and spencer, injuries, reader gets injured, spencer shoots someone. (i think that's it, tell me if i missed anything :))
-----------------------------------
You sat in your hotel room, confused at the events of the day. Maybe it was the sweltering LA heat, or maybe it was the awful way Lila and Spencer were making goo-goo eyes at each other.Â
You had been at the gallery with him and his sub-par flirting. At least Lila was happy. When Spencer had to leave he was practically begging you to convince Gideon to leave him with Lila.Â
-----------------------------------
âSprence, we have to go,â You grabbed his shoulder and went up on tip-toes to whisper in his ear. You started walking out of the gallery with Gideon and noticed Spencer didnât follow.Â
âSpencer!â Gideon called to him.Â
Spencer walked up to you. âDo you need me? Or c-can I stick around here for a while?â He smiled shyly.Â
âGideon wants you so Iâd just ask him,ââ you shrugged.Â
âBut⌠Can you just ask him?â Spencer pushed.Â
âSpencer!â Gideon called. âY/n!â
-----------------------------------
When Detective Kim asked you to look at the crime scene, and when the rest of the team was called, everyone knew that youâd be most helpful in this case. Youâd been in the violent crimes division which meant youâd be able to accurately tell them if it was a gang, what kind of killer it was, and why they were doing it. On top of that you were definitely the most qualified to talk to Lila Archer when she came back with the note from her stalker/ the unsub because of your year as a liaison on a team in London.Â
âHi, Iâm Agent Y/l/n, this is Agent Morgan, Agent Greenaway, Agent Jareau, Agent Hotchner, and of course, you know Agent Gideon and Doctor Reid,â you introduced the team as she came into the room. âAgent Morgan and I will ask you some questions, if thatâs ok?â
She nodded her head but her eyes stayed glued to where Spencer had his arm around you. You two were best friends, in the team's eyes. In reality, you two had been dating for the past 4 weeks. You hadnât told anyone since it was only new but you really liked him. But, you two had sex and he hasnât asked you out again. Granted, youâve both been busy but⌠doubt was starting to creep in.Â
-----------------------------------
âDid you know Natalie Ryan?â You asked.
âWe spoke when we were in public, but we were never friends,â she shrugged as she picked at her nails, clearly uninterested in what you had to say.Â
âWhat about Wally Mellman?â Morgan added.Â
âWhat about him?â she asked.Â
âHe was killed a few months ago, did you know him?â You asked.Â
Lila shook her head. âI read for a part but they went a different way.â
âWhat way?â Elle asked as she entered the room.Â
âThey cast another actress⌠it was Natalie,â she admitted.Â
âNice way to get rid of competition,â Morgan said, eyeing her agent beside her.Â
âHey it wasnât me! I brought her into this damn police station,â he defended.
âAlright, do you ever feel like youâre being watched?â You asked.Â
âAll the time,â she scoffed. âIt kind of comes with the territory.â
âYes, but an unusual amount,â you continued. âSomething out of the ordinary that happens regularly-â
âRepetitive phone calls with hang-ups, gifts left anonymously,â Morgan started listing.Â
Lila wasnât listening and she definitely wasnât cooperating.Â
âMs. Archer?â you asked. Her eyes snapped back to yours.Â
âPardon?â
âIs there something more important you could be doing right now?â You snarked.
âWhy isnât Dr. Reid in here?â She asked.Â
âHeâs busy,â Elle answered. âI can assure you, you are with the people you need to be with right now.â
âYes, but why do I need to be with all of you?â She asked and your blood boiled.Â
âBecause weâre the people on the team that have worked on stalking cases before, Dr. Reid, hasnât,â Morgan gritted out, anger spilling from him too.Â
âNow back to the questions, does something out of the ordinary happen on a regular basis?âm You asked.Â
âI receive flowers,â she admitted. âOn the 7th of each month they just appear in my trailer. Never a note, just a plain glass bowl. Red anemones, my favourite.âÂ
âAnd youâve never questioned who theyâre from?â Elle asked.Â
âCelebrities get anonymous gifts all the time, she has fans yâknow?âÂ
âDoes the number 7 mean anything to you? Did you meet anyone on the 7th, or in the 7th month of the year?â
âNo,â she said, definitively. âI would remember.â
âAlright, who would you have told about red anemones being your favourite flower?â you asked.
âI donât know, I guess my friends and family?â she sighed. âCan we be done now?â
âLila, I need a list of people who would know that those flowers are your favourite, like⌠my boyfriend knows that my favourite flowers are blue lilies-â Lilaâs eyes snapped to yours and immediately sized you up.Â
âWhoâs your boyfriend?â She asked. âAre you dating Spencer?â
âNo, I am not dating Dr. Reid,â you lied.Â
âWhy are you two so close?â She questioned.Â
âAm I interviewing you or are you interviewing me?â You snapped back. âMs. Archer, two people are dead because of you, thatâs the reality of the situation. Dr. Reid is working your case, just like the rest of us. So, I suggest you start cooperating before someone else gets hurt.âÂ
Lilaâs eyes clouded and glossed over, she left the room, sniffling and on the verge of tears. You didnât care. She was withholding information for no reason other than the fact that she liked Spencer.Â
âWhat happened?â Spencer demanded when he walked in. âLilaâs crying.â
You rolled your eyes. âFucking brat.â
Elle and Derek nodded their heads in agreement while Spencer pulled a face of confusion.Â
âSpencer, sheâs just like every other Hollywood starlet, selfish, self-centred, and really annoying,â Elle chuckled and both Derek and you laughed with her.Â
âShe's a person whoâs going through a very hard time right now,â he stated then turned his gaze on you. âand you spoke to her in an unprofessional way.â
You scoffed. âRightâŚâÂ
âI mean it, she told me what you said.âÂ
âYou mean⌠the truth? Two people are dead because of her,â you sighed. âListen Spencer, I donât want to fight you over your clear crush on her,â something you hadnât wanted to admit earlier. âSo go for it, sleep with her, kiss her, I don't really care.âÂ
Spencerâs eyes widened. He hadnât asked you to be his girlfriend yet. Youâd been on 4 dates. You two werenât âdatingâ.Â
âY/n-â Spencer tried but you got up.Â
âIâm going to grab some coffee,â you announced, then left with Spencer behind you.Â
âWhat do you mean you donât care?â Spencer asked in a small voice as he stood behind you.Â
âSpencer, we both know you have a crush on Lila, if you want to go for it, go for it,â you sighed.Â
âBut I⌠what about us?â
âWe both know you got what you wanted,â you shrugged. âI just never thought youâd be like that.â
âW-what am I like?,â he stuttered.
You ignored his stupid question.âAnd Spencer, I donât really take kindly to people questioning my ability to do my job, alright?âÂ
Spencer just nodded, and walked away.
-----------------------------------
You cared. You cared a lot.Â
Thatâs why you were sitting in your hotel room alone and crying, confused about the day.Â
There was a knock at the door. You opened it and found Gideon.Â
âEvening?â You questioned as you let him in, brushing the tears off your cheeks.Â
âYou and Spencer need to talk,â he stated.Â
âAbout what?â
âYour relationship, for one,â he sighed. âYou two are both in love with each other, we can all see it, and now youâve sent him off to go sleep with a movie star because he canât stop stuttering around her?â
You looked away in embarrassment. âThe goo-goo eyes didnât help,â you shrugged, speaking like a dejected child.Â
âWhat was your first date?â
âWe don-t- we arenât-â
âYes you did. Now tell me, what was your first date?â
âWe went to the cinema near his apartment, we saw this Italian film, âLa Chimeraâ, then we got lunch,â you rattled off.
âWhat was his body language throughout?â
âGideon-â you sighed.
âTell me,â he said sternly. Â
âHe was nervous, he kept messing with his hands, he was stuttering, and when I kissed him he tensed up for a few seconds,â you rolled your eyes at Gideonâs antics.Â
âExactly, and who is the only person on this team that Spencer genuinely seeks out to touch?â He asked.Â
âMe.â
âExactly.âÂ
âBut still, he also likes her and I donât know if you noticed but Iâm not her!â
âBut youâre you, and Spencerâs in love with you.â
You sighed. âI sent him off.â
âWhat?â He asked, horrified.Â
âI told him we were âcasualâ and that I didnât care if he dated someone else.â
âWhy would you do that?â He hissed.Â
âBecause I thought it was the right thing to do!â
âYouâre supposed to be intelligent!â He groaned.Â
âI know!â You shouted back.Â
Gideon sighed and walked closer, pulling you into a hug. âYou two will be ok.â
-----------------------------------
You sat beside Lila as she got into makeup. âIâm not stopping my life,â she stated.Â
âYeah, you mentioned that,â you sighed.Â
Spencer walked up beside you two with a coke in his hand.Â
Lila turned her nose up at the coffee that sheâd been drinking for the past few minutes and you almost laughed when she took his coke, expecting him to grab it right back. Your mouth dropped open when hee let her drink from it, then took a drink right after. She was called to the scene and you rolled your eyes.Â
âYou donât mind sharing with me, do you?â Derek teased.Â
âShut up.â
âGo get âem loverboy.â
When Spencer met your eyes you swore you saw regret, or some kind of remorse in them. You ignored it.
-----------------------------------
âWe were too late,â Gideonâs voice rang over your phone.Â
âShit, sheâs going to be devastated.âÂ
âDonât tell her yet,â he asked.
âCourse.â
You hung up and gathered Lila and Spencer and some of her things.Â
-----------------------------------
You got picked up by Derek and Detective Kim, and you sent Spencer and Lila on their way.Â
âHow are the two lovebirds?â Derek asked, exasperation and irritation clear in his voice.Â
âOh, theyâre all great, never a dull moment where she isnât trying to get into his pants,â you sighed as you three walked out of the paparazzo's apartment.Â
âWhere are we headed next?â you asked.Â
âLilaâs. We need to bring more people to her, maybe even get her to a safehouse,â Kim sighed. A motorcycle started and before you knew it, you were against the car and groaning in pain.Â
âY/n! Are you alright?â Derek shouted.Â
âYeah, it just grazed,â You nodded, looking at the flesh wound the bullet had left behind. âGet to Kim,â you told him. You reached for your gun and shot after the motorcyclist but they got away.Â
-----------------------------------
After being bandaged up, you and Derek sped to Lilaâs house to find Spencer and Lila soaked.Â
-----------------------------------
âI fell into the pool,â Spencer admitted sheepishly.Â
âSure, Iâm sure thereâs a bunch of photos of it,â you nodded sarcastically. You walked away, an uncertain heartbreak settling deep in your gut as you went through the photos, ripping them out, for his sake.
-----------------------------------
Spencer felt awful. He had been rude to you, heâd gone against you, heâd kissed someone else.Â
The entire time, all he could think about were the four times heâd kissed you.Â
-----------------------------------
One.Â
You two were outside the lunch place he loved and youâd both spent the entire meal talking about the film. It was comfortable, and probably too domestic to be a first date but Spencer didnât mind. He loved the way you and him were comfortable around each other.Â
âSo Iâll see you at work on Monday?â You smiled, that perfect smile that drove Spencer crazy.Â
âYes, you will see me at work on Monday,â he smiled, breathing out slowly. You chuckled, then wrapped your arms around his neck and pulled him down to kiss you. Your lips on his genuinely re-wired his entire being. He felt butterflies and heat run through him, until he kissed back. Then he knew that this was an addiction. That he wanted to kiss you every moment of every hour of every day for the rest of his life.Â
You had to guide his hands to your hips and it was a bit of a laughing/ kissing thing, but it was amazing all the same.Â
-----------------------------------
Two.Â
Spencer stood in your kitchen, grabbing his coat from the chair when you kissed him. This time he was prepared. His hands immediately went to your waist, large palms spanning over the navy colour of the sundress you were wearing. God you looked beautiful.Â
Again, your lips on his was something heâd never get enough of. How perfect you felt. How beautiful you were. He was sure he was in love.Â
-----------------------------------
Three.Â
You dragged him kicking and screaming to a farmerâs market, but in the end heâd enjoyed it. Heâd enjoyed it because youâd actually kissed him twice. Once when he remembered something minute about you (How could he ever forget?) and another time when youâd simply wanted to. You and that damn sundress.Â
-----------------------------------Â
Four.Â
You were at his apartment and you were on his lap. He had been painfully hard as you continued kissing him and slowly grinding down on him.Â
âDo you want toâŚ?â you asked, a hazy lust-filled smirk on your face.Â
Spencer just nodded.Â
âDo you have a condom?â You asked and chuckled when he sheepishly shook his head. âItâs fine, Iâm on birth-control,â you smiled and Spencer just followed your lead.Â
After what felt like hours of you just sinking down on his ridiculously large cock, you finally started moving.Â
âOh fuck,â you mumbled. âYouâre so big,â you groaned into his ear. Spencer whimpered as you slowly moved up and down his length.Â
As much as he didnât want to admit it, he had thought about fucking you, a lot. Sometimes you were under him, sometimes you were over him, it didnât matter. He wanted to fuck you.Â
And that he did.Â
After you fucked him on the couch, he turned it around and slammed into you with such vigour his couch moved. His fingers explored your core and once he ended up tasting you, he knew he couldnât go back. He spent half an hour between your legs, licking and fingering you, moaning with you as if he was getting pleasure from it as well, which he was.Â
Once the both of you were cleaned up you fell asleep in his bed with his arms firmly around you. The next morning you both smiled at each other, not exactly shy but still hesitant to talk about what had happened. Spencer knew that was the right moment to ask you, but he couldnât. He wanted you, all of you. He wanted you to be his girlfriend, then eventually his fiancee, and eventually his wife. Â
He was head over heels in love.Â
And when you kissed him sweetly, nothing like the sex-fuelled kisses from the night before, he thought heâd died and gone to heaven.Â
-----------------------------------
âW-what happened?â Spencer asked, signalling to the bandage on your arm.Â
âA bullet grazed me,â you shrugged.Â
âA-are you okay?â he asked.Â
âFine,â you gritted out. You didnât look at him, in fear of catching a glimpse of those damn puppy-dog eyes.Â
-----------------------------------
As Spencer apologised to Lila, you searched the house.Â
The house was big, too big for one person to live here but you digressed. As you searched you gave yourself a moment to think over the events of the past 48 hours.Â
âWhoâre you?â A blonde woman asked from her seat at the vanity.Â
âWhoâre you?â you asked, pulling your gun. âSpencer!â
You could hear Spencer and Lila running to you.Â
For the second time that night, you were on the floor bleeding. Great. The police officers out front started running into the house as Spencer reached you. Sheâd hit you in your chest.Â
âShit,â Spencer cursed. He pulled out his phone and called an ambulance. The officers took down Maggie and you were rushed to hospital.Â
-----------------------------------
Hours and hours of surgery later, you were awake with Spencerâs hand in yours.Â
âHi,â he smiled softly.Â
âHi.â
âIâm so sorry,â he sighed. âI was so stupid, I shouldnât have let you walk away like that. Iâm so sorry-â
âItâs alright,â you smiled. âIâm glad things worked out between you and Lila.â
Spencerâs face dropped. âI donât want Lila. I want you. Iâm in love with you. I only want you.â
Your heart sped up, you could hear it on the monitor. Both you and Spencer laughed.Â
âGood. Iâm in love with you too," you smiled once your laughter had subsided. Â
He leaned down and kissed you softly.Â
The fifth kiss.Â
