my student loans were paid off less than 10 years after I graduated from high school and less than four years after I graduated from college. it took less time to pay off my loans than it took to graduate from college.

my husband earned a doctorate without student loans and paid off our house in less than ten years.

we are under 35, own a home, and are debt free.

we had help doing it but it is still something to be proud of. it is an accomplishment and a victory. it did require sacrifice and financial responsibility, as well as discipline. we had a lot of help but we also made choices that ensured that help was put to good use and was not squandered. Not everyone had the opportunities we did; but we did not have the opportunities many others did.

it is okay to be proud of my husband and myself for our accomplishment.
