DOWNTOWN BOYS β’ CROW BABY β’ QTPI EXPRESS april 17 β’ bridgetown diy β’ 6pm β’ $10 flyer by @timeneedsme
Taking Space: a Prologue Taking space is a documentary compendium on how, why, and where individuals carve out and retain autonomous space, with a specific focus on Southern California. The prologue features three spaces in and around the Los Angeles area and the collectives that run them: Hyde Park Half, Bridgetown DIY, and Blood Orange Infoshop. While explaining the logistics of these collectively operated social centers, it sheds light on how the individuals who make up these collectives interact with one another and take up space within their communities.
This banner was originally painted for a black lives matter benefit show at bridgetown d.i.y. Many people asked me about the possibility of getting it on a shirt, so now Iβm making that happen. Some proceeds go to the I.W.W.βs General Defense Committee bail fund. Pick the shirt up at enmassedistro.limitedrun.com
la bella | aug. 5th, | bridgetown d.i.y. this show was a benefit for the I.W.W.βs bail fund, which is being used to get black lives matter militants out of jail.

Flier for G.L.O.S.S., Pure Disgust, Fire Walker & C.L.U.B at Bridgetown on the 14th of August.
**SIGNAL BOOST PLEASE! ** D.I.Y. SPACE IN NEED OF HELP!** Bridgetown D.I.Y. is one of the last remaining autonomously operated infoshops and d.i.y. music/arts spaces in southern california. After a spat of local d.i.y. spaces being shut down (Pehrspace, Blood Orange Infoshop and The Dial), our community faces the brink of losing the brick and mortar groundwork of our independent, queer friendly and politically radical network of community spaces. Bridgetown has played host to hundreds of shows, workshops and other events over the three years that it has existed. The space itself is operated by an open collective, of which anybody can join and help to make decisions about how the space is run.
At the moment, the space has fallen into a deficit mostly due to unforeseen circumstances. If we are unable to make up the cost of our rent and bring in new collective members, we fear that the space may be forced out of its home. Please, if you have expendable income, consider donating it to the space so that it can continue operating. Follow this link to donate: http://www.rally.org/bridgetowndiy

I donβt understand why people find it difficult to not talk shit about something they havenβt taken the time to investigate to any extent. I feel that most pseudo-left anti-communists are afraid of having their beliefs challenged and so they resort to platitudes against Marxists in order to preserve their worldview. Marxism is a science and has engaged practically every subject there is. However much someone may disagree we have been far from lazy in our research and attempts to solve problems.
On the other hand anti-communists only have βcheck your privilegeβ or βyouβre all white menβ (which erases the countless POC, LGBTQ, and female Marxists who have contributed to Marxist theory and movements).
At this point Iβve learned not to engage these people because there is no sincerity in their critiques. The argument is a loop of insults, vague arguments, generalizations claimed as facts, and immature attitudes. For the most part these are youth who believe their circles and academic courses have sufficiently trained them to lead movements, but in fact itβs the classic petty-bourgeois attitude Marxists have criticized for so long. These are people who became mesmerized with themselves, while the world turns without them and they put their effort into destroying the people they have trivial disagreements with. Itβs no surprise that at labor rallies, protests, meetings, etc you can always find one Marxist. But the people criticizing us are rarely to be seen except in their individual cliques or universities.
recently near our hometown, members of the kkk decided to attempt to slither out of the shadows and make a show of force. they were met promptly with the fists and feet of brave anti-fascists. in the melee, a number of anti-fa were arrested and one was stabbed. a legal defense fund has been set up to support those arrested and wounded. in order to support this effort, we will be donating all proceeds from digital sales of our records to this fund - starting tonight and ending on wednesday. both the individuals who make up la bella and the band as a collective are uncompromisingly anti-fascist. we will always have the backs of those who choose to resist racist violence. our records can be found here: labella.bandcamp.com

Andy & Cameron screen printing zine covers at Bridgetown DIY for La Bellaβs new record, Ides.
Releasing a record that weβre proud of has required a lot of labor from us, both physical and mental. Originally we had intended to have the LP out and be playing a release show by this time - but a number of delays have made that more difficult than anticipated.
Even with the delays, weβve been keeping busy - adding to and improving the insert that will go along with the record.
At the moment it looks like things are in order for the record to be out before winter is over, likely very early next year. As things progress, weβll let you know where we stand.
Hereβs a photo of two of us screen printing a portion of the insert last week, shot by Daniel Torres.
