we seriously need to stop conceding to the personhood trap when it comes to abortion rights. is a fetus a person? thats a spiritual question. i dont care about the answer. should another person dictate what someone can do with their body? simple answer: no.

like if a fetus isnt a person it has no right to my body and if a fetus IS a peson it also has no right to my body because there is no other context in which we are required to put ourselves at risk of physical harm to preserve another persons safety or even life.

you dont have to save someone from drowning even if youre a strong swimmer. even in death youre not required to donate organs and that could save several people. you can kill someone if you truly believe your safety is at risk. we dont mandate preservation of life over autonomy in any of these circumstances.

i really appreciated your tags @gray-warden on my post about pregnancy cause yessss that's exactly where my frustration lays. i think because pregnancy is a natural process and that being born happens to literally everyone on earth, lots of people have a very abstract concept of it. it's most obvious when someone says "why abort? why not just have the baby adopted?", which is like saying "why not just run a marathon?" or "why don't just climb mount everest?"

the fact of pregnancy as it exists now is that one parent does 99% of the work of creating a baby, and that parent is going to experience unique things because of that. being forced to gestate is an issue for which there isn't an opposite, equal problem. not everything has to be like something else

and btw, i saw a man the other day say "men don't have reproductive rights!", by which he meant that if you accidentally get a woman pregnant, you can't decide what happens next. it's very funny that so many men have a very 19th century view of contraception as a woman's burden, since a man back then would carry none of the shame and could just walk away a lot of the time. now, we have child support laws, paternity tests, and some of them still just assume it's up to the woman to handle that, and then get mad when she gets pregnant and can decide alone if she keeps the pregnancy or not. oh, the hardships. so sad!!
