The VOID

That afternoon when he sees the bag in the living room, he’ll put his hand in and feel the linen, “oh did you buy yourself something?”

Curious, he’ll pull them out to look them over.

“No, I thought you might like them,” you say, looking up from your phone.

He’ll purse his lips and look them over a few times. Then he puts his hand back in the bag and pull out the cream ones, now he’s really looking at you like you’re crazy.

“Babe, just try them.”

“I don’t know…”

“They’re going to feel great in the heat.”

“I know but cream?”

“Noah,” you sigh. He gives you a look. He knows you’re serious if you’re using his name instead of some pet name. “You wear brown pants.” You’ll remind him.

“Fine,” he’ll murmur.

He’ll take his shorts off in the middle of your living room and slip them on. Then he’ll just stand there (🧍🏻‍♂️) looking at you.

“Ohhh look at you!” Even paired with the random black band T-shirt they have on, they do look nice.

He’ll roll his eyes at you. Used to your usual hyping him up when he tries on new clothes. There’ll be a little blush on his face and he’ll roll his eyes like he doesn’t like it but the way he smiles tells you everything.

“Let me see the back!” You’ll joke just to get a reaction from him.

“See I told you, this doesn’t work.” He’ll start to unbutton them and you’ll shout, “babe, go look in the mirror. They look really good.”

He goes into the hallway mirror and you can see him processing it. He stands, tucking in his shirt. He’ll turn to one side and then the other. Giving himself tiny approving nod.

“So what do you think?” You’ll ask.

“I’ll pack them. I don’t know if I’ll wear them,” he’ll say slipping them off and putting his shorts back on.
