About this:

This is a story I wrote for a course. I wanted to use a dark background that would be easy on the eyes, and also keeping it in line with the main scene in the story that transpires in the night. The crescent and star burst icons are from flaticons.com; the full moon icon I made by tweaking the crescent moon, which was an interesting experience since I haven’t yet delved into the world of flat icons, or Illustrator for that matter.

Overall, the amgazine was a good experience because it forced me to familiarise myself with Illustrator. Hopefully I’ll get more familiar with it as time goes by :)

I wrote this article recommending some instagram accounts to follow. Anushay initially made the cover page but got stuck, so being inspired by her I made a few changes to the title page, and created a straightforward theme with all the profile photos aligned, a header style, sub-headers, and lines here and there to kind of act like a design accent... if that’s a thing xD

This poem was written by Hannan Aman Umrani. I decided to play with some images and create something eyecatching that could correspond with the theme... like setting the stage so a great work can take center stage.

This was written by Syed Muhammad Husain Zaidi. It was an interesting experience since I don’t get to work with Urdu that much, but this magazine really gave me the chance to do so. Decided to match the colours and keep a simple theme.... again. I just love playing with simple ideas; I feel that it’s effective but interesting.

About this: This was written by Uzair Ibrahim, our editor for this issue. For this, I wanted to keep it simple but in a different kind of way; I wanted to play with negative space and colour. So I picked this turquoise shade, and wrote editorial in that exaggerated way in the corner so that it stands out. I suppose I wanted it to have a modern class to it.

About This:

This is a personality review/interview of one of our students conducted by Anushay Zehra Rashid and Eeman Ubaid. I decided to design this in a similar fashion to the faculty interview, by keeping it simple and clean with a white background, and picking out a few colours for the theme. Since the faculty interview was reds and pinks, I decided to contrast that by picking some blues and greens with a grey accent.

This was a faculty interview conducted by Syed Sameer Nadeem and Mo’awwiz Arshad Shaheen. The faculty interview is something that will be a regular feature in all the future issues, so I decided to keep a simple, clean layout, and used Tim’s photo to pick out two colours that I alternate between in the layout. I like it because everything matches :) I also wanted to design it in a minimal way so that it could act as a template for future layouts, though at this point I don’t know how we’ll be proceeding with designs in the next issue.

About this:

First image is of the cover of the first issue. I made the image by collaging an assortment of images. Anis Punjwani incorporated it into the cover by making it a two page spread. He also designed the magazine logo.

Second image is the first page of the cover story, which was written by Zahra Mukhi. Since this was the cover story, I decided to make a special header page for it, again with an assortment of photos. The rest of the article however, I kept simple.

About this article: I wrote this article/compiled this playlist. Initially, another member of our design team (ANUSHAAAYYY) was making this, but she got stuck after making the keyboard and dark background. So i took over, lightened the background to a nice grey shade, got some flat icons, and basically tried to make a layout that would be easy on the eyes and replicate the night time feel. Extra creds to Anis Punjwani for fixing the keyboard keys.
