I do not own Hazbin Hotel, the show belongs to @vivziepop​ and created by her group Spindle Horse. All I did was gather the screenshots. The purpose of this is not to steal from Vivzie and crew, simply to provide a resource for rp, art ref/challenge, analysis, GIF making, and/or animation study.

I feel like writing winged characters (feathered, furred, scaled, astral, bionic, etc whatever your jam is,) very much depends on your own style of writing and what you prioritise for characters, and that you should play around with different ways of writing them for yourself to find what matches you best.

 Describing them with visuals can be enough for some, but then there are other ways you can go about it such as:

Sensory Awareness - How aware of different temperatures, textures, weights, pressures that are being placed upon them? Are they sensitive? Are they one with the air and can feel the slightest changes around them, or are they “Yup, that’s wind alright. Breezy.” 

Sentimentality Awareness - How do they react to the owner’s emotions? Do they go all fluffy when they’re embarrassed or angry? Do they quiver when they’re upset or stressed? Do they flick and flutter in anxiety? Give yourself an emotional shorthand for what they do because you can have some fun and variety with that between different characters.

Spacial Awareness - How do they interact with the world around them? Are they bumping into things constantly or are they extremely aware of how they move around their environment. Do they have trouble sitting in chairs or going through doors? Or are they in an environment where they only think about it when they accidentally bash their wing like you stub your toe on a chair?

Strain Awareness - Like you have a limit as to how much your arm can bend in certain positions and how heavy a weight you can lift, the same goes for wings, figure out their limits as to how much they can carry and how long for. Saying “they can go at xxMpH” is good but how long can they maintain that for?  Probably give yourself a maximum Speed-Distance-Time-Altitude for your characters before they need rest. 

Other possible things to think about:

Social context (are they obscure or benign in your own worlds and scenarios)

Size and shape.

Texture

Growth (are they fully grown yet or juvenile?)

Cleanliness

Itchiness (Lice and derbis!)

Injuries and damage

Strength and power

Endurance

Flexibility

How heavy are they?

Posture

Overall Movement

Decoration (either through paint, dye, or jewellery)

How do they interact with clothes?

“Stop being so fucking stubborn and let me help!”

“You can’t help me out with this one, I’m sorry.”

“Hate me afterwards, for now just shut up and let me help.”

“I don’t… who am I kidding… fine, go ahead.”

“Why wouldn’t I be here for you, you idiot?”

“Not that bad huh? Say that to me without flinching.”

“I’m not getting it because you won’t let me!”

“We’ve known each other for how long and you still don’t trust me?”

“I know it’s you but… I just… I don’t know.”

“I’m going to take care of this- no! No don’t you even start.”

“Yeah yeah, complain now, you’ll thank me later.”

“Here, take this. No you don’t need to apologize, I get it.”

“Congrats, you have me pinned and now have my attention.”

“I see your point, okay? I get it, I’m a moron.”

“Well this is where we got to, so now what?”

“I blame you, and I don’t care how little sense that makes, this is your fault.”

“Can I just be irrational and vent my nonsensical frustrations out without you trying to logic a sense of calm into me?”

“You’re tired. You’re grumpy. You need a break.”

“This by far has to be one of the ideas that falls under ridiculous and stupid, but yet I’m here helping you anyway.”

“You wanna… you want to- yep you want to rant okay.”

“So someone is clearly out of fucks…”

“Give me five minutes to change your mind.”

“What is it gonna take for you to come down from there?!”

“This plan is stupid. You’re insane. Yet here I am.”

1) Pick a character - from a book, a show, your OC, whatever.

2) Describe at least one flaw of the character.

3) When the flaw was shown in the medium in meningfull way? - particular scene, please! (Not told by author or characters - shown in action!)

4) What bad consequence did it cause? (If it caused good consequence - it's not the flaw storywise.)

If you follow these, you'll avoid any Mary Sue/Garry Stru situations&accusations. More likely. Flaws makes characters more human-like, more intresting. Audience can relate to the character, feel empathy thoward them. Also the character can struggle with the flaw, works to overcome it and changes into better person so yay, not static character (also if you use flaws as a plot points you need to ground them and show them many times before the change).

So let's try this execise on our favourite characters. I'll first! :D

1) I'll pick my favorite and IMO the best written character in the RWBY - Jaune Arc. (thanks Kerry~)

2) The flaw - Jaune can't control his emotions and easly lose his cool. Plus he has tendencies to overreact. Especially if something dare happens (or happened) to people he loves.

3) and 4) The flaw was shown mamy times but more recent examples: Volume 5 when he picked suidical duel with Cinder -> Because of that his friend was mortally wounded. And Volume 6 when he heared about game-changing info he threw hands on Oscar (who told about). -> He immidiatly felt remorse but needed time to calm down and rethink. In consequence Oscar run away and made everyone sick worry (including an audience). In the resolve Jaune dearly apologized Oscar and Oscar accepted that. Now they're friends, if you wonder.

Seizure First Aid. 

“C’mere – I am an amazing big spoon.”

“You’re so short! How can you expect to be the big spoon?”

“I’ve.. never been the little spoon before.” 

“You’re softer than a pillow…”

“Everyone thinks this is so intimate, being in bed together… I just want to sleep.”

“Can you scratch my back? It always helps me sleep.”

“Ahh, you’re like my personal bedwarmer! So warm…”

“Jeez, why are you so hot!”

“I talk in my sleep, just so you know.”

“Why are you so far away? Scoot closer.”

“That’s my favorite pillow! Give it back!”

Bonus; the morning after!

“My favorite part of last night was definitely you snoring in my ear.”

“How is it that you’re so small, but still managed to take up all of the bed?”

“Good morning! I’ve made breakfast, here –”
