Claire was annoyed all through the quidditch match and nothing changed once it was over. She was still irritated about Jaxon even though she really did think he flew well and she was even more irritated that Ravenclaw had won. Just when she thought her day couldn’t get any worse than having to spend five hours talking to Sirius Black, Vale started a conversation with as she was walking up to the castle. “Oh God, does it have to be this sick bastard.” Claire yelled, her eyes burning with fury. “What the fuck do you want, asshole?”

“Oh god, must you always yell?” He mused as he placed his hands in his pockets. “Please do continue, just prove my point of how irrationally insane you are, should I owl St. Mungos? Surely they’d like to make a study out of you.” Vale suggested with a nonchalant shrug. “I just came to watch you not play, it’s a shame your obnoxious commentary ruined further such a boring game.” 

“Come on. No one saw anything,” Jaxon assured his latest conquest, chuckling as he held their hips from behind. He stepped back, giving them a final kiss to the cheek and he stepped away. Looking up, he saw that he’d been spotted and smiled, “How’s it going?” 

“If I were you I’d change my wording because I saw pretty much everything and let me tell you, I barfed a little.”

“If you could just stop making assumptions about me… that’d be freaking great, thank you!” glenda felt herself getting flustered and his play on words did nothing to subdue her sudden interest. “Because that’s what I saw! I’m not going to apologize again for being able to see through your charade, you foolish purist!” 

“If you could stop acting like a spoiled princess, that would be fucking brilliant!” He said with a sardonic expression. Foolish purist, the words replayed in his head over and over again up to the point where he didn’t know whether to send a curse her way or just laugh hysterically. “You are bloody insane, and if you think I will tell you anything, well you are wrong princess. Now do me a favor and just get lost. Forget I said anything.” 

“Proved you wrong, again, what a great feeling.” she sarcastically said, though looking confused at his later statement. “What do you mean by that? Since when does anything I do, other than keeping your secrets, concern you?”

“I thought you didn’t care.” he pointed out coolly. Vale hated himself for feeling anything for the girl standing in front of him, but something had changed since he saw his boggart and he couldn’t comprehend what it was. “Since I- since you decided to play pretend and think there’s good in me.” 

“Like being with me?” She asked softly, looking up at him. Despite how much she disagreed with Vale’s reasons for their breakup, she still cared for the boy. Doris was a caring person in general. “Because even though we aren’t together, I still care about you. That, and I’m not high as a kite right now.”

“Yes.” He said simply and with a nod... at least he had convinced himself that being with her had been nothing but some sort of teenage mistake. Still, that didn’t just erase the fact that she knew him a bit better than others. “Haven’t you heard that is a waste of time to do such things? You clearly have to get back to your drugs because everything you are saying is making you sound delirious.” 

“I won’t. We’ll strike when you least expect it.”

Vale smirked, unable to hide his fake enthusiasm. “Can’t wait, Talkalot, better stop talking to me and get to work.” 

“Talk to me?” Evangeline repeated, raising an eyebrow at him. “About what..?”

“Yes...” Vale said with nod. “I don’t know, you... me. You, mostly.”

She could see the fury in his eyes, it was something she recognized from herself when she would blow up, so his outburst wasn’t surprising to her. Instead she got up, walking over to him to inspect the wand the man was holding out. “I’m talking about the fact that you’ve got an air of murder about you Val, i’m just waiting for them to come and cart you off to Azkaban.” She took the broken parts out of his hands, inspecting them before looking up with a frown. “How the fuck did you manage this? You’ve got to get a serious hold on your temper. And that’s coming from me.” They both were known to fly off the handle occasionally, maybe that was why they were so close, kindred spirits in a way. 

His jaw hardened at her words. He didn’t need her to point out the obvious; yes, he had messed up but he wasn’t going to get caught... even if for a slight moment that’s what he had desired. “I don’t think so,” he said through gritted teeth before putting the pieces back in his pocket. “If anybody asks I’ll just say I tried apparating while at Hogsmeade and it turned out bad.” That was the best thing he could come up with even if not entirely believable. “It was fucking Claire Fawley... that blood traitor, she slapped me and I lost control.” He said with an exasperated sigh as he let himself fall onto the nearest couch, frustratedly running his fingers through his hair. “It’s just too much. I don’t have control of anything anymore.”

“I wouldn’t know.” He wasn’t surprised when their talk took a typical turn, “It doesn’t since that has nothing to do with whether I’m being honest.”

“I do, I deal with them all the time.” He said simply. “Are you sure about that? More often than not whoever I end up dealing with is a muggleborn and a liar and a thief.”

“I want to do it here. It’s not forbidden. So please, move just a tiny bit.”

“It is now,” Vale said with a roll of his eyes before forcing a smile. “You want to sit here, you are going to have to move me.”
