“Well, that sounds good, then.” They ought to have enough money, but it was always good to make sure it wouldn’t be wasted. Frugality hasn’t really been a major problem - she just is. Though not necessarily about everything. For big things, though, she likes to have a plan. “Exactly, it won’t help anyone if we’re in debt. A profit’s a far better place to be in for something like this.” It’s a long list, but if they’re both invested in it, things out to go fairly smoothly. “That’s true. Better start looking into the licensing process soon-ish, since it’ll likely take a while. But buildings first seems like the smartest path.”

“Definitely, and that’s hard to do, even if I was able to find some way to avoid surprises.” Work had a fairly steady demand, but it wasn’t like clockwork - always something coming up at an inconvienient time. “I think I can, in the end. Especially once they get friendly and used to each other. Then at least, they won’t be lonely when I’m gone. And you’ll have yet another dog to spoil rotten. Don’t think I don’t know that’s part of your motivation.” But she’s really only teasing.

“You know me far too well.” And Victor’s obviously been thinking about this for awhile, given the fact that he’s got a whole folder dedicated to this dream. She took the folder, flipping through the pages within, nodding as she read his notes and the plans. “That’s very true. Even more time. Though, some living space might be nice, just in case. But that’s good to know. I might keep mine as well, though I suppose I could also just steal yours.” She nods, still going through the pages. “It looks good, and if we can get it off the ground with minimal debt, that’s the important thing. This is so exciting! I - we should start on it as soon as possible.”

“Yeah, that’s true. We’d have to actually manage a herd of dogs and as much as that would be fun, it’d be a lot more than what I’m used to.” It’s a decent idea, though and she can appreciate the sentiment. “I can’t really say no, can I? I’ll just cave in the end.”

She sighs. “Fine. I’ll talk to him. But you have to promise me that you’’ll at least bring it up to him at some point in the future.” Sherlock is difficult and obviously pushing him to do too much isn’t going to work. Especially now that he’s sulking. “Is everything mostly all right with you, Sherlock? Besides Victor being an idiot, of course. Asking as a friend, not a doctor.”

“Yeah, that’s not really how it works. Me working behind anyone’s back doesn’t do either of you any good. Victor’ll just wonder why you didn’t come to him first.” They deserve each other, the idiots. “Sorry, you’ll have to try someone without a psychology degree, in that case.”

“Have you considered telling him this? As much as I enjoy seeing you, communication between friends is very important, especially in situations like this. I can only be so persuasive with Victor.”

“Ah.” She knows what to do, how to talk about things, but this is a little more personal than normal. “I can see how that would be concerning. This may or may not help, but I’m pretty sure he’s not going anywhere. And,” She’s more confident in this, “if he does go anywhere, he’s going to remain in contact with people at home. Or I’ll track him down and drag him back myself.” 

“Ok.” She’s concerned a moment, but Victor’s not going to spring anything terrible on her - or so she hopes that he’d be a little better if he was. She nods at that - they both know this, but it’s not really been a priority before. “Oh, wow.” She’d never thought of that. It’s a lot to take in, as he said before, but it’s a good idea. “That would be amazing! Can you imagine? Not that you haven’t already, but -. It’s perfect - we could easily do large and small animal and still have plenty of space to live in some part of the house. I’d love to do that!” As much money as they have, they can’t just rush into it. “We should make a budget, make sure it can all work out.”

“I suppose that is an option. More space, more dogs. Sounds heavenly.” Certainly they had the money for that - and the space for it, too. They wouldn’t have to buy any property if they just used the estate. “Us and what time? But yes, we should. One day.”

“Yeah, of course. It’s been on a list for a long time.” It was hard to tell what they ought to do with it - it was their home, but it was large and would be rather expensive to keep up as such. “Really? Do tell.” He’s thought about this a lot, she can tell. Not that Victor would ever be completely thoughtless, not about something like this. “I certainly hope so. What’s the idea?”

“Yes, I suppose so. There’s a lot worse things he could be doing.” And it’s concerning that Mycroft would bring something that up. “I should count myself lucky, yes. It wasn’t easy when he was in India, but nothing terrible happened. What do you worry about, if I might ask?”

She’s not going to comment on the cigarette, but she still takes note of it. It’s habit, trying to pick up cues from people, even if she much prefers actually talking to them. “Yeah, I’m rather proud of it. I guess we both got lucky - well, I assume he also thinks it’s lucky since he’s still talking to me.” She avoids asking the obvious question - why date them, then? “That’s too bad.” Madison laughs lightly at that, however. “I’m glad you like my brother because I like you as well, and I’d hate for him to date someone I didn’t like. I’d have to make their life hell. It’s my duty as a little sister and I’m slightly concerned about what I’d be capable of.” 

“Most of the time is the important part there. One day he’s going to come home with more dogs than he knows what to do with.” And there was that one time when he was off in India and didn’t contact her, but that’s personal. “Worrying means you care, and that’s a good thing. So you’ve got that at least.” 

“You can adopt seven if you like, but I do not have space for that. However, I will gladly spoil them. Hah - perfect. Now I know your true weakness. I mean, I sort of already knew it, but I’ve got confirmation now.”
