MY FIRST DANCE COMPETITION

The other day I was looking through photos and ran across these pictures of Melvin Scurry and me. I went back in time to our high school days when danced during our lunch period. We enjoyed dancing with each other that we found a studio in Brooklyn, New York.

We quickly caught the attention of Walter and Gloria Darrien the owners of the studio. They encouraged us to compete and soon after began to coach us to get us ready for one of the largest and famous Competition in United States The Harvest Moon Ball.

For us to compete, we had to enter to qualify at the Roseland. ballroom. When I tell I was so nervous I had never danced in front that many people in my life let alone compete. Melvin assured me he would make the costumes and Gloria Darrien helped shape our routine and she had us perform at the social party where these pictures were taken.

An Angel has been called

On October 17, 2020, at 3 pm I was notified that Doreen who had fallen very ill had died. I just cannot even begin to process that. See Doreen was full of life and her energy was felt every time you saw a picture heard her song or read her posts. She managed through these trying times to be sharing all of the positive things she was doing with us. Her light and presence filled everything she did with love and light. An awesome talent of Broadway Television and Film. I love you Doreen my love you have left an imprint in my life.
