I'm MT, i've been into TYK and Qiye for a while (still translating it, checkout @lordseventhby7), but i'm currently going crazy about Philippe d'Orléans and everything about him so bear with me
But with something different 👉👈I've been losing my mind about Monsieur, Philippe d'Orléans (brother of king Louis XIV) recently and don't know what to do with all that energy, felt like I need to share it somewhere, but don't feel like starting a new space all over like I did with my previous hyperfixation.
(IDK why, I like fandoms neatly separate and organized, but I need to make some changes in my life, anyway--)
I'm STILL not done with Qiye, I promise the TL is making (slow) progress, but in the meantime I'm gonna go all crazy about french history from the XVII century and likely post in french and english a lot more and yeah, that's it, haha.
In the meantime, here above is my new obsession, Philippe d'Orléans in the center, known to be a debauched sodomite and yet he's so much more than that (I've been DEVOURING BIOGRAPHIES AND EVERYTHING I COULD FIND AUGH), surrounded by three of his most prominent favourites, which... I'll yap about as well in no time.
So yes hi hello MT is going through some recycling and now means Monsieur Time I guess 🙌🙌🙌🙌
Also I've been having some fun with new techniques and I'll probably yap about that as well. And the books I'm reading UNDENIABLY.

Impromptu followup to my previous comic with Philippe and Anne-Marie-Louise d'Orléans! I have so much fun with them, I needed to add a little something. Next two pages, and FR version below the cut!
I had so much fun, not only with the main duo, but also with the costume party setting. Anne-Marie-Louise was often paired up with Philippe for costume parties and they reportedly dressed up as shepherdesses together.
I'm not sure how historically accurate a fantasy of a love marriage is, but I was mainly inspired by how romantic Anne-Marie-Louise was, and how I like to imagine Phil being as well, in his own way. It was a good way to have fun with Armand as well.
Special mention to Chev who initially wasn't meant to be in the comic but I couldn't resist making him the guy too broke to afford any other costume than his pajamas, and Effiat who half-assed his bunny costume.
Needless to say, while I was greatly inspired by many anecdotes (including Anne-Marie-Louise greatly disliking Armand), this is all made up and from my imagination!
how do u characterize phil ii? i am attempting to write him so i’d love ur insights
That’s a super fun question!! I don't have books near me rn so you'll have to forgive the lack of quotes, but don't hesitate if you want some concrete examples, i'll find some! i’ll admit i haven’t actually written much with him beyond the comics yet the evil version from my favorite cartoon doesn't count, so i’m still kinda figuring it out too! It might vary a bit depending on when the thing you’re writing is taking place? BUT there are a few fun key points, so here it is:
THE PHILIPPE II CRASH COURSE.
well. this got longer than expected so i'm adding a cut OOPS
One of the things that come up over and over is that he was, ultimately, kind and quick to forgive; unable to hold a grudge for very long and willing to ignore things that a lot of people would’ve been resentful for. It’s something Saint-Simon (but he definitely isn’t the only one!) laments a lot; the way his forgiveness could, in the eyes of a lot of people, so easily be seen as weakness. He preferred to laugh things of rather than making head rolls; but the truth is when something actually mattered enough, he could very much make a decision.
And in a sense, that connects to another main thing: laughter! It comes up so much whenever contemporaries write about him. Faced with insults and enemies, he would laugh things off and let it go, he sought the company of people who could make him laugh and always loved having the last, smartass word in a conversation. He was a funny guy and he valued that a lot in other people. Liselotte mentions in one of her later letters how he would always take some time to visit her, and would always find the words or the right story to make her laugh.
He loved his parents! We know more about his relationship with Liselotte since she wrote so much about it, but frankly there isn't anything to let us know he wasn't in good terms with his father too. The way i see it, he took after both of them a lot : Monsieur's easy-going nature and Liselotte's sharp side and curiosity! AND all three of them had a strong sense of humor too, let's be real. One thing he did NOT have in common with them was patience! As Liselotte said (in a quote that very much echoes my very first point haha) :
He was smart and a lot sharper than people often gave him credit for; perfectly able to play people against each other to get what he wanted out of them. Louis XIV had his “I’ll see”, Philippe’s version of that was closer to “sure, I guess” : he had this infuriating habit of agreeing with people only to later do what he likely had already decided instead! This lead to a lot of the frustration you can feel when reading Saint-Simon’s memoirs: Saint-Simon was one of his close friends, and it does seem like Philippe valued his opinions and judgement… but they also clearly disagreed on a lot of things. Like, y’know, how to run a kingdom.
He likely had a bit of a nerd streak; Louis XIV jokingly called him "the doctor of the family", and that might've also been a thinly-veiled criticism because he did get into things with more passion and interest than was typically expected of nobles at the time? In that a prince was expected to be interested in things, of course, but not to get invested as deeply as Philippe did. He was passionate about science (the Palais-Royal had its very own lab where he would make experiments and create perfumes!), music (he composed a lot of music, some of which you can listen to here! And here! ) and painting/drawing (he illustrated (he def had some help, but still!) an edition of Daphnis et Chloé, one of his favorite books!), but really you kinda get the sense that he was just passionate about anything new that captivated him, changing interests fast, always willing to learn about new things. That kinda went for his love life as well: he had multiple mistresses, but as far as we know he never got particularly attached to them even if he enjoyed their company.
A lot of people theorize that he must’ve been a bit shy, and maybe he was, but also you just kinda get the sense that he wasn’t super into court life in general? Which is amusing because he could perfectly play that role… when he wanted to. He fiercely valued his private life, typically preferring the company of a few close friends over big crowds.
During Louis XIV’s reign, as time went on and he was being kept away from any sort of power, he dedicated his life to his pastimes and pleasures, caring very little about his reputation and generally doing as he pleased. He kept himself busy by indulging in his (numerous!) hobbies, but ultimately you kinda got the sense that he was bored and aimless.
On a battlefield he was very much like his father: eager to go into battle, brave to the point of carelessness and, from what we did get to see, very talented in general.
Once he became regent, he threw himself into work and followed a pretty strict schedule, which is hilarious because no one expected that from him! He showed himself to be hardworking and generally seemed to enjoy the challenge, but he also drew a VERY strong line between his work and his leisure time. He worked until 8PM, and from then on it was Philippe Time : he would not hear a word about his job or about politics. There’s this funny bit from Saint-Simon where he’s kind of impressed because apparently no matter how drunk Philippe would get, you couldn’t get him to reveal a single state-related secret.
AND. Off the top of my head, that's kinda it for now!!! i could ramble a lot more, but i'll try to keep this relatively short. But don't hesitate if there's anything you'd like to know!! And you better share that writing when you finish it 👀👀👀👀
“On multiple occasions I have refused considerable advantages so as not to leave His Royal Highness, to whom I am deeply attached and by whose side I want to remain for the rest of my life.” – Guillaume Dubois
(Previous part here!)
Dubois was right : he stayed close to Philippe II d’Orléans for pretty much the rest of his days. The two pretty much always remained close, trusted friends.
Much has been written about Dubois’ ambition and how, from simple preceptor without a single drop of noble blood, he clawed his way all the way to the top and became cardinal and prime minister. And yeah, he was ambitious, for sure! But I think it’s worth noting that up until the Regency, Philippe II d’Orléans was destined to basically nothing. No one expected him to do much and like Monsieur before him, he was carefully kept away from any form of power. And yet that didn’t stop Dubois from staying by his side! So really my take is, sure, Dubois was extremely ambitious, but more than anything he used that ambition to serve a prince he was extremely loyal too. and i just think that’s neat 😭

Helloooo, I'm back again with yet another fic. That's the end of my backlog for now, I could post rather fast because I had them all done and was working on editing these past weeks.
I'm well, currenly doing a sort of secret lil project related to louis and philippe, but I can't seem to find any side portrait showing philippe side profile... I wondered if you would have any picture, or reference that could come close to it?
Hiii yes I'm alright I just don't wanna work LOL Glad to know you're doing good yourself!!
and first of all: very excited for the project, secondly: why yes of course!!
Here's what I could gather so far:
Unfortunately I haven't been able to snatch a full profile view of any of his sculpted statues (I'll get there MYSELF it's fine 😤😤😤) but this one pic, while ofc being a 3/4, can also give a nice idea.
Can you mayhaps draw Claude Louis Hector de Villars? He was another Gay icon at Versailles (his memoirs state that he liked “handsome young men”) and celebrated General who led battles during the war of the Spanish succession, and there were even some rumors about him having feelings for Louis XIV himself… (art of those two would be even juicier OHOHOHO) but anyways! I would js love to see him in your style <33
(And here he is as reference!)
Oooh, thanks for the reference and request!!
I'll have to see when I can do that because ngl my obsession is what tends to guide me/motivate me and if it has little to do with Philippe or his close surroundings I'm generally not as motivated but who knows!!

A very short comic about Anne-Marie-Louise d'Orléans, based on some of her anecdotes in her memoirs regarding marriage and romance...
next pages below the cut, and of course, the French version!
Now with a part 2!
Of course, all of this is paraphrased and slightly exaggerated for comical effect. I don't have precise quotes and citations as I summarized everything into a lil comedy skit; that being said, I really recommend her memoirs, it's hilarious!
Since it's pride month (and that june 6 is bottom day jkjkjkjk) i'm posting some of my more softcore pinup stuff (typically anatomy/pose studies) before i finally start posting all the really nasty stuff on ao3 LOL
also i fucking love body hair augh
On August 2nd* 1687, Saint-Laurent is talking with his pupil when he suddenly feels sick. Apologizing to the prince, he asks him to make sure no one disturbs him and goes to his bedroom to try and get some rest. When he doesn’t come back, Philippe gets worried and asks a valet to check on the old preceptor and make sure he’s ok…
Saint-Laurent is in agony, he dies a few hours later. Expecting his son to be devastated, Philippe d’Orléans doesn’t tell him what happened right away… and when he does, Chartres’ reaction is very strong. The author Racine actually described it:
“When Monsieur, finally, told him, he wailed and let out terrible cries, throwing himself not on his own bed, but on M. de Saint-Laurent’s that was still in his room, calling for him loudly, as if he were still alive.”
studied a bunch of my favorite phil portraits to get his features down, even tho they vary from portrait to portrait.
I'm finally catching onto the fact that he's got sliiightly downturned eyes which i hadn't noticed before; that explains the soft gaze i like so much in all these portraits most likely!
