Recently, the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions Movement has called for a boycott of all Marvel products for their complicity in glorifying settler colonial violence and racism towards Palestinians. The BDS has specifically called for a boycott of the 2024 film Captain America: New World Order, which features the superhero Sabra, AKA Ruth Bat-Seraph. This character personifies the apartheid state of Israel and is an active form of Zionist propaganda. Palestinian film and arts organizations have called for a widespread boycott until Marvel drops this racist character.
While Circle Q Zine is an unofficial project and we are not profiting off of nor encouraging the purchase of Marvel comics or other products, we still feel that we would be supporting a boycotted company if we moved forward with this project. As such, we feel it necessary to put Circle Q on indefinite hiatus until these concerns are addressed and the boycott is lifted.
Our mod team stands in unequivocal solidarity with Palestine, and in the deepest possible terms condemn Israel’s aggression against Palestinians and occupation of Palestinian land. We ask all Marvel and Ms. Marvel fans to join us in boycotting all Marvel products.
