I feel like every time I prep an update, the world seems to be going through a new and extreme crisis. Everything has felt extremely thick and heavy lately, and I just want to acknowledge the feeling and the moment before I dive into a sea of updates and self-promotion pretending like everything is fine. It’s not. Folks are hurting, and with a new war adding to the chaos and uncertainty of things, all I can say is take some time to appreciate the people around you because tomorrow is not promised. Today, I’m listening to “Keep Your Head To The Sky” by Earth, Wind, and Fire to help soothe my nervous system. May it bring you some relief as you read this email and continue on with your day. ❤️

I’ve been finding my joy where I can get it, and I encourage you to do the same if time, space, and energy allow.  Last week, I served as co-grand marshal of the 39th annual Art Car Parade. What a trip! It was a rainy day, but an experience I wont forget. Big news first. I just won a GRAMMY alongside a bunch of music superheroes. I had the honor of contributing to "A Tribute To The King Of Zydeco", an all-star tribute to Clifton Chenier. Read more about the win hare, and if you’d like to purchase the album, you can do so here. Do I get a physical trophy? No. That award goes to the album producer and engineer. Does it change my contribution or title? Hell no, baby! Thank you for listening, coming to shows, sharing songs, and for allowing me keep doing this. You are part of this whether you realize it or not. Special thanks to Omar Lisandro and the incredible team at Magpies and Peacocks for designing the custom outfit of my dreams. My custom blue leather corset was made from retired Southwest Airlines seat leather. My mom and aunts worked for that company for many years, and their benefits allowed me a chance to perform in cities I would have never been able to reach on my own due to the cost. My Grammy date was AJ Haynes, my Louisiana sister and lead singer of Seratones. She also sang on “Why Did You Go Last Night” with me and Roddy Romero. 

To celebrate the win, I’m throwing TWO parties this Friday and Saturday with a bunch of friends. I’m hosting a two night edition of my “Kam Franklin and Friends” experience at Dan Electro’s this Friday, February 13th and Saturday, Valentine’s Day evening, at The Secret Group. I asked 9 of my favorite local Houston artists to come and do a collaborative set with me. We’re gonna play songs you know, songs you need to know, and we’re throwing in a few surprises. Feel free to come as you are, and sing and dance along with us! Having a good time is the point!

A Solo Album update Lastly, my solo record keeps growing into its own world, and it’s a beautiful thing. My Kickstarter success has allowed me to build a team of album consultants that are helping my craft a release beyond my wildest dreams on my own. We are still finishing details now and I’ll be announcing a lot of news (and new music!) in the weeks to come.

What a year! Before I get started with this post, I just want to say thank you for being a part of my community. Because of you and all of my supporters on Kickstarter, I was able to send my debut solo album into final production. More on that in the new year. 😌 Do you have New Year’s Eve plans? If not, I hope you’ll make a plan to join me and my trio at Hotel Lucine in Galveston, TX. I’ll be joined by Sara Van Buskirk and Kenny Hopkins of Yay Hi. I’m especially excited for this show because we’ll be playing songs from my upcoming album, some solo work from Kenny and Sara, and a few covers to keep things fun and light as we welcome in 2026 next to the ocean.

This year was filled with some really incredible moments. I got to tour all over the country with the Antone’s 50th All-Stars. That season wrapped with a debut performance on Austin City Limits. I performed at Willie Nelson’s Luck Reunion and the SXSW Grammy party backing up Jessica Simpson. Check her recap here. The next day, I opened for Waxahatchee at the ranch with my full band. I wrapped recording on The Suffers’ fourth studio album, and I helped my friend Sara Van Buskirk on album production for her sophomore album. Check out the music video for her latest single, “Comfortable Lie”, here.  Last week, I made my first trip out to Virginia Beach and Norlfolk, VA to collaborate and perform with my dear friend, Roberta Lea. We released a holiday version of our country single, “Too Much Of Me”, and ended up performing it to a packed house at the Cavalier Hotel in Virginia Beach and on early morning television the next day on WTRK for Music Fridays. This past Sunday, I performed at the 21st Annual Trills The Season Toy Drive and Concert. I did a rare solo dolo set, and you can view my performance of “Talk To You” from that night here.

Before I close, I’d love to share a clip from a recent performance of my unreleased song, “Happy Holidays”. It was co-written with my friend and The Suffers bandmate, Ed “Blacknintendo” Prevost. There’s a lot happening in the world right now, and I hope this moment of music reminds you to take care of yourself and of others. Thank you for supporting me, and reading this email.
