On the morning of September 4, 1957, fifteen-year-old Dorothy Counts set out on a harrowing path toward Harding High, where-as the first African American to attend the all-white school – she was greeted by a jeering swarm of boys who spat, threw trash, and yelled epithets at her as she entered the building.
Charlotte Observer photographer Don Sturkey captured the ugly incident on film, and in the days that followed, the searing image appeared not just in the local paper but in newspapers around the world.
People everywhere were transfixed by the girl in the photograph who stood tall, her five-foot-ten-inch frame towering nobly above the mob that trailed her. There, in black and white, was evidence of the brutality of racism, a sinister force that had led children to torment another child while adults stood by. While the images display a lot of evils: prejudice, ignorance, racism, sexism, inequality, it also captures true strength, determination, courage and inspiration.
Here she is, age 70, still absolutely elegant and poised.
she deserves to be re-blogged.
Ya’ll been giving life with these PowerPoints lately!

“I think it’s healthy for a person to be nervous. It means you care - that you work hard and want to give a great performance. You just have to channel that nervous energy into the show.” - B
A dance lesson from James Brown, 1978. (x)
“See back in the day.. our dances were fun and creative”
Lets not front like the dances today aren’t variation of these moves…or even further from traditional dances in African countries. The whole right row could be judge as the basic dance steps for what dances were hot for the last couple of years.

“Brown eyed people are responsible for the fact that you have electricity. Many of the components for generating and transmitting electricity were invented by brown eyed people.
Brown eyed people gave us our alphabet. Brown eyed people gave us our numeration system. Brown eyed people gave us the paper on which we write these anonymous letters to me that tell me that brown eyed people are inferior.
Brown eyed people are the originators, the ones who founded every major religion on Earth. No white people have ever founded a major religion.
Now you need to realize the contributions that have been made to society, to civilization by brown eyed people, by PEOPLE OF COLOR.
I’m talking about people of color here folks. And most of us are not aware of those things because we live in a racist society.
And because we are educated by a racist school system that only teaches us about white contributions.”
- Jane Elliot on the Oprah Winfrey Show panel on racism in 1992.
she’s the only white person i can see making it to heaven

Michigan City Tells Residents To Pay Up Or They’ll Shut Off Water — Again
Months after a county judge ordered Flint, Michigan to cease shutting off water pipes and revise customers’ bills, the city is once again sending out letters warning customers to pay or go dry. The city sent out more than 1,800 shutoff notices since last week, representing about 60 percent of all customers billed in September. While city ordinances call for a 10-day grace period between a shutoff warning and the city actually closing a pipe, Flint is giving residents until December 1 to make payments.
Wtf is wrong with Michigan
