Not a secret family. You're just oblivious. Part 10
Part 1 <previous next>
Tim wasn’t sure if he was worried or annoyed. He knew he would need to debrief on any important updates that happened while he was on vacation, but for the call for a meeting to come in as soon as he was marked as available down to the minute. Either something major happened, so major it was being kept from his emergency alerts, or Bruce wanted to lecture him about “being lazy” and “abandoning his post". Either way it wasn’t going to be fun.
As he pulled in he could see that everyone was in the cave, even Babs, and was that Black Canary? Okay, so it was either a league level threat or some new strain of fear toxin that required a therapist. He was not looking forward to whatever this was.
Black Canary opened her mouth, presumably to explain her presence before being cut off by Dick, bordering on tears. “How could you have kept this all from us Tim?” and Tim felt his eyebrows raise. What is happening?
“Keep what?” Tim had several secrets that they could have found out but none that should elicit such a strong reaction.
“Your family!” and oh. That makes sense they had found out that Danny and the twins were metas, or at least what they would understand to be metas. One of the twins must have slipped up in public. That’s fine this is a conversation he was actually prepared for.
“Look, it’s nothing personal. I know you guys like to know what’s going on, but it’s not like they’re a threat or trying to be a part of all of this. Danny and I both agreed we want the twins away from all of this.” Tim gestured around the cave.
“You can’t just decide that.” Bruce was wearing his I know best and you will listen to me glare. That made Tim angry. How dare he think he gets a say in how Tim raised his kids. How dare he think that just because the twins are metas or are associated with Tim that they had to be heroes. Absolutely not.
“I’m sorry, what did you just say to me? Because I think you just said that I am not allowed final say on decisions about my children and their safety.” He glared around the room.
-
“How could you have kept all of this from us Tim?” Dick knew he was supposed to let Dinah lead the discussion but he couldn’t help himself. He needed to know. The why was all he cared about. Why had his little brother hid this?
“Keep what?” Tim reasoned looking concerned and confused.
“Your family!” Dick regretted the way he yelled it almost as soon as it left his mouth. This was escalating and it was his fault. Tim’s face seemed to drop into a sad resignation.
“Look, it’s nothing personal. I know you guys like to know what’s going on, but it’s not like they’re a threat or trying to be a part of all of this. Danny and I both agreed we want the twins away from all of this.” Tim explained as he gestured to the family. And oh. We’re they tat bad that Tim had decided they weren’t fit to be around his children.
“You can’t just decide that.” Bruce interjected with his something is wrong please talk to me glare. He was hurt. Dick agreed Tim couldn’t just decide to separate from their family without so much as a conversation or even a note.
“I’m sorry, what did you just say to me? Because I think you just said that I am not allowed final say on decisions about my children and their safety.” Tim’s voice was dark as he glared around the room. And their safety? Did Tim see them as a threat. Was it because of Jason and Damian. Was it because of how he reacted when Bruce was in the time stream?
“That is enough!” Dinah interrupted physically moving to be between Tim and the rest of the family. She sighed as the room quieted. “I can understand why Cass said you would need a mediator for this.” She glared at Bruce and Dick. “We are going to have a mature conversation without all of the yelling and accusations. This is a conversation, not an ambush.”
-
Danny was in the middle of his least favorite chore, washing the dishes, when he felt his phone buzz in his pocket. He glanced at it to see a text from Tim.
Polaris: Get the go bags ready for you and the kids. The bats found out you’re metas and are being weird about it. I don’t trust it.
Starlight: I can take them through the realms to Jazz or leave them with Frostbite if you think you’ll need extraction.
Polaris: If you don’t hear from me in two hours, reach out. Maybe covertly come to the cave and check on me after you drop off the twins if you still don’t hear from me.
Well, there went any chance of a relaxing, peaceful night. Danny focused on keeping his emotions quiet. The last thing they needed was for his distress to wake up the twins.
-
After everyone had a chance to calm down a bit, they sat down, and Dinah started. “Alright, let’s start off with establishing why we are having this conversation. Cass called me in because she didn’t think there would be productive conversations without an outside perspective, and clearly, she was right. Essentially, this is a family group therapy session.”
“Then why am I here? And why bring my family into this?” Was Tim’s immediate response.
“What do you mean replacement?” Jason asked.
“I mean, I get that I’m part of the “Bats and Birds, " but I’m not like actually a family member.” Tim looked genuinely confused. Them the room erupted.

Not a secret family, you're just oblivious. Part 9
Part 1 <previous next>
Tim looked over at the twins to make sure they were settled with their lunch before focusing on cleaning up the campsite with his husband. He had to admit, he really needed this break. Honestly he needed to make time for more breaks like this. Don’t get him wrong, he loved being Red Robin. He just wished he had more time to take these weekends with his family. To give his children the experiences he never got. To keep his relationship with Danny fed and healthy.
As much as he complained about the Waynes constantly pulling him into their family drama when all he wanted to do was patrol it did help him learn what exactly he wanted to avoid as a parent. He never wanted to have the type of fighting and tension with his babies that Bruce did. He felt like he had already avoided part of that by having the stability and support he did from Danny, and all of the family he inherited in their relationship.
After becoming a parent himself Tim found that he understood Bruce better in some ways and much much less in others. As talented as Alfred is a support net work of one is shaky. Especially if that one person insisted on a professional emotional distance. But he could not comprehend the way the man pushed his children away. The way he didn’t talk to them about the important things.
He was broken out of his thoughts by his husband calling him over. “I’m going to take this first load of stuff down and see if I can move the car closer to the trail head.” Danny leaned down to kiss his cheek. Tim smiled and went back to packing.
-
Danny looked over at his husband and smiled. Tim had followed the twins in drifting off to sleep. He was glad he made the right call in pushing for this trip. Sure he had to cancel and rearrange a few projects at the shop and reach out his ghost friends, mostly Skulker, to inform them that if the trip was interrupted he wouldn’t be the one getting skinned, but it was worth it.
Ellie was so pleased with herself for winning the scavenger hunt and getting to choose their dinner. Dan was a bit grumpy but the ice cream definitely helped. Tim laughed so much. His real laugh that he only uses when he’s alone with their family. Danny loves that laugh. He hates that Tim hides it. He never had the dubious honor of meeting Tim’s parents but he is also glad that he didn’t. He doesn’t know if he would have been able to hold his tongue about their poor treatment of his husband. He sighed as he focused back on the road. It was a good thing he didn’t mind driving in silence.
-
Tim had been going through and editing the pictures from their weekend. He definitely wanted to get some of them printed, he had some new frames the needed filled, and the picture he kept on his desk at WE need updated. He smiled at the computer at the picture of Danny and Dan posing in front of a cluster of branches that looked like wings. It made his husband look even more like an angel. Ethereal was always his favorite way to describe his husband’s looks, especially when talking about his ghost form. He heard the door to his home office open and saw Ellie come in with her own camera.
“Papa said you were fixing the pictures you took so you can print them out. Um can we do mine too? I want my pictures in my room.” She asked. Tim smiled as he stood to grab the chair he kept in his office for when his children wanted to sit with him while he worked. Ellie came rushing over as he set it up next to his own chair.
“Of course sweetheart! We have to display your art too!”
-
The mood in the cave was almost acidic to Cass as she joined the rest of her family. Tim had returned to Gotham in the late afternoon the day before and would be coming to the cave to check on any cases he needed to before patrol. She looked back at her companion and decided she should explain her presence.
“I called Dinah. We aren’t good at feelings and we need a moderator for when we talk to Tim.”
There was a general level of reluctant agreement before everyone settled back into tense silence. The silence remained unbroken until there was the sound of a motorcycle pulling into the cave.
Possible trigger warning for mention of death in child birth. It's literally one sentence, and it didn't actually happen. It is the explanation for the twins' nonexistent mother.
“Okay, let me make sure I understand the situation.” Barbra looked around the cave at all of the bats save Damian and Cass. They had even woken Duke up early for this. “None of you knew Tim was in a relationship, let alone married? None of you?” She was frankly impressed with the unmitigated disaster playing out in front of her.
“No we didn’t.” Bruce responded “Why did you? Did he know you would find out regardless and tell you to get ahead of that? Make it seem like we all knew.”
“Okay I should establish something real quick because you are all very lost. Tim was in no way, shape, or form hiding his marriage.” Barbra started then had to speak louder to be heard over the sudden outcry. “Shut up I’ll prove it.” She went over to the computer.
She called Barry Allen. “Hi Barry, it’s Barbra. I need to ask you something to prove a point.”
“Okay? Shoot.” The speedster responded with clear confusion.
“Has Red Robin at any point asked you for relationship advice and if so what for?”
“I’m sorry what?”
“Just answer the question.” Bruce demanded brows furrowed.
“Yeah, about a month into dating Danny. He asked about balancing a relationship with a civilian and how to deal with twin babies as a hero.” He explained. “What’s going on?”
“Nothing important. I’ll tell you later." Barbra said hanging up on him. Barbra called a few other heroes and Lucius fox to prove her point of Tim having been fairly open about his relationship.
“Okay so we’ve established that this was never being kept secret so now let’s figure out how you all missed it.” She looked around the room.
“All of you read Tim’s report on the time stream investigation right?” She asked as she pulled it up. Upon getting agreement from the rest she continued. “Tim met Danny while he was in Chicago meeting Constantine’s contact that got us the information on when Bruce would emerge. Due to the contact, that we only know as Phantom needing access to someone with a close relationship with Bruce Tim stayed in Chicago for two months before giving us the information through Constantine.” She pulled up an alternate identity profile for Alvin Thompson. “Because of how long he was set to stay in Chicago he lived under one of his aliases. Tim didn’t include it in the main report but if you look at the other notable information he talked about what he was doing while in Chicago. While living there he made friends with another teen, Danny. They got pretty close. Danny’s ex girlfriend Melissa was expecting twins and she was going to sign her parental rights away leaving them in Danny and his older sister’s custody.” She pulled up a selfie of Tim and Danny in a skate park. “Tim decided to stay in Chicago even after Phantom got the information about Bruce. He and Danny started dating a month before the twins were born. Melissa had an unknown allergy to a medication used during the birth and passed away. The twins had some health complications that required blood transfusions. Those came from Tim. After the twins were stable enough Danny and sister moved here to Gotham and Tim returned.” She had been pulling up section after section in Tim’s report that explained this situation. That all of them had some how missed.
“Okay to be fair the other information section typically only has things like how many batarangs were used. Not an entire romance novel.” Jason joked.
As Bruce was about to respond to that they were interrupted by a call from Damian and Cass.
Bruce immediately answered with a grunted “Report.”
“Hello Father. We have been observing Timothy and his family and they have over all seemed to be a completely average family. Both Timothy and his husband are attentive to the twins as well as each other. All four seem to be openly affectionate with each other. However we have just observed that both Nightingale and the male twin have the ability to fly.” Damian explained.
“Well yes Danny is literally a known meta. So are both of the twins.” Barbra looked around again disappointed and tired.
“I see.” Bruce said seeming somewhat lost. “Cass what were your observations?”
“They are all happy. I have more but want to wait.” She explained in a short manner.
“Okay I think we have enough. Cass Damian come home tonight after they go to sleep. We will reach out to Tim to talk about this when he gets back to town tomorrow.”
-
Cass waited for Damian to be asleep as she flew the plane to call Dinah. She needed to ask some questions before she talked to her family.
Have a spirit halloween ship plot idea because my sisters made me read a hades & persephone retelling, and I just got back into hadestown after hearing about it coming to theaters.
Bruce was stuck in the past. He had been gradually getting his memories back, but the only thing they changed was his desperation to get back to his time. Back to his kids. He had tried to leave clues to help his team and family find him, but he had no way of knowing if they were being found.
Every time he shifted to a new time, he saw a blinding abyss of green for a moment. When he felt the shift come again, he expected the same. Instead, he found himself in a room full of gears and mirrors. Standing facing a mirror was a man. Bruce couldn't see his face.
"Bruce Wayne, Batman, The Dark Knight. You've been altering time." Bruce could feel in his bones that this being was more than he had ever met before. As the being turned to face him, he felt himself freeze in place. "That illegal. Especially if you don't have an ancient backing you like those Flashes of yours do."
Bruce couldn't open his mouth. He couldn’t move under that gaze. "But I do know you didn’t end up in the time stream voluntarily, so I am willing to be lenient. Maybe even help you, for a price."
"What would you need?" was what he finally forced out.
"Let me explain your first option first, Prince of Gotham." Bruce caught the use of another title. One spoken like it held weight. "If I don't interfere your current plan will work. You will make it home, but there will be a cost. Come look." The still unnamed being gestured him over to the mirror.
He saw his children. Fighting. Over the cowl. Over his death. He saw his family splinter. Tim on his own. Working with Ra's. Ra's orchestrating his son's death. Then blurred images. Some of Tim getting away and beating Ra's. Of him returning home to his family. Far more of his son dead. Alone. His brothers finding out and the fighting become more fearce. More deaths. Returning to nothing.
Bruce tore his eyes from the mirror with a cutoff sob at yet another son's corpse. He turned to the being in the room with him. "I cannot garentee how the time line will go. Only that you will return home."
"Or?" He forced himself to ask.
"You help me with a situation. There are concerns for the future stability of the realms. This place we are in. The place between places. Time between times. The place where all journies end and all souls rest." The being began. "As the Ancient of Time those concerns are my responsibility. The current King fully inherited his title fourteen years ago, though he earned it seven years before that. The denizens of infinity are concerned of him making the same mistakes as his predecessor and loosing his balance." The being, the Ancient of Time, paused.
Bruce narrowed his eyes. "Where do I come in."
"You would garentee his balance. Be his balance." The Ancient stated.
"What, like an advisor?" Bruce felt uneasy.
"In part. But there is more." He handed Bruce a scroll. Bruce unfurled it and felt as if the floor dropped from under him.
Betrothal and Marriage Contract for His Royal Magesty High King Phantom and His Highness Sir Bruce Wayne of Gotham.
Basically Bruce is Persephone splitting his time between the zone and his world to save his family. Danny is aware of the potential betrothal and trusts Clockwork to make the best decision for the future of the realm. I'm picturing Danny at about 35 and Bruce at 45ish. Gotham is a place in the realms and the Bats were adopted by the city spirit so he is an actual prince in the realms.

Barbra was happy to be home. She had a great time with her dad and was proud of him for taking the time off, but she missed home. She went to check her case files after she had settled in to find one flagged by Bruce as a family emergency. She opened the file and immediately called Bruce upon seeing the name at the top and lack of information.
“Bruce what happened with Danny? Are the kids okay? Where’s Tim?” She asked as she readied to go to the cave. With something serious enough to warrant a family emergency, they should all be centralized. Especially to be there for Tim if anything had happened to Danny.
Her thoughts and actions were interrupted by Bruce’s incredulous “You knew about Danny?” She paused and looked at the file again. A personnel file with only the barest of information. Nothing more than what Tim put in when they got engaged.
“Seriously Bruce. I know you didn’t approve of their relationship when they were first dating, but come on they’ve been together for half a decade. I mean–“
“Barbara what do you mean I didn’t approve of their relationship. Tim never told me about it.” Bruce asked his tone hard.
“When I asked Tim why you weren’t involved with the twins after they first move to Gotham. He said ‘Why would he be? He doesn’t even approve of my relationship to begin with.’” She explained. They definitely needed to be discussing this in person. “He seemed upset about it, and his relationships with pretty much everyone were rocky at the time, so I left it. It was only a year after the whole time stream incident.”
Bruce was silent for too long. Barbra could practically see him thinking through everything. “I think you should come to the manor. We all need to talk.”
-
Danny handed each kid their scavenger hunt list. It was a tradition he’d had with his parents. Simple things to find while they hike, a yellow flower, a mushroom, a tree stump. He and Tim had sticker sheets to put on the list as the kids found the items. The winner got to choose where they stopped to eat on the way home.
He remembered the first time he finished the list before Jazz. His Dad made such a big deal of it. Got him an extra cookie at the restaurant. It hurt to think about those memories now that his parents were out of his life. But they were still the best parts of his childhood, and he wanted them for his kids.
He grabbed Tim’s hand and told the kids to walk in front of them and reminded them of the rules. They ran back and forth to the edges of the trail to try and complete the list first, calling for one of their parents every time they found something. There were a few pauses along the way, an argument over who saw the patch of purple flowers first, a nature spirit becoming incredibly giggly when Ellie called the leaf from her tree “very pretty,” and more.
Eventually, they got to the playground, and it was empty. They gave the kids the sandwiches they had for lunch before they set off to play on the equipment and went to sit together on the bench. Tim leaned against his husband and felt in his barely their core the hum of contentment-love-family. They sat and watched the twins play, having to get onto them a couple of time for using their powers. Reminding them that even if no one else was at the park, they were still in public.
Overall it was a good day, even if the kids had worn themselves out enough that they needed to be carried back to camp.
-
Cass and her littlest brother were following their brother’s Tim's family on another hike. From what Cass pulled up about this trail, it led to a park. The kids seemed even more excited about this hike than the one the day before. They each had some sort of checklist.
She could clearly see how much they all love each other. Naturally and freely. There was no caution in the love like there often was with her family. She honestly didn’t know Tim could be like this. That hurt. It was a new hurt she didn’t have the words for.
The small family made it to the playground with little incident. The kids played and the parents settled on a bench to watch. She saw a peace she had never seen Tim have before this trip, as he leaned against his husband. Cass hadn’t given to much consideration to marriage, romance sure some but not marriage. Maybe if this is what it could be like she’d give it more thought.
She was drawn from her thoughts by Damian’s soft gasp and Danny jogging over to get onto his child. His floating child. Damian looked over at her. “I think we may need to call father.”

Not a secret family, you're just oblivious. Part 6
Part 1 <previous next>
Danny quietly chuckled when he woke to find Ellie having phased herself into his sleeping bag. Sound asleep. It still astonished him how small she was. He remembers the girl she used to be. Untethered and free and so unapologetically Ellie. He could see glimpses of the girl she was, of his little sister. He saw less of who Dan was. Most of his chosen twin’s life was shaped by his pain and loss. Pain and loss he would never see in this life.
Tim and him had asked the questions so many times of how similar the twins would be to who they were. It didn’t really matter, they were his babies no matter what. It was still a thought that got stuck in his head, along with the guilt for grieving the people right in front of him.
Danny carefully pulled himself out of the sleeping bag without waking Ellie. He was awake so he might as well get started setting up for breakfast. As he left the tent he saw Dan in Tim’s sleeping bag. He so dreaded the day the twins were to old for this.
-
Damian and Cassandra had slept in shifts. Cassandra woke him up and informed him that there were no developments. She went to sleep and Damian was alone with his thoughts.
He wasn’t an idiot, he expected it to be painful watching his brother with this hidden family. These people he felt he needed to protect, even from them. He was right it did hurt, but he had expected anger and betrayal not jealousy. He was fifteen years old, he shouldn’t be jealous of his nephew and niece. But still.
He remembered being their age. He never went camping but he did do survival training. He never got to indulge his art but he did learn the careful strokes it took to forge someone’s handwriting. He never got to ask his mom endless questions about plants but she taught him which ones could be used as poison. He never experienced that soft gentle indulgence that his niece and nephew were given freely. Not even when he came to Gotham. Not from his father nor his siblings.
Would Timothy have treated him gently like that if he hadn’t pushed him away? Would he ever be trusted to treat his brother’s children that way, even after everything he’s done? Would he be able to treat the kids he would have one day that way? Would he know how if he never experienced it?
Damian’s thoughts were interrupted by movement. It appeared that Nightingale was awake.
-
Jason got on his newly fixed bike. He thought about the conversation with Richie yesterday. The man had nothing but the most glowing reviews for Danny. The kids from the alley that go to school with the twins and their parents are the same. By all accounts they seem like a normal happy family, if not a little young.
Evelyn, the woman that runs the soup kitchen, told him that Danny volunteers every Thursday when he’s off and the kids are at school. All of the people at the kitchen love him. Honestly with how everyone talks about him he’s not sure if it’s a Midwest thing or if he is somehow secretly related to the Kent’s.
Jason pulled in at his apartment and went inside. It was time to type up his report.
-
The first thing Danny did after he got the fire started was to set up the percolator. As much work as he had done to cut back on his husband’s coffee consumption Tim still needed at least two cups in the morning. Danny started on breakfast knowing Dan would wakeup soon with the smell. Dan getting out of the sleeping bag would wake up Tim and all of the movement would wake up Ellie.
Sure enough the trio soon emerged from the tent. Sleepy with wild hair. Danny smiled he loved how much he could see Tim in the twins. He knew Tim loved it too. Not that he would have loved them any less if he wasn’t one of their biological parents but that connection meant something to him.
Tim woke to a knee in the stomach and the smell of coffee. He thanked the ancients that his husband knew him so well as he got out of the sleeping bag with Dan. He looked over and saw Ellie stirring in her Papa’s sleeping bag. It never failed to astonish him how they could perfectly use their power to get in bed but getting out always led to kicks and shoves. He greeted the kids and stepped into the morning air.
Man he loved that view. He reach back in the tent for his camera and took pictures of the early morning light filtering through the trees. He then took a picture of his husband cooking now with Ellie on this hip and Dan on his back. Danny gestured him over with his head. “Drink a glass of water before you get your coffee. Its not quite ready yet anyway.”
"Yes dear" Tim laughed as he grabbed Dan off of his husband’s back and his water. He went over to his seat and settled Dan on his lap. He was quickly getting more energy and should probably be kept from the hot cooking instruments Danny was using.
Soon food was brought over and the twins were settled into their own chairs. Today they were going to a park that was a ways down one of the hiking trails. It was also time to give the twins their scavenger hunt list for this trip. Tim was never quite sure whether they got their competitive nature from him or Danny but it didn’t matter. They love to have friendly competitions going all the time. It was also a good way to encourage control training for their powers.
Not a secret family, you're just oblivious. Part 5
Part 1 <previous next>
PART 5
“Jason where are you going?” He heard Dick chasing after him. “We need to figure out–"
“No one’s told Alfred yet.” Jason looked back to his oldest brother. He looked physically pained at the thought of telling the man that was their, Tim's, grandfather. “He stayed in the manor to make dinner because we were all here. Told Bruce that he could be filled in later.”
Jason had to look away from Dick’s face. From the pain that Tim was bringing into their home. He could understand if it was just him that it had been kept from. He knows he messed up his chance to really be close with Tim. The best he can ever hope for is the quick dinners together after patrols. But Dick, Bruce, Alfred and the rest. They were Tim’s family, and Tim was so smart he had to know how this would hurt all of them.
“Knowing Alfred he probably knew it would be an emotional conversation and didn’t want to react in front of everyone. He hates when we see him cry.” Dick stared down at his feet as he said it. Jason didn’t know if the rest of their siblings knew he did this to hide his own emotions, they always showed so clearly in his eyes.
“That’s why I’m going alone. He’s more likely to let himself feel and react the smaller his audience is.” Jason could see Dick nod to himself. “Tell the others I can’t leave Gotham right now because of some cases but I can cover patrol routes.”
-
“Alfie?” Alfred looked up sharply from where he was sitting in the corner of the kitchen. He knew why he was here, he’d been listening in to the conversation in the cave through the bugs he had down there. He knows that he’s always kept himself distant from the family to an extent but for one of his grandchildren to keep this from him, from all of them. He couldn’t understand.
“I already heard. I just need a moment to think before I get back to dinner. I’ll be fine Master Jason.”
“Where were you at. I’ll takeover for now.”
-
Bruce looked up as his eldest came back down the stairs. “Jay went to talk with Alfred. He’ll stay in Gotham and cover patrol routes. We could probably also get him to ask about Daniel at Richie’s while we know he’s going to be out of town.”
He hummed that could work. For sure Cass would follow Tim. She was the most stealthy and could get a good read on how sincere Daniel was toward Tim. One of Bruce’s worse fears in their civilian lives was people using his kids to get his money. He doubted that was what this was after five years but you can’t be to cautious.
“Father, I think I should go with Cassandra.” Damian spoke up. “I think I have the most training, and ability to remain objective in this situation." That would work. He and Barbra, once she was back, would focus on researching, Jason, Dick and Steph would split patrol routes, Duke would stay on dayshift, and Cass and Damian would follow Tim and his…family.
Tim’s family. His husband. His children.
-
Dick read the information they already had. It looked like Tim had met Daniel while Bruce was in the time stream, but after he had shared the evidence and pinpointed where he would emerge. That time where he had solved the problem and been able to return home while everyone waited for Bruce’s return but didn’t. Everyone had assumed it was because of the fight he had with Dick, but maybe not.
Was that why he hadn’t told them. Because of that fight? Was it his fault Tim had hidden this from everybody?
-
Duke was unsure what to do. He had never been that close to Tim, but it seems like he had joined the family after Tim had his secret family already so maybe that was why. Either way Duke was lost. He didn’t know how to help Bruce or his siblings with this.
-
Cass looked over at Damian as they traveled. They were silent but his body language practically screamed ‘sad, conflicted, confused’. He could feel her eyes on him. “I am fine Cassandra.”
“Lie. Talk to me, little brother.” She demanded.
“I thought our relationship was improving. I know I caused the rift between us originally but we had been getting better. I can not help but think, ‘What if it was to keep his family safe from me.’” Damian explained.
Cass could understand, but she didn’t have the words that would give her little brother the comfort he needed right now.
-
Jason brought his bike into the shop and Richie came over. “Hey Jay. Let me get a look at it.” He inspected the dent on the side. “this looks like someone took a bat to it.”
“Yeah, probably stupid kids. Some of the cars in the parking garage had broken windows.” He looked around the shop as if just noticing. “Danny not in?”
“No he’s on a trip with his family. From what it sounded like his husband had a bad week. They weren’t planning on this trip for another month or so.” Richie explained. “Normally I wouldn’t be fine with someone just taking off last minute for vacation but I kinda owe him for being the other guy on call for the ‘I have no clue’ problems.’”
“How is his husband. I think he only talked about him and the kids for half an hour last time. Marital problems?” Jason asked jokingly.
-
Cass and Damian watched as the couple returned to their tent. The bugs they had planted while the family were on their hike having done their job. They had many answers to their questions and many new questions to go with them, but there was one major one bothering Cass. If this is Tim’s body language with his family, why isn’t it like this with them.
Not a secret family, you're just oblivious. Part 4
Part 1 <previous next>
Danny felt eyes on him as he parked in the campgrounds parking lot, just outside of the forest. He almost laughed at the amount of curious-new-strong he felt. Spirits in isolated places like forests were always interested in the halfa.
Typically they had heard rumors of his existence but had no details. Pariah’s awakening had scared everyone. He wasn’t concerned about a fight breaking out, the rumors had scared pretty much everyone that didn’t actively reside in the realms from fight him. Beyond that he had ghostlings with him and very few would brake the taboo of causing threat to them.
He glanced at his family and saw the kids coming to the same conclusions as him, but Tim looked a bit uneasy. Danny reach over for his hand, squeezing it to signaled it was okay. Tim had gradually become more liminal and thus sensitive to the energies around him as he spent more time around the three halfas, but he still had a hard time reading intent.
Tim relaxed and looked down at the kids. “Alright, who’s ready for our camping trip?” The kids shouted their agreement. “Okay what are the rules?”
“Always stay where you and Papa can see us. Never go off trail unless we are holding you or Papa’s hand. Never touch or eat any plants unless you say it’s okay. And always keep our whistles incase we get separated.” Dan said.
“Oh and no petting or feeding any animals and don’t leave any trash.” Ellie added.
“Good let me get your sunscreen and bug spray on you while your Papa unloads our stuff.” Tim knelt in front of the twins.
After a minute Danny was calling them to the back of the car and passing out backpacks. His and Tim’s had typical supplies and the twins each had their own water and a few snacks in theirs. They walked up to their campsite with the tent and sleeping bags for Danny to set up with the kids while Tim went back for their cooler.
-
After they had finished setting up they went on a shorter hike to a scenic outlook near their campsite. Tim had his camera and was taking pictures as they went. Ellie had her own camera. Anytime Tim paused she rushed over to his side to see what he was taking a picture of and decided if she wanted one too. She would also call Tim over if she saw something to take a picture of, though typically Tim would just take pictures of her excitedly trying to get just the right angle.
Dan kept stopping Danny and asking about plants along the trail in-between the two being commanded to pose for pictures. Danny had never thought he would be so grateful for all it the rants and info dumps from Sam until his son had developed such a love for plants. He was, to the amusement of both his fathers, rather insistent that Poison Ivy was his favorite hero and he would not accept criticism from anyone. His Aunt Sam loved to encourage it.
-
Tim sighed at the view from the outlook. He hadn’t really indulged in his love of photography much between becoming Robin and meeting Danny. Jazz was the one to push him to take it back up. Telling him and reminding Danny that engaging in healthy hobbies was good for everyone but especially necessary for liminals and ghosts. She finally convinced them by telling them that neglecting themselves could cause anomalies in their ectoplasm and effect the twins growth.
He couldn’t remember being this happy. Not as Tim. As Robin he had been when he was with his team but as Tim he never had anyone. And now he had a husband, two kids, an older sister, two honorary siblings, and several ghost calling themselves his in-laws. He felt stable and content. Like he would still matter if he stopped being Red Robin tomorrow.
-
Dan had insisted on sitting in Tim’s lap for dinner. He said that Ellie had been hogging him all day so he got him for dinner. Ellie huffed and said it was fine and she would just sit with Papa. Tim and Danny laughed at the kids antics. After smores the twins started drifting of so they were settled in their sleeping bags in the tent.
Danny moved his chair closer to his husband’s when they got back to the fire. They sat in comfortable silence for a bit before Danny asked, “Do you remember the first time we went camping?”
Tim looked over to him as he replied “Yeah, before the twins were born, when we weren’t sure they would make it. Jazz convinced me to take you to get your mind off of worrying. I remember thinking why me, why not Sam or Tuck. I guessed she saw before we did though. Why do you bring it up? Feeling nostalgic?”
“She sees everything before we do.” Danny laughed. “And, yeah honestly. It just makes me think of it every time we go camping. You know, I don’t know if I ever told you that was the first time I wanted to kiss you.”
“Really then?” Tim asked, slightly baffled thinking back to his own emotional state at the time and how close they had come to losing the twins before the trip.
“Well there was a reason I didn’t. I just think that was the moment I realized how much you meant to me.”
Tim thought. “I think for me it was when we found out I was a viable donor. To stabilized the twins. I think it was easier to admit I loved them than you to myself. I’m not sure why.”
“Well can you admit it now?” Danny asked with raising an eyebrow.
“I don’t know. Can you kiss me?” Tim shot back. Danny was quick to obliged.
They kept talking for a bit longer while the fire died out before joining the kids in the tent for the night. They slept, unaware of the living eyes lost in the sea of the dead watching them.
Bruce: Tim that's inappropriately unprofessional....and very true. Honestly its that new board member.
Tim: The representative from Vladco?
Bruce: Yeah, not only is he insanely charismatic, but he has a sharp mind. He's blocking almost all of my suggestions, and I fear he only needs a few more meetings before he starts running them
Tim: Isn't that good? To have someone competent?
Bruce: It's would be if the man wasn't so focus on tearing my authority down. He's comes at me like he has a personal vendetta. Be careful around him
Tim: *sigh* Another Lex Luther wannabe. Why do the rich people we know all suck?
Bruce: Tim you're rich
Tim: I stand by what I say.
Meanwhile at Vladco Headquarters:
Sam: Danny, what was that? You know you can't just pick a fight with Bruce Wayne especially after barely having Vlad's company transfered under your name!
Danny: What? You WANT me to play nice with Wayne? He's poisoning Gotham!
Tucker: Look man, I get your whole Super Hero Must Save the City thing activates whenever you near someone who is harming the innocent but we dont even know if Mr. Wayne is involved in shady shit.
Danny: I know we don't have physical proof but Wayne just triggers every instinct in Phantom. That man is dangerous and not just by his influence. He is drenched in darkness
Sam: So the man is a goth! You don't seem to have a problem when I'm one, why are you going after him for it?
Danny: No its not that kind of darkness. There is just something off about him and his children.
Tucker: Danny, I love you, but im pretty sure this is all in your head. Just focus on taking over Vlad's company and making it a better one. People dont know yet you're the new owner, and that means we have an advantage. We have to cease it.
Sam: Listen to our husband. He's making sense....for once.
Danny: I know! I just....something is wrong with Bruce Wayne and Phantom is all over the place making it very hard to not be-
Sam: throwing hissy fits like a territorial animal whenever Mr. Wayne speaks?
Danny: -on guard. Not be on guard around him. But now that you mentioned it....Phantom does seem to think Wayne will take his territory. He's a threat to us. Like a actually threat.
Tucker: Wayne's a ghost?
Danny: No....he's human. And Phantom is scared of him.
Sam: ....That's bone chilling.
Tucker: Okay. Maybe DO keep a eye on Wayne. There is no way Phantom could be scared of a regular human.

Not a secret family, you're just oblivious. Part 3
Part 1 <previous next>
Dick had some concerns. Being called in for an emergency family meeting was never a good thing. Being called in for an emergency family meeting and explicitly told not to inform one of his brothers about it was significantly worse.
At best it meant some family secret from Tim’s birth family had come to light and Bruce didn’t know how to handle breaking the news. At worst Tim had been brain washed or replaced by a clone. No matter what it was bad.
Dick was surprised to see that he was the last to arrive aside from Babs, he hadn’t even taken that long. Typically Jason was the last to arrive, probably purposefully. That he had actually gotten to the cave quick confirmed to Dick that he wasn’t over reacting. This was bad.
“Barbara won’t be here so I'll fill her in separately. To start I am just going to ask, does the name Daniel Nightingale mean anything to any of you?” Bruce seemed incredibly grim. The name didn’t ring a bell to Dick in anyway and he opened his mouth to voice as much.
“Do you mean the mechanic at Richie's Shop? Yeah he’s worked on my civilian bike before. Been working there since his kids started school last year.” Jason said. “What does he have to do with replacement?”
“Not what I was looking for but what do you think of him?” Bruce asked before he was interrupted by Duke.
“Better question, who is Danny and what is going on? I feel like we should be on the same page before we move on,” Dick completely agreed.
Bruce looked around at Dick and his siblings, and sibling adjacents. Before turning to the computer and pulling up Tim’s personnel profile. He scrolled down to the family section and, oh. Okay, Daniel Nightingale. Tim was married. When had that happened? He had kids. How had Dick not known?
“Oh my God. Tim is Polaris?” Jason exclaimed like it was an earth-shattering revelation. Even Bruce looked confused. Jason explained, “Danny’s husband. He doesn’t shut up about him, ever. But he always calls him Polaris. Something about his only light in his darkest time or something.”
“So this is like a real marriage not a cover or something?” Duke asked. “When did that happen?”
“Three years ago apparently. But they have evidently been together since before the twins were born.” And yeah. Twins. Tim was a parent. He had a niece and nephew. Tim had kids.
“Why did Timothy not properly inform us of this development?” Damian asked, and wow. There was a level of hurt in the question. Dick knew his relationship with Tim had always been strained but the two had been doing better recently. Damian was even using Tim’s given name.
“I don’t know that’s what we need to find out. They are going on a camping trip this weekend so we will have to split up. Some of us will stay here and keep investigating and some of us will go after them and see of they can learn anything.”
-
“Ellie, love. It’s time to wake up. Papa and I have a surprise planned.” Tim gently shook his daughter awake.
“Hmm. Daddy?” She mumbled. Opening her eyes look at him. She sat up only to flop her weight onto his shoulder. Tim laughed as he picked her up. Carrying Ellie to the kitchen Tim heard Dan waking up with much more energy. This is why Danny get to wake him up.
“Daddy! Daddy!” Dan sprinted into the kitchen followed by Danny. “Papa said you had a surprise! What is it? Where is it? When can I have it?” Yes. Dan certainly got his father’s energy.
“Hmm. Loud" Ellie muttered into Tim’s shoulder. And she definitely got Tim’s. Especially in the mornings.
“I already said Dan. You have to wait until after breakfast to get the surprise.” Danny laughed as he picked him up and held him upside-down. Tim reached over with his free hand to tickle him as Ellie sleepily giggled at her brother’s plight.
Not a secret family, you're just oblivious. Part 0.5
Part 1
Essentially, how Tim and Danny met.
Tim didn’t know what to do anymore. All of his plans have fallen through and he still didn’t know how to get Bruce back. He might not be particularly close with the man but he wouldn’t abandon his colleague when he knew he could do something. Especially if he is the only one even willing to try. But he was to the point where he couldn’t do anything else.
He double checked all of the security in the safe house before settling in to try for some rest but when he got back to the bed there was a glowing green sticky note on his pillow that definitely wasn’t there two minutes ago. That shouldn’t be possible. He grabbed his staff and slowly approached.
“You will have a chance to free the bat from the tapestry of time of you put your expertise to good use. The café that watches you in Chicago will start you on the right path in one week. Fly quickly red bird"
-
Tim was clearly desperate. He had made it to Chicago in time but finding what he could only hope was the right café was difficult. The cafés logo was of an eye reflecting a red bird. He couldn’t find any other cafes that made sense. He sat on the roof across the street and watched for some sign that he was right. Then his eye caught sight of green.
In front of another teen about Tim’s age there was a green sticky note. Tim couldn’t read it from here but it was clear the other teen was sent by the same force. Tim watched the other, they looked like they hadn’t slept in weeks, not that he could talk. But in their face he could see the same desperation. He decided to approach.
-
Danny didn’t know what to do. He had moved out of Amity a year ago when his parents found out about Phantom. He could still hear his mom telling him that of she ever saw him again she would kill him. He hated it. So here he was with his fake identity Tucker set up living on his own at sixteen. But not really on his own anymore. Not with Dan and Ellie in the cloning pods to unstable to be released with bodies far to young for them. Danny didn’t know what to do, so he was grateful for the glowing note that just appeared in front of him.
“Wait where you are. The answer is coming to you.” So he sat until a teen his same age sat across from him and set his own note on the table.
“This said if I put my skills to work here it would save the person I’m searching for. I’m Alvin, what skills do you need.” He had medium length dark hair and tiered blue eyes. Danny could see himself in that exhaustion, the type of exhaustion that doesn’t fit on a face that young. He could tell Alvin could see it in him too.
“How much do you know about cloning.”
-
Tim stared at the tiny bodies in the glowing liquid. It looked so much like Lazarus Water but if felt nothing like it. The clones were just slightly to small to be a healthy new born size. “They were my clones.” Danny said from behind him. “Because of how damaged my DNA is they were never stable, they used to be around our age. This is the oldest I can keep them stable, that’s why I need your help.”
Tim glanced back at him. “And your help?” he couldn’t even pretend he wouldn’t help if Danny couldn’t save Bruce. He couldn’t abandon the tiny forms in the pods not without the ghost of eyes he would never see again on his back.
“The way your friend is stuck in time is difficult. He’s not stuck at a fixed point but drifting through it. We can’t just grab him and bring him here without causing several tears in the time stream. What we can do is make a pathway and have the exact time and place he will exit predetermined.” Danny explained.
Okay. That would work. Even if Tim couldn’t get to the time and place he could send other heroes. He just needed proof of the time stream being altered. “Is there a way to get proof that he is in there?” he asked.
“Hm, maybe if there is a magic user whoever you’re trying to convince will believe."
Tim can work with that.
-
“Damn it!” Danny screamed as the Dan and Ellie destabilized and got younger again. Alvin came up behind him and put a hand on his shoulder. Danny broke down sobbing. He couldn’t lose them he couldn’t.
Alvin pulled him into a hug. Running a hand through his hair. “It will be okay Danny we will figure this out” Danny calmed down taking deep breaths. “They are stable for now go get a shower and some food I’ll keep an eye on them.”
-
Tim was alone in the lab staring at the tiny hands of the male clone. Little finger nails. Tim had always both wanted and dreaded the idea of a family but children this young gave him so much anxiety. They were so fragile. So small and helpless. He was helpless enough at that age that his parents stayed. But he stared at the babies in the tubes and could only think ‘oh no. I got attached.’
Not just to the clones either. He and Danny. Neither of them had acknowledged the kiss. They were sat in Danny’s living room eating and talking and just being with each other. Tim honestly wasn’t even sure who initiated it. But Danny didn’t even know his name. It wasn’t fair to him. Tim was so lost.
-
Human DNA. It was so simple but not really. Dan and Ellie needed DNA from a person other than Danny who was slightly liminal. Just enough that they were compatible but not enough that their own genetic makeup was damaged. That excluded pretty much everyone from Amity. Who could possibly… “Test me.” Danny looked up sharply at Alvin. “Alvin wha-" “You said I’m liminal. Barely but still. I’m probably the best option.” Alvin looked so determined.
“Okay.”
-
He was a match. Tim was a viable donor, but Danny needed to know the truth before he agreed to this. Tim’s life his feelings. The twins wouldn’t be Danny’s siblings anymore they would be his kids. His and Tim’s.
-
“Tim they are so tiny.” Danny looked up at his boyfriend. Tim laughed as he took pictures of Dante in Danny’s arms. Jazz was off to the side with her nice. Tim laughed. He laughed in a way he couldn’t remember laughing in years before finding Danny. He was so happy.
-
“I’ve beefed up you and Jazz's identities. As well as Melisa’s” Melisa wa the name of the twins fake mother who died in childbirth. She and Danny hadn’t been together just a one night stand. Her plan had always been to step out of the twins lives once they were born.
They had moved to Gotham were identities mattered less to the average employer for extra protection. It was also Tim’s home. He couldn’t ask Tim to leave it.
-
The twins were at Jazz's for the night so that Tim and Danny could have a date for their anniversary. The soon to be two year olds loved their Aunt so much. And Danny didn’t know what he’d do without his sister.
Tim and Danny had just gotten back to the apartment and Tim went to the kitchen to make coffee and tea for the two of them. Danny sat on the couch to wait for his boyfriend.
-
Tim had never pictured his life this way. Freshly eighteen with two kids at the courthouse getting married. He wouldn’t change it for the world.
Bruce looked up at the notification that showed on the corner of his screen. Was it necessarily healthy or moral for him to monitor when his children marked themselves as unavailable to their daytime obligations? Probably not. Was it but it the best way to know when they were hiding injuries? Absolutely. He really wished his children hadn’t inherited his inability to communicate, but here he was.
He opened the window betting with himself who it was. He was shocked to find it was Tim. Usually his most reliable child Tim was almost professional in everything he did and he typically wasn’t the type to hide injuries. Looking at the out of office message Tim had sent to the higher-ups at WE Bruce was even more confused.
“Hello. I know I am already scheduled to be out of office this weekend but I wanted to be clear that I will be unavailable for emails and phone calls also. I will be out of town with my family. Please redirect any immediate concerns to Lucius.” It wasn’t like Tim to set such an easily disproved alibi given that the rest of the family will still be in town. Also he shouldn’t have any cases that took him away currently, unless it was something with his team. That made the most sense. Bruce would just have to make sure that his story about family time was corroborated when he got back. Wait there was a reply to his message.
It was from Lucius “Good. You really need to take more time off, Mr. Drake. Tell Danny and the twins we say hi and to make sure you relax." Danny. Twins. What. Who is Lucius talking about? Did he misread who the message was from? No, it was addressed to Mr. Drake. Bruce pulled up Tim’s personnel file to see if he had some sort of fake sibling or cousin cover or something and paused at the relations portion.
Jack Fenton – Father-in-law (No contact, dangerous)
Madeline Fenton – Mother-in-law (No contact, dangerous)
-
What was happening? Bruce looked into the records a marriage certificate from three years ago when Tim was 18. It looked real and didn’t seem backdated but there was no way he would have missed this. His son was married.
Twins. He looked for the children information. Five years old. And from the pictures of Tim holding a baby less than six months old he had been in their lives pretty much the whole five years. He had grandchildren. How did this happen? How could he not have known?
He needed to call a family meeting. Now, while Tim was out of town. Someone had to know something.
Based on this, but if it were dead tired. I wrote this on my old blog that I deleted for reasons, so now i am rewriting it. Essentially Tim sees the bats as coworkers and never thinks to bring up that he's married with kids to them.
-
Tim had had the kind of day at work that required an uninterrupted ten minute rant about people's stupidity. Maybe "day" isn't the right term because it wasn't his day job as CEO of WE that had given him this headache but his night job with the bats. Luckily, by the time he got home from patrol, the twins were asleep, and he could sit and relax with his husband. His amazing husband who was perfectly willing to listen to his rants and remind him that he chose to be the only non family member working in a family business.
"So what happened this time?" Danny asked an already made cup of camomile tea in hand.
"Jason and Bruce spent all of patrol arguing over coms, and because Bane was out and active tonight, no one could change the channel. So it was literal hours of hearing personal family drama I don't want or need to know about. At least we caught Bane" Tim groaned, throwing himself onto the couch.
"Oh, that's rough. Makes me think of when I had my job as a mechanic back in Amity, but at least I was fairly close friends with the Mitchells." Danny laughed as he picked Tim's legs up, settling them on his lap after he sat down. "On the bright side, you are scheduled for patrol again until Tuesday, right?"
"That's true, and I don't need to go into the office until Monday, so it's a full weekend off." He sighed as Danny started rubbing his feet. "And I get to spend it with the best husband ever."
After a few minutessittingin comfortable silence, Danny spoke up, "Do you think you'd be up for going out of town with the twins? We could go to that campsite and hiking trail we were thinking about going to for fall break. Take your camera and get some nice nature shots."
Tim thought about it. It had been a while since he had taken the time to do some photography, and he knows Dan and Ellie will love it. "Okay, hand me my laptop. I'll book a campsite," he said, sitting up.
It had been a few years since Vlad and Danny had stopped being enemies, years since Amity had been at peace with the ghosts. Danny spent his days teaching his children (he assumed they were his children) about well, everything.
Dan and Ellie had prefabricated knowledge, the halfa couldn't quite get it, but the point was that while they knew who was the creator of the chemistry, they had no idea how to do 2 + 2, so he made it his homework to fill in all the gaps.
No one at Amity blinked at the 30-year-boy-who-was-actually-12 and the 15-year-girl-who-was-actually-4, Danny guessed they had gotten used to the weirdness. One day, Vlad called and pointed out that someone had entered his database a few months ago (apparently he checked his digital security very little when he didn't make "evil" plans) and they had stolen the plans for the cloning capsule. Danny had a bad feeling.
Of course, it was after a month of searching that he found out about Lex Luthor's little "project." To say that he was angry was an understatement; he found the poor Superboy being mind controlled. He felt sad when he remembered Ellie's situation and well, he ended up stealing a clone child and destroying some laboratory. Like old times.
The world did not know of Phantom; Amity was suspicious, almost jealous that their protector could be taken away if they said a word, so they didn't say anything out of the city. It's not like the League did anything when they called. Danny didn't care, less tedious meetings and contingency plans for him. Besides, he wasn't excited about going back to the field if he didn't have to, as long as Amity was safe, the world could be destroyed for all he cared.
He wondered if spending too much time with Dan was affecting him, but in the end he dismissed the thought. Upon arriving home, Superboy had woken up and was being interrogated by the Phantoms. He chose his name to be Conner (sounds good apparently) and agreed to take classes to fill in the gaps of knowledge, just like Ellie, he seemed uncomfortable with the gaps.
The poor boy looked uncomfortable, waiting for the other shoe to drop, but it never did. After finding out whose clone he was, he wondered if they would take him to Superman, but Danny just snorted. By the end of the week, Conner was a Phantom, and he was fine with that. Danny even told him that he could live normally if he wanted to, and the boy happily accepted the offer. Conner didn't want to be a hero, at least not that early, and Danny was happy with his decision.
Danny frowned thinking of all the heroes who would say that is "selfish" for someone with power to not to use it. But he believed that they were doubly selfish. Being a teenage hero wasn't fucking easy. He hugged Conner, welcoming him to the family and within days, the whole town already knew about him (they also knew whose clone he was, but they didn't really care, they weren't snitching).
Curiously, it was Tim Drake who noticed the strange family visiting Gotham (a 23-year-old seemed to be berating a 30-year-old for stealing tires, he snorted at the irony). However he froze when he saw Clark?, but much younger, speaking in Kryptonian and laughing. He called a meeting in the batcave and tried to call the family, but as soon as they saw the expression in his face they vanished from sight.
Danny saw the Wayne kid staring at Connor and knew he recognised him. Shit. He was not letting someone steal his kid. What were the chances really? Bloody Fenton luck. He grabbed Connor and turned them both invisible. Ellie and Dan followed suit. He dragged them all off to their hotel.
Once they were somewhere safe again he sat down turning visible again. His kids looked so confused.
Danny: A Wayne brat took one look at Connor and recognised him. And the Wayne's fund the Justice League. They are going to dig into this. We need a plan.
Dan: Uh, Dad? We planned for this remeber?
Ellie: Gaslight, Gatekeep, Girlboss!
Connor: Dad. It's ok. If they find out they find out. What are they gonna do really? If they wanted a say in where I live and what I do they should have rescued me!
Danny: I mean. Yeah. But still. I meant for our holiday. Are we just going to ignore them. And just go about our holiday. Or..... Are we going to cause chaos?
Ellie: I vote chaos. But! Connor is the one affected so....
Connor: I vote chaos too. How are we gonna do this?
That would be hilarious! Rogues see a meta family on holiday. Being stalked by the bats. And just go nope! Not on our watch! Hey guys! Wanna cause some trouble! Let's keep pulling Shit and ditching. The bats have to keep running after us. Letting the poor family escape!
Brice is confused as hell because why the fuck is all his Rogues choosing now of all times to make a mess of Gotham!? It's interrupting their investigation into the Meta family with what is likely a Superman clone! It's Harley who spills the beans that it's the entire point.
"Like, so what if the kid looks like Supes!? They ain't doing anything, they're just a family on vacay!"
"It's the fact he is clearly Kryptonian that's the issue, Harley."
"I don't see how? Is he destroying buildings and shooting lazer eyes!?"
Meanwhile the Phantom's? Are just pleased to not be stalked. And may have slipped Harley and Waylon some inventions to play with. Harley loves her new mallet. She has no idea who they got it to be so light! And it's collapsible!
Waylon? Now has tazer gloves. He is a happy man. The bat brats ain't gonna know what hit em!
Throughout this all they make only one, singular mistake. They forgot to check what Joker was doing. And when the Clown Prince of Crime found out there was a family of Meta civilians his fellow Rogues were putting out all the stops to keep off the Bats' radar, let's jsut say he became very, very interested and offended that nobody even bothered to invite him.
Joker made the mistake of believing he was dealing with human metas. Fortunately for the Phantom's? They are all only half human. And well.... Danny is a very protective Father. Joker didn't get very far into his stalking before he was spotted. Which made him give up observation to attack swiftly. That proved to be a mistake. His last mistake.
After that incident? They go home. After phasing the body into the ground. Look, what Batman doesn't know, won't get Danny arrested! No body, no proof! And as ghosts? They can't be caught on camera. Gotham cameras are not Ecto proof. So any that might have been able to see? Would have been unusable static.
Getting back home is good though. Clockwork had agreed to do a special trip for Connor to connect to his Kryptonian heritage. They were going to visit Krypton years before the destruction! Danny was super excited to share it! And a few Kryptonian ghosts had been teaching them all cultural stuff anyway. It would be a great trip!
Clockwork "accidentally" arranges for Danny, Dan and Ellie to be mistaken for/become Kryptonian Gods of Balance and Death, and Connor their demigod son/ward. Both because it would give them all additional protection, and because the expression on Superman's face when he recognizes them will be PRICELESS.
My question is what is there to see in Gotham? You’re on vacation cool what’s the tourist spot? The crater left by the bombs, the poisoned water supply? The cursed pier? What’s the goal here phantoms ?
Lol anyways I love Connor being adopted by the phantoms from the beginning, no self doubt n hatred or cruel rewrite of his names meaning. Just this is my family and I belong here.

Damian and Danny are twins. The difference? Talia didn't hide Danyal from JUST Bruce, Damian had never known himself. Danny was a sickly child as well as the younger twins, so when Damian was declared the Heir that Ra's Al Ghoul wanted, the spare was disposed of.
Talia, in this one she actually cares quite a lot about her childres, and couldn't stand the idea of killing her child, so she instead sent him to an orphanage in Bumfuck Nowhere Amity Park. Both Danny and Damian were still infants at the time and would not have remembered each other.
Danny gets adopted by the Fentons and gets turned into a halfa at 14, all the things. But when it came time to tell the Fentons, they did not take it well. Jazz was out of town, in Central City, working in her degree. Sam and Tucker were out of town, both dragged off to some event or other in separate states. Danny was caught transforming, didn't have time to escape before the Fentons dragged him into the lab.
Talia has been keeping tabs on he youngest. She's very proud of the name he's made for himself even after dying. She isn't in a position to save him. If her father had found out she hadn't killed Danyal like ordered, she'd be punished and Danyal killed. She goes to the only other person she can trust with this. She goes to Bruce and Damian.
She doesn't really explain it, just tells Bruce Damian had been a twin, that she had to fake the twin's death when they had still been too young to remember each other and why, and that Danyal was now in danger from hsi own foster family. She gave him a copy of one of Fenton's research papers, a copy of the Anti-Ecto Acts, and the medical records from Danny's accident... all things she had stolen for herself when it had happened, and it became clear Danny was a meta. She had been trying to protect him, making his abnormalities look temporary and adjusting his vitals to look like a human who just had a really, really bad shock.
Danyal had always been her favorite, not due to anything Damian had done, but simply due to the fact that her Father had si h a close eye on his Heir she wasn't allowed to have any sort of relationship with him that wasn't pre-approved. Where with Danny he has a particularly familiar looking babysitter who would look after him and Jazz when he was younger, and his parents were on a research binge for weeks on end or out of town. Oddly enough only he had known about her because Jazz never mentioned anything about Miss Thalia
Bruce is mentally making a list of questions for after he saves his unknown son. For fucks sake Talia! Why didn't she give him Danyal! Why is she like this! But right now it is far more important to save him from his adoptive parents. The laws and research were quickly sent to the Justice League. They can start finding this GIW. And fighting the laws. Bruce and his kids have a kid to save. Fenton's to arrest. He just hopes he gets there in time.
Bruce, staring at the papers Talia has left for him to find and the written note explaining that Damian was a twin because of COURSE she couldn't make things easy for him: God damnit Talia!
Damian is shooketh but the news he has a twin. A younger brother who he never had a chance to meet. One that Grandfather had deemed unfit enough to dispose of but that his mother had loved enough to save. He's feeling a lot of emotions right now.
The rest of Batclan can not wait to meet the new brother! But they're worried, oh so worried. The government made it legal to experiment on him!? He's in danger!? It's only Bruce and Damian on the rescue mission, but the rest are keeping their ears on the comms.
Danny, he knows none of this. He's hurting, and his parents are doing horrible things to him. He thinks he night just die for real this time, killed by his own parents. His worst nightmare as they try to "get the spook out of their son!" Then there's suddenly a loud noise and Batman is there with Robin? Robin is threatening his parents with a sword?? What in the-!?
Somewhere in Danny's distant memory of Ms. Talia, Danny remembers her telling him all sorts of stories about the Bat of Gotham. She'd sown in him a fascination with the grim vigilante and his colorful sidekicks. He'd still thought the space and alien heroes were cooler of course; but Ms. Talia had always insisted that if Danny was ever in any true danger, Batman would help him, save him. So Danny had always held his interest in the Gotham heroes, staying up to date on them right up until he took up his own heroics and didn't have time any more.
So this was a hallucination. His grieving core and pain addled brain trying to provide some meager comfort in what is probably his last moments. That's the only logical explanation for the Gotham vigilantes suddenly appearing in Bumfuck Nowhere Amity Park. The whole scenario must be a hallucination, because Mom and Dad seem to react to the intruding heroes.
Hallucination Robin brandishes his katana expertly against Hallucination Mom. Not even her hallucination black belt makes her a match against the other boy. Hallucination Batman has already subdued Hallucination Dad and is now leaning over the autopsy table. His hulking figure blocks out the bright overhead fluorescent, granting blessed relief from the searingly bright light. Dimly, Danny thinks Real Dad must be hunched over him again, prodding around searching for some tangible aspect of the ghost to rip it out of his son.
While Hallucination Robin finishes with Hallucination Mom, Hallucination Batman reaches an oh so gentle, kevlar gloved hand to wipe tears of Danny's face. The hand radiates such surprising warmth, Danny wonders if Real Dad is touching him there too for some reason. It feels so good, Danny knows if he had the energy, he'd be nudging into the hand, asking for more. Of course, as it stands, all Danny can do is watch the fantasy play out through half lidded eyes.
Hallucination Batman is talking now. The words are muddled and muffled, as though Danny were deep underwater; but Hallucination Batman's tone tastes like warmth and reassurance undercut with a myriad of other emotions -grief, fear, uncertainty, guilt, rage, love, love, love. It's nice. It's really really nice. The warmth alone is so incredible. Danny hasn't known warmth in so long now. And even though the words are lost, the reassuring tone is such a soothing balm in comparison to the cold clinical voices and ragged screaming that's been ringing in his ears. And the emotional cocktail from Hallucination Batman sings of care, protection, safety.
Everything in Danny relaxes. It's a hallucination. Danny knows it could be nothing else. But comfort, even fake, is something he so desperately craves right now. Danny can't help but indulge in it. The half lung left in his chest cavity inflates as much as it can, then deflates completely as Danny lets out the last breath in a gusty sigh. His eyes slip closed and Danny doesn't fight it, nor the tingly numbness encroaching in his remaining limbs. He lets it happen -embraces it even- focusing on the warmth Hallucination Batman is providing, simply grateful his core and brain managed to concoct for him such a gentle way to die.
Bruce has to take Danny to the Watchtower. There isn't even a choice in the matter. With the Anti-Ecto Acts in place, he won't be able to take Danny to a hospital, and there isn't enough time to get him to the Batcave. Clark is used to emergency calls from Bru e involving League business, but he's never been called for a personal matter. And he's most certainly never heard his best friend sound so terrified and desperate. He is there within seconds only to see Bruce cradling a kid who looks like Damien to his chest, the boy's bloody and still. A pair of scientists knocked out and handcuffed.
As soon as Bruce managed to get the restraints off his son? He is being taken to the med-evac team. Who all look incredibly worried about his condition. Bruce, Bruce can't lose him. Not another son. Not without ever knowing him. Bruce was glad Superman had forced him into the plane. If he had been left with the Fenton's, there was no way he wouldn't hurt them. Damian was sat tense at his side. Neither able to speak. Horrified at the state Danyal, Danny, was in. Bruce knew he should do something, say something. Damian was only 15. He needed something, anything. But Bruce had nothing. He was glad Dick would be with them soon, in a distant part of his mind. Dick would know how to help Damian. For now, all he could do was watch as his son was given as much care as possible. He had to hope it would be enough. That he could pull through. That his meta abilities would help.
Now, being a halfa, Danny's powers are both a blessing and a curse. His powers are keeping him alive, but because so little is known about ecto-entities that isn't biased against them and Danny's own biology is unique even amongst ghosts... there isn't a baseline. The medics have no idea how his vitals are supposed to work and how his powers interact with his biology! All they have is an unedited copy of Danny's medical report from the accident and whatever they were able to piece together themselves.
It's just barely enough to keep him alive.
Once they get to the Watchtower, Bruce doesn't have the chance to do much more than see Danny get rolled into the infirmary before Clark and Diana are both there, equal parts supportive and questioning. Bruce hadn't had the chance to give much in his panicked call for assistance, just enough to know it was anpwrsonal matter that has bled into League Matters and that the boy they saved was somehow important to Bruce. It's here, during the debrief where ehe has to explain that Damian's birth mother had reached out to them out of nowhere to inform them that Samian and in fact been a twin and that said twin was in danger, that everything finally hit Bruce. Dick has already been at the Watchtower and had dragged Damian off, or else he'd have insisted on staying in the room with the medics while they tended to his twin.
Danny is comatose for two weeks and wakes up, confused and scared to find himself in an unfamiliar place with Batman himself passed out next to his bedside. All he can really grasp was that somehow, someway that hallucination he vaguely remembers was not a hallucination at all and had been real. Which brings three major questions to mind: Why did Batman come and save him? Where was he? And what was going to happen to him now?
Consider: It's not just Batman there. There's been a rotating cast of all the Bats. Anyone who isn't actively patrolling or maintaining their civilian ID has been spending their time in or around the Watchtower med bay room. There's signs of them being there. Extra seats and tables pulled into the room. Little piles of hospital blankets and pillows adorning any surface decent for sleeping. Laptops and tablets and files dotted around where the Bats have been working on cases there.
And Danny is all the more confused. What is this? Is this real? How could it be? But it doesn't feel like a dream or hallucination. If anything, his mind feels clearer than it has since...
Nothing makes sense. Everything feels weird and wrong and off-kilter. Slightly unreal. And while his physical wounds have been tended to, Danny's core still aches and pulses with grief and betrayal and confusion. What could he possibly do but cry?
Before properly waking up, there are a few false starts where Danny surfaces for a few moments, looks around, then drifts back out. During those times, he sees various faces, each more confusing than the last. Batman and Robin, then Nightwing, then Superman and Wonder Woman, then Martian Manhunter, then Red Hood.
It's around the time he sees Ms. Talia, petting his head and surrounded by a bunch of sleeping heroes, that his mind gives up entirely on trying to understand anything he's seeing.
