Asa still remembers that conversation so, so clearly. Sore feet, the smell of sunscreen when she brushed her hair back. That dream of a completed Shurijo main hall, striking scarlet braced against those roiling white clouds, first in an onslaught of somedays and agains.
"I want to bring Gabby too!" She could picture it - Gabby, vivid and lovely as the vermilion tiles. The guidebook explained how the color was achieved, trivia forgotten in favor of how badly she wanted this.
Why not be greedy? she felt, in a voice like Break's. Why not? There she was wishing for field trips, for her parents, for normal. Picture Gabby giddy, not heartbroken or furious she was left behind. A vision. Why not?
"This castle's bright red. She'd totally love it!"
Yuru's expression had soured, like he had been hit by a foul smell. Through gritted teeth he'd growled, "You two can go by yourselves!" followed by something that doesn't matter.
Her brother's amazing, you know. If he didn't keep his word, it can only be because he forgot.

(The state palace hasn't been rebuilt yet. They probably should have checked that out before booking the trip.)
Ryūtan pond is a wonderful break from the heat, cool air skimming the its surface and lurking in the shade. It's all so green, even the water - seeped from reflections of lush bishopwood and fig trees. Southward stands a wall of ancient stone, between them and that red castle on the hill. From this angle Asa has to look up just to catch a glimpse of crimson rooftops.
She has to look up at Yuru now, too.
"If they were someone's ducks," he insists, "they wouldn't leave them unguarded."
Gabby throws up her hands. "You know what?" she snaps. "Fuck it. Go on then - take out your bow. Don't come cryin' to me when the cops bust your ass for killing a random bird!"
"Hey, I wouldn't be crying - I'd be well fed!" Yuru crosses his arms exactly like Left; it's a less intimidating display when she isn't looming over his shoulder.
"How? Gonna light a fire in a public park, dumbass?"
Asa sighs, sharing a look with Gabriel. They clack their teeth in support as she says, "Down, you two." They don't hear her - not that she was really trying to be heard. She's not worried. A lot has changed over three years - like Asa! She's trying out this fashion thing; a cross-collar black halter top and red lipstick, because that's what young ladies wear when they want to feel pretty. And she does feel pretty, she thinks, though it's hard to tell since she spent most of the day with her brother. And Gabby.
Anyway. She's pretty sure that Yuru isn't going to feather Gabby with arrows again. This is friendly sparring between opinionated friends, all bark and no bite (get it? Right and Left? Gabriel? She stifles a snicker).
Indian Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan resigned on Saturday in response to rising pressure from student-led protests.
‘Cockroach Movement’ Forces Out India’s Education Minister
"Indian Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan resigned on Saturday amid mounting pressure from the “Cockroach Movement,” which demanded major government reforms—starting with his departure. Student activists accused Pradhan of failing to safeguard a competitive medical school exam, the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET), after authorities concluded that its contents had been leaked online. ...
Without accepting fault, [Education Minister Pradhan] explained that he had agreed to step down in order to prevent “anti-national forces” from exploiting the upheaval.
Abhijeet Dipke, the founder of the CJP, celebrated the resignation with fellow protesters in New Delhi on Saturday.
“It's a victory for the people of India,” Dipke said to the crowd. He later posted an image of India’s Constitution on social media, with the caption: “Thank you.” ...
On the advice of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Indian President Droupadi Murmu appointed Pralhad Joshi—who already oversees the ministries of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, along with New and Renewable Energy—to oversee the Ministry of Education “in addition to his existing portfolio,” which is a typical arrangement in India following a Cabinet vacancy and does not preclude a later permanent appointment...
CJP Spokesperson Saurav Das said in an interview with local media ANI following the president’s announcement that the party members will be meeting the new education minister “very soon.” ...
What Comes Next for the CJP?
The CJP established its list of demands on May 16. In addition to calling for Pradhan’s resignation, the CJP asked for compensation of 10 million rupees ($104,000) for each student who died by suicide following the leak.
They also sought greater legislative oversight of the educational system, gender equity in government roles, a fully independent media, and certain reforms to the electoral and political system—such as creating a 20-year ban on politicians switching parties before seeking election.
Adding to those mandates, the CJP last week asked that the central government drop any potential charges against protesters, after claiming that several had been “illegally detained” by police.
Following Pradhan’s resignation, representatives from the CJP met with officials from the Indian government to discuss the rest of the party’s demands. In a press conference following the meeting, Das said on Saturday that the negotiations had been successful.
"All our demands have been accepted,” he said, without elaboration. “We request the protesters to withdraw immediately and return home peacefully."
The CJP added during the press conference on Saturday that representatives from the movement would meet with officials again in four weeks to work on broader reforms. Its spokesperson told local media that the fight for a transparent educational system is far from over.
He said that members of the CJP conveyed to officials that if the issues are not addressed, the protesters will reconvene “and demand accountability.”

This is easily one of the CRAZIEST videos I've ever gotten. I was rafting down a river when a Yellow Jacket came, landed on my bright pink waterproof phone pouch, and started drinking from the water droplets that had gathered there.
The most amazing part is how the water droplet magnifies the Hornet's mouth parts, so you get to see them up-close!!!! It was FASCINATING to witness!
