Chapter 7: Backscatter
FINALLY I posted chapter 7 of Flagged!!! Thank you to whoever is still here and reading!
Chapter 7: Backscatter
Hi everyone, just wanted to let you all know I am all good and well haha. I've been a little busy with work and stuff but more importantly, I am kind of blocked 🫣.
I've completed most of chapter 7 and was going to post it, but I decided to make it longer and although I know where the story is going, I'm lacking a little motivation to write it.
Not to fear though, I will re read some of my favorite Jelsa fanfics and get re-inspired to post really soon. I'll also be more active on here again.
Thanks for sticking around! Here's a snippet of Chapter 7:
Jack rubbed his eyes.
As he blinked away black spots, he was able to really feel the throbbing in his head, as a painful reminder of what happened the night before. He didn’t usually get hungover, but then again, he didn’t usually encounter situations like he had last night. Laying in his bed, Jack didn’t bother trying to get up. He didn’t even want to think about how much harder his head would pound if he dared to move up or even around, so he threw his arm across his face to block out the light and tried to think back to last night.
He remembered going to the club. His best friend, Flynn, had invited him out. It was his girl’s birthday and after hearing how on-edge Jack sounded over the phone, he convinced Jack to come out and party, just to blow off a little steam. If there was one philosophy Jack had, it was to always have fun, no matter the circumstance.
No matter if he saw Rick Dicker’s lifeless body every time he closed his eyes.
After all, it was just part of the job. People died. Life went on. There was no use in moping about it, in fact, Jack decided to pour a drink in Dicker’s honor and decompress a little bit. It didn’t matter if his dickhead of a father tossed him off the case because Jack had every intention of resuming his work, even if it was from his own house. The only problem was that he was now lacking a very important tool that he was positive he’d need to break the case.
His partner.
For the past two days, whenever Jack thought about Elsa, his heartbeat sped up. Their most recent interaction was eating him up inside and whenever he thought about what he had told her, it made him feel physically ill, with his stomach starting to turn uncomfortably. He was all too aware of his tendency to push people away; he’d had enough talks with his shrink during his forced visits to the therapist at his father’s insistence, (some would say that Jack was a problem child, but he just liked to have a bit of fun). Of course, his shrink gave him the usual ‘You crave attention and push people away’ bullshit. It wasn’t really that deep in Jack’s opinion, but after vandalizing too many classrooms and pulling too many pranks it was sort of court mandated that he endured them.
Still, he couldn’t help but mull it over. He’d been with his share of girls, but this was a new feeling. With Elsa, he was impressed with everything she did. He couldn’t quite put his finger on the pulse of what it was, but ever since they were at Quantico together, he couldn’t pull his eyes away from her. Her white hair, the big blue eyes, cheeks dusted with freckles, whenever he saw her, he just couldn’t look away. It wasn’t just the fact that she was genuinely the most strikingly beautiful woman he’d ever seen, but her mind and the way it worked intrigued him so deeply that he’d climb inside her brain and explore it if had the chance to. Whenever there was a question, her hand was first in the air, shooting up silently, yet with a scream ‘I know this. And I know it better than everyone else.’ At first, it thoroughly annoyed him. Who did that chick think she was? She moved with an air of uptightness, making it very clear that she thought she better than everyone else. This had prompted him to put up his hand to answer questions, even faster than her. It was new to him because he was not the question answering type. Usually, classes bored him to no end since he already had a good grasp of everything he was being taught. He never studied, never needed to, because everything always came so easily to him, and that time could have been better spent goofing off with Hiccup and Flynn.
But not at Quantico. Because there was in his class a girl who made him ache to be better. He saw how Elsa would shoot him with an icy glare whenever he would an answer a question instead of her, or when he would refute something, she said. Although it bothered him a little that she would look at him like that, at least it put her attention on him. He’d smirk at her annoyance and take special note of the fact that she would huff out of classes or training. He smiled lightly as he recalled how the night before their big final theory exam he had mulled over books and studied in the library, something he’d never done before just because he wanted to beat her in the exam. And although he gave it his best effort, she beat him.
As Jack mulled all of this over, he wondered if Elsa remembered that time at all. He knew that she remembered some of it, but he wondered if she was just pretending that she didn’t really remember him. Her preconceived notions of him seemed to say otherwise, the way she disliked him had to be personal. She seemed like the kind of girl who liked to be the best at things and surely, she would recall the one person who had stood in the way of that. Despite all of that though, the fact that they never talked outside of class, or never really crossed paths while working at the Bureau, which just made him more interested in her. Whether he liked it or not, the interest he’d taken in her changed him. While trying to be better than her, Jack had improved himself a lot. He used to be messy and unorganized in his youth, with a lackluster attitude and a devil-may-care approach to life. Obviously, that wouldn’t fly working at the FBI, and it would not work in beating Elsa. Even after graduating training, he had carried his newfound attitude into his work and even he could admit that if he hadn’t grown up and matured a little, he probably wouldn’t have found the success he saw in his career.
Jack took another deep breath and tried to recall why he had started thinking about all of this in the first place (he’d always have trouble focusing on something, he either became hyper focused or his mind jumped from topic to topic, and he found that retracing his steps usually helped him straighten out). As he unraveled his thought process, he remembered why he started thinking about the past in the first place and a hot pit of uneasiness grew in his stomach, causing a bitter taste to rise to his throat. He was nasty to Elsa. Incredibly and inexcusably mean to her a few nights ago and he felt ashamed when he thought about that. He wanted to text her afterwards and tell her that he was sorry, but that wouldn’t do much. Jack knew deep in his heart that the reason he said those things to her wasn’t completely because he wanted to shift the blame for Ricker’s death. He knew to himself that he found that in spending so much time with Elsa, he had grown to liking her way more than he felt comfortable with.
Jack finally decided that it was time to get out of bed and he tried to ignore the way his head pulsed as he swung his feet over the edge of his bed. He knew from the ache in his throat and the soreness of his shoulders that it was not going to be a pleasant day. As he shuffled to the bathroom to bush the nasty morning breath out of his mouth, his mind drifted to Elsa again, as it did most days. He hadn’t expected to see her last night, of course Flynn didn’t mention that Rapunzel had a gorgeous platinum blonde cousin that would be at the club that. So, when Jack saw that very gorgeous platinum blonde cousin at the bar, his heart caught in his throat. She looked good, too good with her hair bouncing around her. He liked her without make-up, as he usually saw her, but what she did wear last night did a wonderful job of accentuating her features, especially bringing out the ocean blue of her eyes. And her shirt, he so rarely saw her in dark colors, but black looked incredibly good on her porcelain skin, he knew that he wouldn’t be able to get the way that her shirt dipped low acting as a window to the soft looking, supple mounds of her inner breasts, out of his head.
Jack choked on toothpaste.

Flagged Chapter 6: FAULTLINE
“You think this is funny? Nothing about this is funny! I don’t want to see you! Why did you even follow me here you creepy asshole?” He laughed at that, this time a little bitterly, “Can you get a grip? You love to call me egotistical, but you’re making me being here about you!”
Next to her, a few people glanced around, and Elsa laughed, “Yeah, whatever Jack. I’m not going to cause another scene with you, again. Don’t want you to bite my head off a second time.” As she turned to walk away, he grabbed her elbow and pulled her back to him, “Don’t walk away from me Arendelle.” He looked at her and leaned his head down, “I’m sorry.”
