It took every ounce of willpower for Damian to stay in place, to hold his ground. He wasn’t a man that backed down from a fight or played victim… but what defense could he possibly use against a person–a creature–like Daken? The man just kept coming back.

“There’s nothing to convince. I know my truth.”

His voice was soft, low, almost a whisper as he stared at Daken, shoulders squared, hands… trembling just slightly.

His patience had it’s limits. Lester bit down on his offending digit and bit it off at the joint, spitting it on the floor.

“Nah, that’s all on you, fuckhead.”

Hate swelled in him and his fingers itched to hurt Daken. Hadn’t he been n his meds he’d have been already doing his best to dismember his shitty husband. But that was what Daken wanted, he didn’t want to play into his game. It made his blood boil. It made him grit his teeth and force himself to remain seated in the couch. He wanted him dead. He wanted him hurt. He needed it— 

Lester breathed out and blinked slowly.

“Ain’t gonna touch you,” he replied with a sneering disgusted tone.

“Leave, asshole,” he clarified. Fighting Daken was just what he wanted. But was doing that thing where he deliberately confused him. Lester hated it.

“Fuck you.” He was on his pills – mostly.

“I ain’t lifting a finger for you. Well, unless ya kill the brat. Then we can renegotiate.”

“I will not run. I’m no coward, you piece of rotted filth.” Damian spits every word, as if each one is rancid in his mouth. Like Lester’s breath against his neck…

“I will not.”

“How many ways can I torture my husband? It’s getting a bit old hat to just deny him the sight of my devilish looks.”

“Do not touch me.” This time Damian took a large step back, a hand coming up on impulse to swat Daken’s hand away. Great, now he had to cut his hair. The mere thought of Daken getting a real hold on him had his skin crawling, his heart hammering against his ribs like a terrified rabbit.

Don’t react. Don’t let him see the extent of effect he has. Damian leaned back subtly, to keep distance between them when Daken loomed into his space.

“How unfortunate for you, that my type is far less psycho. I’m afraid we aren’t a match, I’m swiping left.”

The mutant chuckled darkly, features never falling far from amusement. “No, I’m afraid there won’t be a happy ending for you. I’ll always be here, little bird.”

The old nickname, laced with dark memories that he tried to bury, made his heart clench in his chest. Fear… he’d almost forgotten what this sort of fear felt like.
