          CURIOSITY  BEFALLEN   /   ONE  SOLDIER  TO  ANOTHER.   it  is  a  mortal  curse  to  wither  &  fade  once  time  is  spent,  asgardian  longevity  meaning  human  lives  are  mere  grains  in  the  inexorable  ebb  of  sand  running  through  his  own  hourglass.   yet  there  is  a  bravery  in  that  which  he  finds  fascinating,  to  live  in  such  fleeting  moments  despite  knowing  how  close  valhalla  beckons.

          purposefully  ignorant  of  aramis’  plea,  sidesteps  the  hand  that  reaches  to  pull  weight  back  on  shared  bench,  feet  planting  solidly  upon  tabletop   (   a  feat,  considering  alcohol’s  assistance   ),   ❛   tonight  we  celebrate  the  return  of  our  beloved  brother,  aramis             ❜   hearty  ‘hear hear’s’  drown  out  the  groan  from  companion  below,  bolstering  speech,   ❛             who  finally  realised  the  errors  of  his  ways  &  came  back  to  us.   ❜

          goblet  lifts,  rouge  liquid  staining  fingertips  as  it  spills  over  rim,   ❛              &  as  compensation  for  not  joining  us  on  the  battlefield,  has  kindly  agreed  to  pay  for  the  next  round.   to  aramis   !   ❜

originally  from  france,  charles  (   commonly  known  by  his  surname,  d’artagnan   )  &  his  father  alexandre  were  on  vacation  in  america  when  the  end  of  the  world  hit.

forced  to  flee  new  york,  they  made  their  way  south  —  picking  up  two  abandoned  horses  on  the  way  —  however  it  was  during  the  second  month  that  they  were  attacked  by  a  group  looking  to  steal  their  supplies  /  the  horses,  killing  alexandre  in  the  process.   vowing  revenge,  d’artagnan  carries  on  alone,  heavily  mistrustful  of  any  group  he  comes  across.

one  such  group  are  three  men,  a  case  of  mistaken  identity  in  athos  meaning  d’artagnan  attempts  to  fight  them  all  at  once  in  honour  of  his  father.   needless  to  say  he  fails  —  but  their  mercy  sows  the  seeds  of  begrudging  friendship,  three  becoming  four  as  time  passes,  loyalty  won.

eventually  the  four  establish  their  own  community  along  with  travellers  they’ve  met  along  the  way  —  THE  GARRISON  is  based  in  what  was  left  of  fort  meade,  abandoned  by  military  personnel  when  it  was  overrun  in  the  beginning.

verse  flexible  to  muse  :  either  d’artagnan  is  already  a  member  of  the  garrison  or  can  meet  muses  on  the  road  prior  to  the  friendship  of  athos  /  porthos  /  aramis.

d’artagnan  used  to  fence  (  sabre  was  his  forte  ),  meaning  he’s  quick  on  his  feet  &  good  with  a  sword  if  he  were  to  find  one  (  cough,  kingdom,  cough  ).   his  primary  weapon  is  a  ka-bar  military  knife  he  found  near  apocalypse’s  beginning,  dropped  by  a  marine  when  overrun  in  new  york.

france  has  its  own  branch  of  kingsman  —  nicknamed  MUSKETEERS  they  are  tasked  with  protecting  the  country  outside  of  the  normal  political  rules  &  regulations  the  DGSE  has  to  follow.   d’artagnan  is  his  code  name,  &  one  he  sticks  by,  living  up  to  the  legend.
