An eternal thank you to @mournwatchweek for hosting this event! The prompts really got me thinking creatively for my pieces- looking forward to the next event!
Seven meals shared at The Lighthouse and the conversations had around them.
New addition to If I Lead as a part of the @mournwatchweek 2026 collection, featuring my Rook Ingellvar! Unfortunately I was not able to complete the full seven chapters in time for the challenge, however I have enjoyed the prompts and plan to finish them as I find moments to spare. Currently there are 2 little chapters completed, I hope those who read, enjoy <3
Heads up, the prompts will be slightly out of order to fit the timeline of my canon, and the rating and tags will likely change or update in the future.
Every member of the Mourn Watch is adorned with gold throughout their lives. Many special occasions warrant the gifting of such pieces- each Watcher will be gifted something unique to them.
Brynrith Lunarel- initially adopted under the house of Ingellvar- was an orphan within the Grand Necropolis. Having no family ties in Nevarra, she was gifted her first piece of gold at eighteen by Vorgoth and Myrna. This remained her only piece until she began the professional, and later romantic, relationship with Emmrich Volkarin.

For Day 7 - Memento Vivere
I originally wanted to do a wedding fic here for Athos, Davrin, and Neve, but due to sudden staffing changes at work my workload has more or less permanently doubled. I will do a short wedding fic eventually, I just don't know when yet
On AO3 - Neve and Davrin meet Athos's relatives
The Ingellvar crypt was quiet as Rook stepped over the threshold. While he now lived in Minrathous, he visited often, knowing it would upset his family if he didn't. The tall qunari smiled as he stepped up to the bier and carefully set sticks of incense in their holder. He took a deep breath and focused on the incense, feeling the power of the Veil and the Necropolis around him and touched his finger tips to the incense. A small flame flared to life, burning merrily as the scent of myrrh filled the crypt.
A soft intake of breath behind him had Rook glancing over his shoulder. An amused smile flickered over his lips as he beckoned Neve and Davrin inside.
“Rook, you never said you were a mage,” Neve said in surprise as she and Davrin crossed the threshold.
Rook chuckled. “Only in the Necropolis, and only small magicks,” he explained. “Vorgoth believes it is because I am a Child of the Necropolis. Its halls sheltered and protected me as an infant until the skeletons found me, and I grew up in its embrace.”
“If anyone else were to say that, it would sound creepy,” Davrin observed. “But when you say it, it sounds perfectly normal and reasonable.”
“That's because it is,” Athos told his elven lover. “Come on, I want to introduce you to my uncles and aunts.”
As the smoke from the incense spread, forms began to flicker about the crypt. They heard the sound of rattling bone as a large qunari skeleton with glowing ruby eyes crept out of a coffin and straightened. It was clothed in gold and thick black fabric that looked surprisingly whole.Â
Davrin and Neve both tensed for a moment, relaxing very slowly when they saw Athos's expression light up. “Aunt Philpina!”
Two other shapes materialized in opposite corners of the crypt, these two taking the forms of spirits similar to the Greater Spirits of the Necropolis. “Aunt Milsana, Uncle Umbar,” Rook greeted them as well.
“You have finally brought your beloveds,” a pleasant female voice came from the skeleton's mouth. “Welcome dear souls of Athos. We have been waiting to meet you.”
“A powerful mage,” one of the spirits, one who glowed green, noted. “Quite lovely too, would you not agree, Umbar?”
Athos's Uncle Umbar glowed a soft, pleasant teal similar to Neve's hat. The spirit seemed to nod, “Yes, and a proud warrior. A Warden?” The spirit seemed to sigh. “Oh young Warden. The essence of death does haunt your steps.”
Davrin and Neve stood staring at the three undead, and Davrin felt an uneasy chill.
“Oh do not frighten them, Umbar,” Milsana scolded.
“The essence of death clings to them all,” Philipina murmured. “But they have time. Do not fret or worry, beloveds of our Athos. Memento vivere.”
“Remember to live?” Neve translated with a slight frown.
The skeleton nodded. “Yes. As the Calling shall take your Warden, Davrin, it shall take you and Athos. But you should not allow that to keep you from living your lives.”
Davrin looked somber. “I was afraid of that…that you two would suffer the Calling as well after Elgar'nan and the Blight.”
Athos shrugged, taking Davrin's hand in his left and Neve's in his right. “We knew it was a possibility. Death comes for us all eventually. I'd rather go with you and Neve.”
“We'd go, together,” Neve agreed firmly.
Davrin could only squeeze their hands at that. They stood silently, looking at each other a moment before Athos pulled them both into the crook of each arm and turned to face his relatives.
“Enough of that. As Aunt Philipina says, Memento Vivere,” Rook pronounced. “Now, I'd like to formally introduce you. Davrin, Neve, these are my Aunts Philipina and Milsana, and my Uncle Umbar. Uncle Umbar was originally from Tevinter I believe. Aunts, Uncle, these are my partners, Neve Gallus of Tevinter and Davrin of the Grey Wardens.”
“Finally!” Milsana sighed happily. “Welcome to the family, Neve and Davrin. We feared our Athos would never find a spouse!”
“And that he has found two strong, capable ones is quite pleasing,” Umbar added.
Neve gave Davrin a bemused look and the Warden simply shrugged. They'd know what they were getting into when they'd said yes to Athos's proposals.
“Well, thanks, for the welcome,” Davrin said at last.”
“It's a pleasure to finally meet the rest of Athos's family,” Neve added with a smirk as she glanced up at the tall qunari. “I'll bet you have all kinds of stories from when Athos was growing up.”
Philipina gave a rattling cackle, “Indeed we do, young Neve. Let us tell you about the time Athos painted half the crypt green.”
Athos sighed. It was going to be an interesting afternoon.Â
Two graduates of Academy of Necropolis, Nona and Lydia, are trying to start a new life in a new place. Will their unique background and customs win over Ronnie, their shy neighbour? Let's find out!

For day 6 - Politics (also on ao3)
For a moment it felt like Rook was back where all of this had started.
He sat stiffly at the table across from a powerful Nevarran Lord and his entourage. He towered over the Lord and his guards, and only years of instruction from the Watch kept Athos's expression a mask of civility. He had no patience for this ridiculousness, but the rest of the Mourn Watch still had to contend with Nevarran nobility, so he sat here with Emmrich sitting on his right and Myrna on his left, staring down a noble who was still fussy about Athos's efforts to save Nevarra from an undead civil war three years ago.Â
“I do not understand why he has been allowed to step foot again on Nevarran soil,” the human noble sneered as he glared up at Athos. “He destroyed my ancestor's remains! Such is a high crime in Nevarra!”
“Is it a high crime when your ancestor's actions were acts of treason, my lord?” Myrna asked cooly. She had never been pleased with the decision to temporarily banish a Child of the Necropolis. “The Baron, as I recall, was attempting to not only overthrow the order of the Watch and the Necropolis but the ruling nobility and King Marcus, was he not?”
“He only wished to bring some sensibility to our government,” the Lord insisted.
“Is that the excuse you are using to excuse treason?” Emmrick asked in a deceptively mild tone. “How strange. You know, I have questioned the decision of exiting a young Watcher whose actions were nothing short of heroic.”
“Heroic?!” The Lord demanded. He waved dismissively at Rook. “This wild upstart? He never should have been allowed back into Nevarra's borders. He is a menace.”
“A menace?” Emmrich demanded. “I will remind you my Lord, that without Rook and the rest of the Veilguard, you would have succumb to the Blight long ago. This young Watcher is a hero, not just of Nevarra, but of all Thedas. He has the favor of even the Black Divine and Archon of Tevinter.”
“We are not Tevinter,” the Lord sniffed.
“Indeed, my Lord, we are not,” Lady Myrna replied. “And I will remind you were it not for the actions of Rook and others like the Archon, you would not be here to even complain. The darkspawn had no reverence for the living or the dead.”
“So you will do nothing?” The Lord demanded.
“Athos Ingellvar has already served his sentence and saved the world. There is nothing to do,” Lady Myrna replied. “If you do not like my decision, perhaps you would like to take it up with Vorgoth?”
Athos watched genuine horror flicker over the man's face. “That will not be necessary. I…thank you for your time Lady Myrna.”
The lord cleared out quickly after that. Only after that did Lady Myrna sigh. “Ah, politics.”
“They are rather annoying,” Emmrich noted. “That young man really should learn. Rook has been the darling of most nobility since we saved the world.”
“Some people are just too foolish and like to throw their weight around,” Myrna agreed.Â
“I could not agree more, Aunt Myrna,” Athos murmured in agreement. Â

For day 5 - Eternal God (on ao3)
Rook had chosen the pieces of eternal gold for his loves carefully. For Neve, the pieces needed to go with the outfits she wore, the persona she put on when meeting clients. She was the more diplomatic of the two owners of Griffons Monsters and Mysteries. For Davrin, the pieces needed to be simple, jewelry that would not catch on things or get in the way when Davrin was fighting or hunting.
The first piece for Neve was an earring he'd had Emmrich enchantment to enhance the reach of Neve's spells. It was made up of a thick gold stud that went through the ear with a diamond shaped piece of gold engraved with the image of a griffon. She would like it, he knew, because she loved imagines of griffons that evoked thoughts of their darling Assan. Secondly he chose a pendant of gold and turquoise, the gold decorated in a geometric pattern around a carefully cut piece of round turquoise. This piece would help Neve regenerate her mana faster, a good thing to have in the middle of a battle.
For Davrin he had two gold hoops, carved in a geometric pattern similar to Neve's necklace. The hoops were small enough that they would not catch on things while the Warden wore them. The enchantment on them would work to increase the damage Davrin wrought against magical barriers and shields. Davrin's second piece was a gold wrist cuff, images of griffons carefully etched it to it to depict a griffon running.
The last pieces were three matching rings. They were twists of white and yellow gold with a simple ruby set into each ring. All three were enchanted to allow the wearers to communicate with each other across distances.
Since the night he, Neve, and Davrin had been reunited during the Siege of Minrathous, they'd rarely slept apart. When business dictated they must spend some days away from each other, Athos knew Neve and Davrin hated it just as much as he did. The effects of the horrific three weeks they'd been parted, while Rook was trapped in the Fade and Neve helf captive by Elgar’nan, lingered even after two years. Nightmares were not uncommon.
The three of them lived together, slept together, and took care of each other. Words of love were spoken often between them. Still, Athos wanted to ask them to formally bond with him. It might not be recognized legally, but they would know it all the same. Whether they had some formal ceremony or made vows to each other only, Athos wanted to be permanently bound with them, for the rest of their lives, however long that might be.
He arranged each piece of golden jewelry carefully on the table in their living area. Once he was satisfied, he sat down to wait for his beloved Warden and Detective to return home.
When Davrin and Neve finally returned home from work with Assan, he saw their curious looks, and then smiles flickering over their faces as they figured out the significance of the gifts.
And if later the three of them lay in bed together, sweaty and satisfied, wearing nothing but their grave gold, no one needed to know but them.
